- "The three of us will always be one."
- —Aqua
Aqua is one of the main protagonists of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and the protagonist of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-. Aqua was a Keyblade wielder years before Sora was. Like Terra and Ventus, it is her dream to become a Keyblade Master, a dream she is the only one of the three to accomplish.
Story[edit]
Before Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit]
Aqua trains as a Keyblade wielder under the Keyblade Master Eraqus at the Land of Departure, alongside Terra.
One day, Xehanort brings Ventus to the Land of Departure. Ventus passes out when questioned about his past, and sleeps for a long time, while Aqua watches over him. After he eventually wakes up, Ventus also becomes a pupil of Eraqus, and Aqua, Terra, and Ventus become close friends.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit]
Four years after Ventus's arrival, on the eve of Aqua and Terra's Mark of Mastery exams, Aqua makes Wayfinders for herself, Terra, and Ventus as good luck charms and a symbol of their bonds.
The next day, Aqua and Terra take the Mark of Mastery exam under the observation of Eraqus and Xehanort. Aqua passes and becomes a Keyblade Master, but Terra fails due to his inability to control his darkness. Eraqus informs Aqua of her new duties as Keyblade Master, and instructs her to take his Keyblade, Master's Defender, and use it to lock the Land of Departure should anything happen to him. Their conversation is interrupted by a message from Yen Sid. Terra joins them, and Eraqus informs Aqua and Terra of the threat of the Unversed, and tasks them with defeating the Unversed in other worlds, as well as finding Xehanort, who has gone missing. After Terra leaves, Eraqus asks Aqua to keep an eye on Terra, and, should he begin to fall to darkness, to bring him back to the Land of Departure. As Aqua prepares to leave, she sees Ventus leaving through the Lanes Between. Eraqus tells Aqua she must bring Ventus home immediately.
As she visits other worlds, Aqua runs into Terra in the Castle of Dreams. He tells her that Cinderella helped him realize a powerful dream can light the darkness, and Aqua is encouraged that Terra won't lose his light. After they part, Aqua senses the dark feelings of Cinderella's stepsisters, and prepares to face them with her Keyblade, but the Fairy Godmother stops her and advises her to assist Cinderella directly rather than fighting the darkness with light.
In Enchanted Dominion, Aqua finds Ventus confronting Maleficent. She tells Ventus to return home with her, but he refuses and runs off. Maleficent claims that Terra stole Aurora's heart. Aqua refutes this, and defeats Maleficent with the help of Prince Phillip, but becomes doubtful of Terra. Aqua returns to the Lanes Between and catches sight of Terra. She pursues him to Radiant Garden, but loses track of him there.
Aqua senses light in a young Kairi, who is being chased by Unversed. Kairi touches the hilt of Aqua's Keyblade in fright, unintentionally performing a Bequeathing. Yen Sid's former apprentice, Mickey Mouse, joins Aqua to defeat the Unversed, but is soon whisked away by his Star Shard. Aqua places a protective charm on Kairi's necklace to lead her to someone else's light if she's in trouble, and suggests meeting Kairi may have been fate.
Aqua reunites with Terra and Ventus in the Central Square, and together they fight the Trinity Armor Unversed. After defeating it, Aqua and Terra try to persuade Ventus to go home. Terra becomes concerned when Ventus mentions a boy in a mask, leading Aqua to question whether Terra is keeping himself from the darkness and revealing to Terra that Eraqus instructed her to watch him. Hurt by this, Terra storms off, and Ventus rebukes Aqua and also leaves to find Terra.
After meeting Merlin, Aqua encounters the boy in a mask, Vanitas, who taunts her about Ventus, before attacking her. Aqua seemingly downs Vanitas, but when she approaches to remove his mask, he laughs and leaves through a Corridor of Darkness. Aqua reunites with Ventus, who reveals Terra has left and asks to go with her. Aqua refuses out of concern for Ventus's safety, and tells him to go home.
Aqua searches other worlds for Terra. Though she doesn't find him, she learns that he has continued to resist darkness and he still greatly values their friendship. While in Neverland, Aqua joins Peter Pan and the Lost Boys on their treasure hunt. They find their treasure chest, which contains objects with precious memories attached, including Ventus's wooden Keyblade. Aqua senses someone nearby and investigates, revealing Vanitas, who has stolen the wooden Keyblade. Vanitas snaps it in half, enraging Aqua and leading to a fight. Aqua defeats Vanitas but is left exhausted, and, believing him to be dead, allows herself to pass out. She soon recovers and leaves Neverland.
