Data-Sora is the main protagonist of Kingdom Hearts coded and its remake, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. He is a digital replica of Sora that King Mickey used to investigate a computer simulation of Jiminy's Journal, and though he behaves much like the real Sora, he is thought to not be an actual person.

In order to investigate a strange message in Jiminy's Journal, King Mickey digitized the journal and started an analysis of the simulation, which was visualized as a digital version of Sora reenacting the events of the first Kingdom Hearts. The mystery hidden within the journal manifested as differences between the original events and the simulation.
In Kingdom Hearts coded, a Sora made of data is created by King Mickey to go on a mission: solve a mysterious message written in Jiminy's Journal saying "We must return to free them from their torment" ("Their hurting will be mended, when you return to end it" in Re:coded). Because the journal is corrupted by a bunch of computer bugs in the form of data blocks, this Sora is created to destroy them.

The actual Sora does not appear until the very end, and the Sora in this game is a computer Artificial intelligence created from data from Jiminy's early journal entries. After waking up in Dive to the Heart and obtaining a data Keyblade, he travels to each data world to fix all the Bug Blox Corruption there.

The Data-Sora meets King Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy Cricket in Disney Castle. After Sora appears in the castle, a man in Organization XIII's black coat appears and reveals himself to be Jiminy's Journal incarnated in Riku's form. After the Journal explains the situation to them, Sora sets off to fix the data worlds. He also asks the Journal if they are just artificial data. However, the Journal said it doesn't matter as long as they will help their friends, which puts Sora's heart at ease. After he heals Olympus Coliseum's Bug Blox Corruption, he meets the real-world Pete.

After he heals Agrabah's Bug Blox Corruption, the Data-Sora finally catches up to Pete and is attacked by the real-world Maleficent, who destroys his data Keyblade. Mickey and Jiminy's Journal arrive and dispatch the Heartless, but the journal is abducted by Pete and Maleficent. Mickey gives pursuit, and Sora, unable to defend himself without the Keyblade, makes his way through the data Hollow Bastion, reuniting with Donald and Goofy along the way. As they progressed through the castle, the Data-Sora begins to feel the real Sora's heart and recalled his memories. They engage Pete in a battle.

Pete taunts Data-Sora for merely being made of data, like his Keyblade, and doesn't have a heart, which frustrates Data-Sora. Donald and Goofy defend that he's as real as the real Sora and has a heart, and that their hearts are connected. This grants Data-Sora the use of a real Keyblade, which King Mickey explains is tightly connected to the power of his heart and that he has surpassed even the system. Data-Sora then fights and defeats Pete, but Pete calls out the journal, placed under his control through the use of Bug Blox. Sora fights the Journal three times, each with an increase in the Journal's strength, but manages to defeat him. A Keyhole is opened, and Mickey says that unless the Bugs are destroyed, the Journal will never awaken.

Sora, resolving to awaken the journal, enters Riku's Data world, where he meets a separate Riku, but at the same time loses all his abilities in the form of crowns. In order to recover these, Sora visits the memories of this Data-Riku, including the worlds he has been to. Afterwards, the two continue into Hollow Bastion, where they encounter the journal once again, infested by bugs. Sora defeats the Journal, regaining his abilities in the process. Sora then encounters and defeats Dragon Maleficent, and Mickey finds that soon he and his friends will be returning to the real world. Although, after the journal has been restored, the Data-Sora will lose all of his memories. The journal soon reaches 100% completion and is ready to be erased, but Data-Sora wants to save Pete and Maleficent, who are still in a part of the data world, only partially erased.

Sora finds them battling his Heartless, but before he can help them, Maleficent and Pete are seemingly erased from existence. Sora fights and defeats his Heartless. Mickey finally returns to the real world, but the door to a new world has opened. The journal explains that it is the data world of the data that was added in it. Mickey, realizing that it will now be dangerous for Data-Sora, who has lost his memories, to venture out on his own, requests to be taken into the data world once again.

After defeating Sora's Heartless and eliminating the bug blocks in the process, he returns to the data worlds. Then, Data-Sora enters a data version of Castle Oblivion. He meets with the mysterious cloaked boy, as well as various figures from Sora's memories, such as Cloud, Cid, Wakka, Aladdin, the Cheshire Cat, and Mickey. Like the real Sora did, Data-Sora uses World Cards to traverse the castle. Near the end of the story, the mysterious cloaked boy challenges Data-Sora into a fight to show him "the true hurt". After the mysterious cloaked boy's defeat, he reveals himself to be a data version of Roxas, although Data-Sora doesn't recognize him. Data-Sora then proceeds and meets Data-Naminé along with Mickey. Upon encountering the Data-Naminé, it is explained that the bugs were created due to Sora's loss of memory and the resulting reconstruction.

