"You kind of set off an eternal winter... everywhere. Well, it's okay. You can just unfreeze it. Sure you can. I know you can!"
—Anna to Elsa

Anna is the princess of Arendelle in Kingdom Hearts III. She is the sister of Elsa, both of whom are two of the New Seven Hearts. After Elsa runs off in fear after accidentally revealing her powers, Anna decides to find her with the help of a young man named Kristoff and a talking snowman called Olaf. She originated in the Disney film Frozen.

Story[edit]

Before Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

When Anna was a child, she used to be close to her older sister Elsa, but one day, Elsa shut her out for an unknown reason.

As the years passed, Anna and Elsa barely saw each other until the day of Elsa's coronation. Feeling excited, Anna thought she would finally get a chance to speak with her sister again. She met and fell in love with Hans that day. Unfortunately, at the party, Anna got into an argument with her sister, resulting in Elsa accidentally unleashing her magic to push her away. Feeling guilty for what happened, Anna sets out to find her sister to bring her back home and bring an end to the winter.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Anna talks to Sora about her distant relationship with her sister.

When Sora, Donald, and Goofy begin looking for Elsa, they encounter Anna, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf. After introducing themselves, Anna reveals that she is heading to see her sister to end the winter curse, much to the trio's surprise. Sora asks what is happening and tells them that Elsa might be in trouble. Having just met Sora and him being someone she can trust, Anna recounts the full story to him. After Sora relates Anna's plight to his own past, he helps Anna and Kristoff in finding Olaf's parts as they had been scattered again. After reassembling Olaf, Heartless show up, prompting Sora, Donald, and Goofy to face them while Anna and the others proceed to find Elsa.

Later, while visiting her ice palace, Anna is accidentally cursed by Elsa's power and ends up being chased out by Marshmallow. An ill Anna later returns to Arendelle. A mysterious storm suddenly strikes Arendelle.

Eventually, Hans tries to murder Elsa in front of a half-frozen Anna, but Anna blocks his attack and transforms into an ice statue. Elsa weeps, thinking her sister is dead, but it turns out that this was an act of true love, causing the ice in Anna's heart to thaw. Larxene realizes, to her surprise, that Anna and Elsa are both part of the New Seven Hearts: a new generation of Princesses of Heart. Elsa, through Anna's selfless act of love, realizes that the power of love has the power to thaw, and as a result, her feelings of love end the eternal winter and saves Arendelle.

Sometime after Xehanort's defeat, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf go sledding. Elsa watches them launch off a mountain and uses her powers to create a ramp.

Other appearances[edit]

Kingdom Hearts Union χ[edit]

Anna's power is channeled by the Book of Prophecies to form the Prime - Anna and Anna & Elsa Medals.

Design[edit]

Anna is a young, fair-skinned woman with blue eyes, freckles, and auburn hair braided into two pigtails. She has a few streaks of platinum blonde hair. She wears a black-and-blue dress, a magenta cape, a magenta hat, blue mittens, and black boots.

Personality[edit]

"Hey! It is not nice to THROW PEOPLE!"
—Anna before throwing a snowball at Marshmallow

Anna is more naive compared to her older sister Elsa. Anna is shown to be recklessly brave, such as when she throws a snowball at Marshmallow, which infuriates him and endangers her life and Kristoff's.

Anna is still very kind, energetic and optimistic. She loves her sister so much that she goes on a quest to rescue her. Like her sister, Anna likes to express herself through songs.

Origin[edit]

Anna first appeared as the protagonist of the 2013 Disney animated film, Frozen, voiced by Kristen Bell. She is loosely inspired by Gerda, the main protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen.

In Frozen, Elsa and Anna were orphaned at a young age when King Agnarr and Queen Iduna died in a seastorm. Anna did not spend much time with Elsa in their childhood due to Elsa fearing her ice powers harming Anna. Years later, on the day of Elsa's coronation as queen, Anna desires to find true love at the party, and she seems to find it in a neighboring prince named Hans. The two intend to get married, which baffles Elsa who thinks Anna should not get married to a man she has only known for one night. Elsa flees Arendelle in fear after accidentally revealing her powers and putting Arendelle in an increasingly dangerous snowstorm. Anna takes it upon herself to locate her sister and find a way to save Arendelle.