Aqua visits the Destiny Islands and meets the young Riku and Sora, who remind her of Terra and Ventus. Aqua considers Bequeathing the Keyblade to one of them, but reconsiders when she senses that Riku has already had it done, concerned that two Keyblades would cause undue strife in their friendship. Aqua tells Sora it's his job to help Riku if he ever goes down a dark path.
Aqua later encounters an unconscious Mickey drifting in the Lanes Between and takes him to Yen Sid at the Mysterious Tower. Yen Sid informs her of Eraqus's death and tells her that Xehanort and Terra are responsible, but Aqua refuses to believe that Terra would do such a thing. Yen Sid tells Aqua that Terra is heading to the Keyblade Graveyard, and Aqua departs to find him.
Aqua reunites with Terra at the Keyblade Graveyard, and he admits he is partially responsible for Eraqus's death. Ventus joins them and reveals Xehanort plans to forge the χ-blade by making Ventus and Vanitas fight, and asks Aqua and Terra to put an end to him. They are interrupted by the arrival of Xehanort and Vanitas, and a battle ensues. Aqua becomes separated from Terra and Ventus, but manages to catch Ventus when Xehanort freezes him and throws him off a cliff. Braig arrives to the fight and challenges Aqua. He stalls her until Vanitas is ready and then leaves. Vanitas jumps down and knocks Aqua out.
When Aqua comes to, Mickey has arrived, and Vanitas has merged with Ventus, forming Ventus-Vanitas. They fight, and Aqua uses the strength of her bonds with Terra and Ventus to power her Keyblade and strikes the χ-blade. Internally, Ventus also fights Vantias, and the χ-blade cracks and goes berserk. The χ-blade self-destructs, releasing a massive blast of energy and sweeping Aqua, Ventus, and Mickey into the Lanes Between and knocking Aqua unconscious.
Mickey brings Aqua and Ventus back to the Mysterious Tower. Aqua wakes, and Yen Sid explains that Ventus has lost his heart and Terra is missing. Aqua takes Ventus back to the Land of Departure, which has been devastated by Xehanort, and finds Master's Defender in the forecourt. Aqua places Ventus's sleeping body in the middle throne in the throne room and transforms the castle into Castle Oblivion, leaving Ventus locked safe inside. As Aqua leaves, a vision of Terra asks her to put an end to him and leads her to Radiant Garden.
Aqua finds the possessed Terra in the Central Square and fights him while Terra resists internally. After Aqua wears him down, Terra-Xehanort turns his Keyblade on himself in an attempt to stop Terra's resistance. The Dark Figure appears and a dark portal to the Realm of Darkness appears beneath Terra-Xehanort, which he falls into. Aqua dives in after him, but is unable to stop both their descents. Aqua uses her Keyblade Armor and Keyblade to send Terra-Xehanort back to the Realm of Light while she is left behind, though she retains Master's Defender.
Now stuck in the Realm of Darkness, Aqua is attacked by several giant Heartless and decides to give up, but is saved by Terra's and Ventus's Keyblades, which reminds her of the people she is connected to and encourages her to keep going.
As Aqua travels through the Realm of Darkness, she sees a large circle of the light above her, which a powerful column of darkness shoots out from. As she follows it, she encounters several types of Heartless. Eventually, Aqua senses something stalking her, which eventually attacks her, revealing itself as a a massive Heartless. Aqua destroys it and continues walking. Eventually, she comes to an overlook and sees the Castle of Dreams in the distance.

During the fall of Radiant Garden, the protective charm Aqua placed on Kairi's necklace guides Kairi to Sora and Riku in the Destiny Islands.
Terra-Xehanort, remembering Aqua as a "friend", takes Aqua's Keyblade Armor and Keyblade and stores them in the Chamber of Repose, where he spends a great deal of time talking to them, including after he becomes the Nobody Xemnas.
Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-[edit]
- "The darkness is winning. It's finding the cracks in my heart."
- —Aqua, after fighting Phantom Aqua
Aqua recognizes the Castle of Dreams in the Realm of Darkness, and realizes that world has fallen to darkness. As she approaches the castle, she notices that time does not pass in the Realm of Darkness, and therefore does not know what is happening in the Realm of Light.
