Randall was previously one of the top scarers from Monsters, Inc., with [[Boo]] as one of his targets, who tried to collect screams by force. He was punished by being banished through a door to a human trailer home that was immediately destroyed, and barely escaped being killed by its inhabitants, who mistake him for an alligator.

Fortunately for him, [[Vanitas]] found him and decided to exploit his ambition and desire for revenge. Vanitas fixed Randall's door, allowing him to return to Monsters, Inc. and attempt to reclaim his prior prestige. However, believing that laugh power is unsustainable, he still insisted on exploiting negative emotional energy and allied with Vanitas's [[Unversed]] to acquire it. With their help, he infiltrated the factory and weaponized its machinery.
Eventually, Randall is found by Vanitas, who exploits the monster's desire for revenge against Sulley. Randall's door is repaired, and the disgraced scarer returns to Monstropolis. Randall learns the city has come to rely on the power of laughter, but he sees this as unsustainable and begins to seek out negative emotions with help from the [[Unversed]].

Randall invisibly observes [[Sora]] and his friends as they discover the Unversed infestation and head to the [[Door Vault]], and decides to follow them. He uses his camouflage ability to disguise a door to the [[Basement]] as Boo's door, diverting the heroes into the booby-trapped portion of the factory. He gloats to them about his return and impending success, then vanishes as he waves away Sora's defiance.
Randall's mission puts him in conflict once again with Sulley and [[Mike Wazowski]]. Randall and the Unversed infiltrate Monsters, Inc., but they are ultimately stopped by [[Sora]], [[Donald Duck]], and [[Goofy]]. With little protest, Randall goes back into the human world. While he swears to return, the disgraced monster is permanently sealed away by Sora's [[Keyblade]].

Randall accosts the group as they are leaving the factory floor and attempts to sic one of his machines on them. However, he storms off when it is unresponsive to his commands, only to spot Vanitas animating it as the [[Lump of Horror]] just after the heroes leave.

Pleased, he takes the Unversed with him to confront the heroes just as they reach the Door Vault. Delighted by Mike's ignorant dismissal of the threat, Randall gloats as the group is attacked by the massive Unversed. However, his happiness is short-lived and he is infuriated when the Unversed is destroyed. As he angrily kicks the destroyed machine, Sulley roars at him. Defeated, he barely protests as Mike and Sulley force him to go back through his repaired door and is clubbed once again by the humans on the other side. Before Sulley can destroy the door, Sora uses his Keyblade to lock the door, preventing Randall from returning.
