Kingdom Hearts III
Big Hero 6 (2014)

A member of Big Hero 6. He was originally a healthcare robot developed by Hiro's older brother, Tadashi, but with the addition of combat data and an armored suit, Hiro upgraded him to "Baymax 2.0."
"Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion."
—Baymax introduces himself to Sora and his friends.

Baymax is a character from San Fransokyo in Kingdom Hearts III. He originated in the Disney film Big Hero 6, which itself is based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name.

He is a member of Big Hero 6, alongside Hiro Hamada, Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred.

Story[edit]

Before Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Baymax was originally created by Tadashi Hamada to serve as a healthcare drone. Upon Tadashi's death, Hiro took ownership of Baymax, programming a chip that bestowed Baymax various martial arts skills and constructing battle armor to allow Baymax to use them effectively in an effort to stop a villain using Microbots that Hiro had created. This eventually lead to Hiro and Baymax travelling another dimension, where Baymax's armor was damaged, forcing him to use his rocket fist to propel Hiro to safety along with the healthcare chip Tadashi had programmed. Upon discovering the healthcare chip, Hiro created a new body for Baymax, along with a new combat chip.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

"Sora, I will be your personal health care companion."
—Baymax, following Hiro's request to assist Sora, Donald and Goofy

The members of Big Hero 6 begin fighting the Heartless when they appear in San Fransokyo. During a fight on the Golden Gate Bridge, Go Go is knocked unconscious by a mild concussion; Hiro and Baymax's effort to help her leads them to meet Sora, Donald, and Goofy, with Sora showing admiration for Baymax's robotic nature. The three off-worlders repel the Heartless invasion, with Baymax fighting alongside them.

Hiro later introduces Big Hero 6 to Sora, Donald and Goofy in Hiro's garage. From this point on, Baymax serves as a party member to Sora, Donald and Goofy while they are in San Fransokyo, accompanying them at Hiro's instruction while Hiro himself serves as mission control. After the first fight with the Darkubes reveals that Dark Riku has acquired Baymax's original combat chip, Hiro tells Sora, Donald, and Goofy about the original Baymax, theorizing that Dark Riku has brought the original back to San Fransokyo.

During the final confrontation with the Heartless, Dark Riku reveals Hiro's theory to be sound, bringing back the original Baymax and constructing a new set of combat armor made from Darkubes. Sora and the new Baymax fight Dark Baymax, eventually dealing enough damage to force Dark Baymax into stasis; Hiro then takes the original combat chip and crushes it. Hiro then programs a new healthcare chip, installing it in the original Baymax with the new Baymax onlooking. Sora requests to take one Baymax with him, but Hiro refuses.

Both Baymaxes continue to serve alongside Big Hero 6 after Sora, Donald, and Goofy depart San Fransokyo. Sometime after Xehanort's defeat, Hiro and Baymax manage to stop a car from falling off the edge, but were unable to rescue the other car until the other Baymax rescued it. After the team saved the civilians, both Baymaxes strike a pose to the cheering crowd.

Design[edit]

Baymax is a white robot with a rotund physique and two black, beady eyes connected by a black line. When fighting alongside Big Hero 6, he wears red armor with purple highlights.

Personality[edit]

Baymax is a robot that is programmed with a quirky and stoic personality, especially during battles. He comes off as a compassionate and caring robot that would protect and heal his friends when necessary. Since he is a robot that was made to secure the healthcare of his owner, he can be quite protective. He is friendly towards Sora and even fist-bumped him, to which the latter nervously copied his odd technique. Baymax is protective and caring of Hiro and even to the extend of his friends and will not hesitate to fight them off should it be deemed necessary.

Baymax tends to calculate the odds of success for Big Hero 6. However, the number tends to extend by various ".0" in percentages most of the time, due to the unlikeliness of succeeding. When he attempts to recite the exact number, Baymax is often asked by Hiro to cease doing so as its would take too long.

Abilities[edit]

Baymax is a power-fighter and uses his wings and fists to deal damage. He has a set of skills that focus on offense and healing. However, Baymax can be slightly slow and delayed on his actions since he is unused to fighting. His Care Spray ability allows him to use a spray to heal himself or an ally low on health at the cost of all his MP similar to the Cure spell. Baymax's hammerfist deals quite a lot of damage to a single Heartless and his basic attacks packs a punch.

In battle, Baymax can call on the Interceptor Wing Team Attack, allowing Sora to hop on his back to fly around, shooting at enemies or striking them with a barrage of punches. The Finish command has Baymax rush the enemy four times.

Baymax also serves as an encyclopedia of medical knowledge, as per his original specifications. He is able to analyze a person's health status and ailments with a scan. Without his armor, Baymax is capable of generating a comfortable level of heat from his core to warm people.

Baymax's base stats are 30 AP, 280 HP, and 100 MP. He has 3 armor slots, 2 accessory slots, and 3 item slots, one of which starts equipped with an Ether.

Origin[edit]

"Are you satisfied with your care?"

Baymax first appeared in the 2014 Disney animated film Big Hero 6, voiced by Scott Adsit. He is inspired by the character of the same name from Marvel Comics.

In Big Hero 6, Baymax was created by the older brother of Hiro Hamada, Tadashi, to be the ultimate healthcare companion robot. When Tadashi dies in a mysterious fire, Hiro takes over Baymax and reprograms Baymax to be a fighting robot who can fly, in order to catch Tadashi's possible killer. The events of the movie are alluded to by Hiro in Kingdom Hearts III.