As she travels, Aqua encounters multiple illusions of Terra and Ventus, but they quickly disappear. Aqua finds the Magic Mirror and gets pulled inside, where she fights a phantom version of herself, but she manages to break out and continues on to the Forest of Thorns. There she finds another vision of Terra and Ventus, but this time Terra's heart is able to speak to her. He tries to warn her that Xehanort is looking for Ventus, but Xehanort takes over and attempts to learn Ventus's location. Terra resists and restrains Terra-Xehanort, but Aqua is dragged further into the darkness by dark hands.
Aqua prepares to become one with the darkness, but she is rescued by Mickey. Mickey reveals it has been about ten years since their last meeting and explains his mission to save the Realm of Light from the Heartless. In the remains of the Destiny Islands, Aqua and Mickey realize that Sora and Riku, the boys helping Mickey, are the same boys Aqua met years prior. Aqua and Mickey locate the Kingdom Key D and continue to the Door to Darkness. Aqua and Mickey prepare to help Sora and Riku seal the Door, but a Demon Tide attacks Riku. Aqua stays behind to hold back the Demon Tide, and it thrusts her back to the island shore, separating her from Riku and Mickey. After defeating the Tide, Aqua rests on the shore. The worlds begin to be restored to the Realm of Light, and Aqua falls back into the darkness, having lost Master's Defender along the way.
Kingdom Hearts coded[edit]
Aqua is alluded to by Data-Naminé as one of those connected to Sora's heart that needs his help, appearing as one of Data-Naminé's mental images.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]
When Mickey asks to help Sora and Riku, he mentions that Aqua once told him he can find the way by following his heart's path.
When Sora arrives at The World That Never Was, he is caught by Organization XIII and placed within a nightmare where he sees phantoms of Terra and Aqua. Later, when Xigbar and Xemnas taunt Sora, Sora proclaims that he is proud to be there for his friends, and a vision of the people Sora is connected to, including Aqua, appears.
In order to defeat Xehanort, Yen Sid and Mickey resolve to gather seven Guardians of Light, which necessitates the rescue of Aqua from the Realm of Darkness. Yen Sid assigns Mickey and Riku to this task.
Blank Points[edit]
Aqua wanders into the End of Sea, where she meets Ansem the Wise, who was cast into the Realm when his machine exploded. Ansem reveals to Aqua that the Realm of Light nearly fell to darkness more than once over the course of the last decade, though it was saved by an exceptional Keyblade wielder named Sora. Assured that Sora will rescue her and her friends, Aqua sheds a single tear, while uttering Sora's name with renewed hope.
Kingdom Hearts III[edit]
Shortly after meeting Ansem the Wise, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness arrives on the shores of the End of Sea and demands information from Ansem the Wise. Aqua attempts to defend Ansem the Wise, but she is easily dispatched by the Dark Figure. Concerned for Aqua's safety, Ansem the Wise relents and agrees to leave with Ansem, but the Dark Figure casts Aqua into the dark sea anyway. Aqua succumbs to darkness and transforms into Anti-Aqua.
Later, Riku and Mickey re-enter the Realm of Darkness to find Aqua, but after following her trail to the End of Sea, they find that Aqua is missing and are instead attacked by a Demon Tower that is being controlled by Anti-Aqua. After Mickey is disarmed, Anti-Aqua reveals herself and picks up Mickey's Keyblade. She tells Mickey and Riku that they are too late and rebukes them for abandoning her. Anti-Aqua attacks Riku with the Demon Tower, but is interrupted by the arrival of Sora, who has found Master's Defender in Destiny Islands and used it to create a path to Aqua. Sora then fights Anti-Aqua and defeats her, cleansing her of her darkness and helping her to finally return to the Realm of Light.
Aqua travels to Castle Oblivion, accompanied by Sora, Donald, and Goofy, in order to free Ventus. Using Master's Defender, Aqua unlocks Castle Oblivion's Keyhole, restoring it to the Land of Departure. The group finds the sleeping Ventus in the throne room, and Aqua attempts to wake him, but realizes his heart still hasn't returned to him. Vanitas appears and attempts to take Ventus's heart from within Sora. Aqua attacks Vanitas alone, turning down the others' attempt to help and isolating herself and Vanitas within a barrier. When Aqua gains the upper hand, Vanitas instead targets Ventus and attempts to break the barrier between them. Aqua takes the brunt of Vanitas' attack, and Vanitas prepares to kill her while she's downed. This stirs Ventus's heart within Sora, and with Sora's help, his heart returns to his body. Ventus blocks Vanitas and saves Aqua, and Vanitas retreats.
