However, the aftermath of the battle was rather unfavorable—the Coliseum was destroyed and Hercules lost his hero's glow, making him later fall prey to the plans of Hades.

The Hydra is a massive, reptilian creature with dark purple skin. Its body is rather bulky and it crawls using two four-fingered hands with white claws. It has a long, thin tail and each time one of its heads are cut off, two more grow to replace it. Its number of heads can apparently grow exponentially in Hercules, though in Kingdom Hearts II its maximum is seven. All of the Hydra’s head are identical to each other, each sporting the same long, serpentine neck, large mouth filled with white fangs, orange eyes with slit pupils, and spikes lining the top of their heads down the length of their necks.

Defeat the Hydra! Fight alongside various friends!
When fighting the Hydra, in addition to having Donald and Goofy in the party, Sora will have Phil, Megara, and Pegasus for support. Phil tosses urns that can stun the Hydra, Meg gives Sora much-needed HP, MP, and Drive orbs when he gets close to her, and Pegasus allows Sora to use the Pegasus Run reaction command.
In this battle, Sora has the most character support of any battle. Donald and Goofy in the party, Phil tossing urns to stun the Hydra, Meg giving Sora HP, MP and Drive orbs and Pegasus allowing Sora to use the Pegasus Run reaction command.

The battle begins as Sora attacks the main head. Then a Reaction Command called "Vanquish" appears—doing so allows Sora to remove its head. It puts its head in the sand and three heads sprout from the surrounding area. With Phil's help, Sora can immobilize the heads with a Reaction Command called "Phil One-Two" and then follow it up with "Urninator". Sora must then defeat and "Vanquish" the heads before they awake.
Sora must first attack the Hydra's main head. When the Hydra's HP is depleted to a certain point, he must use the Vanquish reaction command to remove the head, ending the first phase. After this is done, the Hydra buries its head in the sand, causing three more heads to sprout out from underground in various locations, starting the second phase. By teaming up with Phil, Sora can use the Phil One-Two and Urninator reaction commands to immobilize them. Sora must defeat each of these heads and use Vanquish on them before they awaken.

The Hydra then pulls its neck out of the ground and shows that it has seven heads. While fighting the seven heads, Sora can use Pegasus to fly up to the heads to strike them with a Reaction Command "Pegasus Run". Once it is out of HP, Sora can use the "Vanquish" command again. If Sora's runs low HP, MP, or Drive, Megara is found at the outside the arena itself, hiding on the very left or right side of the arena. Sora simply needs to get close to her and she will throw the orbs. Hydra is capable of summoning dark orbs, using lightning, and using blue fire similar to Hades. If Sora is defeated, the option to play as King Mickey may appear. Sora receives the ability Thunder and the Hero's Crest.
In the third and final phase of this battle, the Hydra pulls its neck out of the ground and reveals a set of seven heads. Sora can team up with Pegasus and use the Pegasus Run reaction command to strike each head. Once the Hydra's HP has been depleted to 1, Sora need only use the Vanquish reaction command a final time to finish the monster off.

! Hydra – Kingdom Hearts II
The Hydra originally appeared in the 1997 film Hercules. Hades had sent his two minions, Pain and Panic, to disguise themselves as little boys and pretend that they were trapped under a boulder, so Hercules would help them by removing the boulder, but in truth the Hydra was also hiding behind that boulder. So, after some struggle, Hercules was swallowed by the one-headed Hydra, but he managed to escape by cutting its head off from the inside. However, the Hydra grew back three heads and continued to attack Hercules. Hercules kept on trying to cut off the Hydra's heads, but soon realized that the more heads he cut off, the more grew right back, until the Hydra had dozens of heads. This forced Hercules to cause a avalanche of rocks to crush him (though he survived) and the beast, slaying the Hydra.

In the Greek myths, Hercules was sent to kill the Lernaean Hydra as one of his Twelve Labours. This Hydra started out with nine heads instead of one and could breath poisonous gas. Hercules, like in the movie, tried to slay it by cutting off its heads, but, also like in the movie, this proved ineffective as it kept on growing back heads. Eventually, Hercules figured out that he couldn't just keep on chopping off the Hydra's heads. He got a fire brand from his charioteer and seared every one of the Hydra's necks after cutting off one head so they could not grow back. Eventually, Hercules had cut off each head and seared their necks and had defeated the Hydra.

The Hydra is a multi-headed serpentine monster that appears in Kingdom Hearts II. It is fought at Olympus Coliseum and originally appeared in Disney's 1997 animated film, Hercules.

Story

Kingdom Hearts II

Hades sends the Hydra to destroy Olympus Coliseum and kill Hercules. The hero battles and seems to defeat it, but the Hydra merely fakes its death and proceeds to destroy the Coliseum while Hercules is away. The Hydra meets its match when Sora, Donald, Goofy, Phil, Pegasus, and Megara team up to eliminate it once and for all.

Design

The Hydra is a massive, reptilian creature with dark purple skin. It has a bulky body, and it crawls using a pair of four-fingered hands with white claws. The Hydra's tail is long and thin, and each time one of its heads is cut off, two more grow back as a replacement. All of the Hydra's heads are identical; they sport long, serpentine necks, large mouths filled with white fangs, and orange eyes with slitted pupils. Spikes line each of the Hydra's heads and necks. In the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts II, the Hydra spews green blood when one of its heads is cut off. In other versions of the game, the blood is changed to purple smoke except in one cutscene.

Strategy

When fighting the Hydra, in addition to having Donald and Goofy in the party, Sora will have Phil, Megara, and Pegasus for support. Phil tosses urns that can stun the Hydra, Meg gives Sora much-needed HP, MP, and Drive orbs when he gets close to her, and Pegasus allows Sora to use the Pegasus Run reaction command.

By teaming up with Phil, Sora can use the Phil One-Two and Urninator reaction commands to immobilize them. Sora must defeat each of these heads and use Vanquish on them before they awaken.

In the third and final phase of this battle, the Hydra pulls its neck out of the ground and reveals a set of seven heads. Once the Hydra's HP has been depleted to 1, Sora need only use the Vanquish reaction command a final time to finish the monster off.

If the Hydra manages to defeat Sora, the option to revive him using King Mickey may become available. Victory grants Sora access to the Thunder spell, as well as the Hero's Crest Keyblade.
