Kingdom Hearts III
Frozen (2013)

A young man we saw taking Elsa away from the ice palace. Darkness seemed to have a hold on him.

Hans is a character of Arendelle introduced in Kingdom Hearts III. He originates from the Disney film Frozen.

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

When Sora, Donald, and Goofy prepare to return to Elsa's Ice palace to speak with her, they notice Hans carrying an unconscious Elsa from the distance and wonder who he is. Goofy assumes he was someone from Arendelle who came to help her, but Sora and Donald think otherwise with the latter noticing an aura of darkness surrounding his body.

When Sora reunites with Kristoff he tells Sora that he had to return Anna back home to Arendelle, to be with Hans.

Hans attempts to slay Elsa.

As the trio and Marshmallow return back to Arendelle, Anna notices Hans ready to kill Elsa and jumps in front of his sword, completely freezing solid just before Hans' blade strikes her and shatters the sword. Anna's freezing causes a shockwave, knocking Hans away and rendering him unconscious. When Sora, Donald and Goofy arrive, they see Hans fully succumbing to darkness and he transports the trio and Marshmallow to a shadowy realm, in which a Heartless named Sköll manifests from him.

After their battle against Sköll, Sora and his friends wake up back on the lake near Anna and Elsa, with Hans nowhere to be found.

Design[edit]

Hans is a man with auburn brown hair, sideburns, and green eyes. He wears a gray winter outfit with white gloves and boots.

Personality[edit]

Although much of his motives are unexplained, Hans is shown to be murderous, willing to kill Elsa. He is also heavily affected by darkness in his heart.

Origin[edit]

"A true love's kiss. Oh, Anna… If only there was someone out there who loved you."
—Hans

Prince Hans Westergaard of the Southern Isles first appeared as the main antagonist of the 2013 Disney animated film, Frozen, voiced by Santino Fontana. He is the youngest of thirteen brothers, three of whom pretended he was invisible for two years. As the youngest in line for his own kingdom, Hans has harbored a desire to claim the throne of another kingdom for himself.

At the start of the film, Hans arrives at Arendelle on the day of Elsa's coronation to claim the throne. He initially intends to marry Elsa, but he soon sets his sights on her younger sister Anna, who falls in love with him and agrees to marry him immediately due to her sheltered life and naïveté. However, as Anna had just met him, Elsa vetoes the marriage, and after an argument accidentally freezes all of Arendelle. Anna places Hans in charge while she sets off to find Elsa. Hans soon proves to be a benevolent ruler, but when he learns that Anna has gone missing, he ventures into the winter and captures and imprisons Elsa, seemingly to end the eternal winter. Anna suddenly returns, slowly freezing to death due to Elsa's powers, but Hans reveals his true colors, explaining his intent to kill Elsa and conquer Arendelle as his own. Elsa escapes her prison, and Hans tracks her down and claims that she was indirectly responsible for Anna's death. As Elsa collapses in despair, Hans prepares the killing blow, but Anna leaps in front of his sword and freezes, sending him reeling and knocking him unconscious. After Elsa restores Arendelle to normal, Hans regains consciousness and is confronted by a restored Anna who punches him into the fjord. He is soon arrested and imprisoned to face punishment from his older brothers.