The group goes to the Mysterious Tower and meets up with Mickey, Riku, and the other Guardians of Light, Kairi and Lea. Aqua remarks that Sora has not changed since they last met, but Sora does not remember their meeting. When Yen Sid acknowledges Lea and Kairi as Keyblade wielders, Aqua immediately recognizes Kairi as the same girl that she cast a protective spell on in Radiant Garden.
With their clash against the Seekers of Darkness imminent, Aqua and Ventus take time to catch up, and promise to share their stories with Terra after they save him.
The following day, Aqua joins the rest of the heroes in the Keyblade Graveyard. Ventus sees Terra in the middle of the wasteland, but Aqua immediately realizes that it is not Terra. Terra's hair goes from brown to white, revealing himself to be Terra-Xehanort. Terra-Xehanort attacks Ventus and Lea, but is destroyed by Donald's Zettaflare. A Demon Tide appears, and Aqua, hallucinating it as made of Anti-Aquas, freezes, and is eliminated by it, along with the other heroes.
Sora is able to use the power of waking to restore his friends' hearts and rewrite reality, returning them to the beginning of their encounter with Terra-Xehanort. This time, when Terra-Xehanort attempts to attack Ventus, Terra's Lingering Will intervenes, and the two fly off while fighting. Aided by the light of the past, Sora is able to take down the Demon Tide, and Yen Sid arrives to hold back the Heartless and allow the Guardians of Light to proceed.
The Guardians of Light are subsequently separated by Xehanort when he raises a labyrinth around them. Aqua and Ventus fight against Terra-Xehanort and Vanitas. With Sora's help, Aqua and Ventus are able to destroy Vanitas and briefly take Terra-Xehanort down, but Terra-Xehanort uses their bonds to bind Aqua, Ventus, and Sora in chains. Terra-Xehanort lifts Aqua and Ventus high into the air and drops them, but Terra takes control of the Dark Figure and catches them. With Sora's help, Xehanort is expelled from Terra's body and Terra's heart returns to it. Aqua, Terra, and Ventus share in a tearful reunion. Sora continues on to fight Xehanort while Aqua and the others rest and recover their strength.
After Xehanort successfully summons the χ-Blade and unlocks Kingdom Hearts, Aqua, Terra, and Ventus regroup with Sora and work to close Kingdom Hearts with the other Guardians while Sora faces Xehanort. Following Xehanort's defeat, Aqua follows her heart to Sora alongside the other Guardians of Light. Terra begins to approach Xehanort, but Aqua stops him. Terra reassures her and continues, releasing Eraqus's spirit from within him. Eraqus convinces Xehanort to relinquish the χ-Blade to Sora. Eraqus reunites with his former pupils and apologizes for everything he'd put them through, then he and Xehanort fade into light together. With the other Guardians' support, Sora uses the χ-Blade to bring them all back to the Realm of Light.
Aqua, Terra, and Ventus create a memorial for Eraqus at the Summit at the Land of Departure, leaving Master's Defender and their Wayfinders there.
Aqua later joins the other Guardians and their friends on the Destiny Islands to play. They watch Sora fade away due to the consequences of rewriting reality.
At some point, Aqua recovers her lost Keyblade Armor and Keyblade from the Chamber of Repose. Sora's friends split up their efforts to find him; Aqua, Terra, and Ventus depart from the Land of Departure to search the Realm of Darkness together.
Other appearances[edit]
The Gathering[edit]
Aqua, in her Keyblade armor, meets with Terra and Ventus at the Keyblade Graveyard and watches as an unknown enigma approaches.
Birth by Sleep[edit]
Disney Emoji Blitz[edit]
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Aqua appears in the 8 o'clock and alternative 7 o'clock Stations in the Dive to the Heart sections of the Hollow Bastion stage, and as an obtainable spirit in Sora's Spirit Board. She is represented by Lucina in her Spirit Battle.
