Midgar is a world set to appear in Kingdom Hearts III. It is the first world based on a game from the Final Fantasy series.

During development of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Nomura decided to add a world based on Final Fantasy VII to Kingdom Hearts III.[1] Development of the world is almost complete.[2]

In this world, Sora can transform his Keyblade into Cloud's Fenrir motorcycle.[3]

The story is not set during the original game, but features an original storyline, following Cloud and Sephiroth's disappearance in Kingdom Hearts II. However, Nomura hinted at Aerith dying, like in the original game.[4]

Settings and Areas

The areas of Midgar are directly taken from the Final Fantasy VII Remake.[1]

Notes and references

  1. ^ a b Famitsu interview with Tetsuya Nomura, Nomura: "When working on the remake of FF7, I suddenly noticed we were working in the same engine, so we just ported the areas of Midgar to KH3. Saved us quite a lot of time, so we had an extra ice cream break."
  2. ^ Famitsu interview with Tetsuya Nomura, Nomura: "We're almost done with the Midgar world, but we haven't showed it in a trailer yet, cause those don't actually show the most recent version. They're all showing outdated or removed concepts and features. People are always saying how awesome things look, and then I'm like "good luck finding that in the finished game." *laughs*"
  3. ^ Famitsu interview with Tetsuya Nomura, Nomura: "For the Keyblade transformation, we went with Cloud's motorcycle from Advent Children, because it's just f***ing badass."
  4. ^ a b Famitsu interview with Tetsuya Nomura, Interviewer: "Is the story completely new, or have you taken some things from the original game?" / Nomura: Yes, we do have some similarities. I don't want to spoil too much, but someone will get stabbed, and her name begins with 'Ae' and ends with 'ris'. Or 'rith'. Whatever."
