Davy Jones is a character in Kingdom Hearts III. He originated from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Story

Before Kingdom Hearts II

Jack Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones, who raised the Black Pearl from the depths of the sea and let Jack be the captain of it for thirteen years. In exchange, Jack promised Jones his soul.

Kingdom Hearts III

After a series of events, Davy Jones ends up fighting the party.

Jones mortally wounds Will Turner. Will, with the help of everyone else, was able to stab Davy Jones' heart, killing Davy. This revived Will from death, although the price was for Will to become the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Personality

Davy Jones openly admits he is a heartless wretch. He calls love a dreadful bond which is easily severed.

Appearance

Davy Jones is a man who is cursed to look like an octopus. He has multiple octopus-like legs on the bottom of his face which vaguely look like a long beard. He also wears a big dark pirate hat.

Origin

Davy Jones first appeared as an antagonist in the 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, portrayed by Bill Nighy. In the film, it is revealed that Jack Sparrow owes him a debt of 100 years of servitude in return for Jones raising the Black Pearl from the seabed, which Jack is trying to get out of by obtaining Jones's heart, which if stabbed will result in Jones' death. Despite Jones' efforts to reclaim his heart, it is stolen by ex-Commodore James Norrington, who gives it to Lord Cutler Beckett, the head of the East India Trading Company, who seeks to exterminate piracy and uses his possession of Jones' heart to blackmail him into carrying out his agenda in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

In At World's End, it is revealed that Jones is the former lover of Tia Dalma, originally the sea goddess Calypso who entrusted him with ferrying the souls of those who died at sea to the afterlife and can only step on land once every ten years. He was to meet Calypso when he could, but she was no where to be found. Fueled by anger and heartbreak, he neglected his duties, resulting in his appearance becoming monstrous. In an act of revenge, he told the Pirate Brethren Court how to bind Calypso, trapping her in a mortal form. In the film's climax, the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman engage in a vicious battle in a maelstrom created by Calypso. During the battle, Jones manages to obtain his heart and duels Sparrow, William Turner and Elizabeth Swann. He stabs Will, killing him, but Jack uses Will's hand to stab Jones' heart in retaliation. Jones dies and falls into the abyss.

In the fifth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jones is resurrected following the destruction of the Trident of Poseidon.

Due to censorship issues, Davy Jones' heart is not physically shown at any point, nor are the scenes where Jones and Will stab each other.