Design[edit]
According to Tetsuya Nomura, Aqua is approximately 18 years old.[1]
Aqua has a slender figure and stands a few inches shorter than Terra. She has blue eyes and choppy, bright blue hair with a left part, which is around chin-length in the front and covers her neck in the back; the hair color appears less washed out in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX compared to her original appearance. She wears a navy-blue-and-black high-collared halter top with an open back, a black corset with a set of white laces on either side, black shorts, and black mid-thigh stockings. Two pink straps intersect over her chest and back, forming an "X", with a a silver Terra's Mark symbol at the front intersection. A long piece of blue cloth is draped over each of her hips to past her knees, over which a thinner strip of white fabric is wrapped around her waist, draped in a loose bow on either side, and tied into two long ribbons in the back. She has white detached bell-sleeves partially covered by three segmented pieces of silver and dull purple armor attached to a yellow circle, and grey fingerless gloves. Her silver boots are pointed and armored, with a sharp hook on the outer side at the top of each.
Aqua can don her Keyblade Armor by touching the yellow circle on her sleeve armor. The main body of her armor is primarily dull purple, with a black waist and upper thighs, and decorative cream outlines. She has a metallic blue segmented chestplate that connects to a raised piece at her stomach, with sharp silver "wings" at the top that curl downwards. She has blue gauntlets that flare out to a sharp point and curvy silver pieces on her biceps, both which have an angular black stone set in the middle. She wears the same fingerless grey gloves from her main outfit but her fingers are now covered by purple armor. Silver and blue pieces cover her knees. Her helmet is mainly blue, with a purple front area, black visor, and a silver chin guard. She has two silver prongs on either side of her helmet which start around the front of her visor and angle diagonally downwards, vaguely resembling bat wings.
In the secret ending Birth by Sleep, the armor has a grey cape. This was absent from the game due to technical limitations, but returned in Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind.
During the development for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Aqua's outfit had a more exposed back, but this was altered as it was considered too revealing.[2] Additionally, at one point her eyes were brighter and her hair was darker and less saturated.
Like Ventus's and Terra's names are related to Sora's and Riku's, respectively, Aqua's name is related to Kairi's; "aqua" is Latin for "water", while Kairi's name is derived from the Japanese word for "sea". The official Japanese website refers to Aqua as the "Dancing Waters Forming Bonds" (絆繋ぐ舞水 Kizuna Tsunagu Busui).
Personality[edit]
Aqua bears some similarities to Kairi and Sora, primarily in her sisterly affection for her closest friends, especially towards the younger Ventus. This is displayed by when she makes lucky charms for them, does everything in her power to protect Ventus, her confidence that Terra will overcome the darkness, and when she strands herself in the Realm of Darkness in order to save him, an act which could potentially doom herself forever, showing she is incredibly selfless. Aqua is shown to be very sociable with children, quickly befriending Kairi, Sora, and Riku.
Aqua is remarkably calm and dead-set on her goals, and only threats on her loved ones seem to make her lose her composure. Although, like Sora, Aqua is comically insecure in a romantic sense, so when Zack asks her out on a date, she becomes completely flustered and desperately tries to compose herself. She also quickly changes the subject when Hercules asks why her face is red.
Aqua is typically modest, only calling herself "Master Aqua" before she fights Terra-Xehanort, and acting very respectful toward elders and authorities, such as Master Eraqus, Queen Minnie and the Grand Councilwoman.
Like Eraqus, Aqua is also strict, stubborn and overprotective, which sometimes makes her seem condescending. She always worries about Ventus because of his age and lack of experience, ordering him to go home whenever she finds him without giving him a chance to prove himself.
Despite her flaws, when the situation demands it, Aqua's overall skill, determination, intelligence and kindness make her the most reliable and competent out of Eraqus's apprentices.
When briefly overtaken by darkness, however, Aqua loses any sense of her usual altruism, becoming angry, bitter, and cruel. She is particularly resentful of Mickey, whom she accuses of abandoning her in the Realm of Darkness for over a decade, saying that the fear and loneliness she suffered has left her feeling nothing but misery and despair. Nevertheless, once Sora restores her heart to the light, Aqua returns to her noble, loving, and forgiving self.
Aqua's time in the Dark World has left some psychological scarring, and she immediately gave up upon seeing the enormous storm of Heartless and even hallucinated seeing them as Anti-Aquas, not even resisting when the Demon Tide sucked her up.
Abilities[edit]
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit]
Aqua is described by Tetsuya Nomura as being "tricky".[3] In terms of physical ability, she is the most balanced out of the three main protagonists of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, with decent strength, speed, agility, and range. She is neither the slowest nor the fastest of the trio, but her thin frame makes her a difficult target. Unlike Terra and Ventus, she blocks using Barrier, effectively giving Aqua a 360° defensive zone.
Aqua has very few exclusive attack commands, consisting of Barrier Surge, Wishing Edge, and her most powerful attack command, Magic Hour. Her personal finish commands include the Magic Pulse series, Heat Slash 2, Ice Burst, and her ultimate finisher, Teleport Spike.
While she's more than capable physically, her prowess lies with a more magic-oriented fighting style, being versed in all forms of it. Aqua displays superior skill to both Terra and Ventus, as well as later Keyblade users, such as Sora and Riku. Aqua has a wide variety of Magic Commands. She has her own special variations of the Fire, Ice, and Thunder spells. Fire spells include Triple Firaga, Firaga Burst, and Raging Storm. Ice spells include Triple Blizzaga, Glacier, and Ice Barrage. A Thunder spell she can use is Thundaga Shot. She can also use Seeker Mine, and has a few unique magnet spells like Energy Magnet, Munny Magnet, and D-Link Magnet. She is also able to use Teleport in both offensive and defensive ways, being able to effortlessly dodge attacks or to land devastating surprise attacks on her enemy. She is also able to craft several copies of herself and use them either as a distraction or as a powerful offensive tool. Finally, she can conjure spheres of light using the Reflect element or Magical orbs with elemental characteristics with Magic Pulse.
Beside a variety of these abilities usable by all three or two of the protagonists in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Aqua has access to two unique Command Styles and three exclusive Shotlocks. Her first exclusive Command Style is Spellweaver, which hovers her Keyblade in midair, swiftly attacking enemies while enhancing her magic capabilities as well. Her second style is Ghost Drive, a second level style which allows her to warp around enemies, attacking them at high speeds while using after-image illusions and tricky movements to her advantage.
Her exclusive Shotlocks are Bubble Blaster, Prism Rain, and Lightbloom.
Aqua has access to the evasion technique, Cartwheel, as well an offensive variant, Firewheel. She can also use Doubleflight, allowing her to jump once and jump again in midair. Lastly, she can use Teleport, allowing her to warp behind an enemy, dodging its attack.
Aqua briefly assists Terra and Ventus on two occasions.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]
Playable character[edit]
Aqua is briefly playable during the trip to the Land of Departure in the fight against Vanitas. Aqua's stats closely correspond to Sora's stats at Level 65, and are equal to Riku's. She has access to Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga and Curaga for magic, and a single Hi-Potion and Ether. Aqua's Shotlock is Prism Rain, which functions much the same as it did in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, having a maximum lock of 28 and allowing for extra bursts with well-timed button presses. By filling the Situation Gauge she will be able to use her powerful Spellweaver Formchange, granting her stronger combos and a powerful finishing attack much like in previous games.
In Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind she is playable in the Keyblade Graveyard fight against Vanitas and Terra-Xehanort, where she can now team up with Ventus to perform the Icy Slider Team Attack.

Party member[edit]
As a party member in the fight against Vanitas and Terra-Xehanort, Aqua has most of the same techniques as she does when controlled as the player character. She has strong basic attacks, Blizzaga and Thundaga as her magic attacks, and Curaga to support her party members with.
Aqua's base stats as a party member are 225 HP, 100 MP, 44 Strength, 45 Magic, and 42 Defense.

Weapons[edit]
Aqua's exclusive Keychains generally share a water-theme and are primarily focused on magical strength; in fact, her Brightcrest is one of the most magically-powerful Keychains in the game. Her Keyblade is of medium length, between those of Ventus and Terra. Aqua starts off with her personal "Rainfell", but after visiting Destiny Islands, she obtains a more powerful version of it named "Stormfall". However, after falling into the Realm of Darkness, she sacrifices her Keyblade and Keyblade Armor to save Terra, and is forced to use "Master's Defender", her former Master's Keyblade, which she had retrieved earlier. After the final defeat of Master Xehanort, Aqua wields her Rainfell once again, using it to open a portal to the Realm of Darkness. Small petals appear when she summons her Keyblade.

- ^ Dengeki DS & Wii, Vol. 3, Nomura: "Aqua is special. As for the type, she is magic based, though it is considerably tricky. Fight while rotating like a spinning object, doing cartwheels, that sort of thing." Translation via KHInsider