It is eventually revealed to Data-Sora that within his real self lies the destiny to save Roxas, Axel, Xion, Terra, Ventus, Aqua, and the real Naminé herself from their hurting. Data-Sora then thanks Data-Naminé, thus keeping the promise the real Sora made at the end of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, and erases herself from the Notebook, effectively ending her existence. Mickey returns to the real world, writing a letter to inform the real Sora of what he has learned. He writes that he has to meet with him and Yen Sid, and to bring Riku.

Episode 1
Data-Sora looks exactly like the real Sora did in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. He is tanner and somewhat more lanky than his rival Riku. He seems to portray more of a typical teenage boy's looks. Sora has spiky brown hair along with blue eyes. His outfit greatly resembles that of King Mickey, containing large yellow shoes, a white and black overjacket as well as a red jumpsuit and a pair of white with yellow gloves with his signature crown necklace and crown chain.
The first episode takes place on Destiny Islands. Sora helps out Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka around the island while trying to figure out why there are mysterious blocks all over the island. As he is trying to find out, he ends up meeting a figure in a black cloak, who creates a keyhole. Sora goes through the keyhole and fights Darkside, which rids Destiny Islands of the blocks, but ending up getting caught in the darkness consuming the island (in this area, reminiscent of the first game). A new message, "Their torment has been lessened" appears in the journal and the crew in Disney Castle see a scene with Riku meeting with a cloaked figure before disappearing into a black portal.

Episode 2
Personality
The second episode is in Traverse Town. Sora wakes up there after the events in Destiny Island and decides to help out Cid by searching the town for Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Each of them has found a mysterious fragment. After finding them all, Sora realizes they are shaped like a keyhole. The black cloaked figure appears again (after a silent appearance earlier, where Sora wonders if he is creating the blocks, or bugs) giving Sora the last fragment. This fragment becomes a keyhole and Sora then fights Guard Armor. The message "Their torment has been lessened" appears once again and a scene is shown, from the first game, where Sora, Donald, and Goofy first meet. The scene shifts to show Pluto in the background running into a black portal. Being the second scene shown to them, and a scene they don't remember, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy are confused, and soon Heartless show up in the room and Mickey defeats them, but him and the others are trapped in the room.
Data-Sora displays exactly the same personality as the real Sora in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, and is also fully aware that he is merely a digital copy, though he doesn't mind his status much.

Episode 3
Abilities
The third episode is in Wonderland. They are still trapped in the library in Disney Castle, and a new message appears saying "No doors are barred to those who heal?". In the journal, Sora runs into Alice and helps her out by exploring Wonderland and finding Memory Words to restore hers and others' memories. He restores Alice's memories and finds out the keyhole is in the Queen of Hearts' castle. He beats Trickmaster, and returns to see the the black cloaked figure, and both end up in the real world in Disney Castle.
As Data-Sora is based on the real-world Sora, he fights exactly the same as his real-world counterpart, complete with the same ground and aerial combos. His primary ability to destroy the Bug Blox Corruption is the Debug Ability, which he must use every time he visits a world and engages in battle. In Olympus Coliseum, Data-Sora's special attack is Boiling Point.

Episode 4
Weapon
The fourth episode takes place in Olympus Coliseum. It is revealed the black cloaked figure is the journal taking on the form of Riku, and that Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy weren't in the real world any longer and now in the journal which is why Heartless are present and the doors have been locked. Chip and Dale are in the real world trying to communicate with them but are unsuccessful. Sora goes to Olympus Coliseum and fights with Cloud and Hercules. At the conclusion of the episode Pete can be seen standing in front of Sora.

Like the real Sora, Data-Sora wields the Kingdom Key. In Kingdom Hearts coded, this is his only Keyblade available, though in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, he has access to other Keyblades as well. Data-Sora utilizes this mighty blade to fend off both the Heartless and Bug Blox alike. Data-Sora gains a digital Keyblade in the Data Awakening, but loses it to Maleficent in Agrabah, where she destroys it. Eventually, though, the strength of his heart allows him to summon a real Keyblade in Hollow Bastion.

Episode 5
Notes and references
The fifth episode will take place in Agrabah. Scans have shown Sora talking to Aladdin and Genie, Maleficent appearing at the Cave of Wonders, and Jafar returning in his genie form.

Story

Kingdom Hearts coded

In Kingdom Hearts coded, a Sora made of data is created by King Mickey to go on a mission: solve a mysterious message written in Jiminy's Journal saying "We must return to free them from their torment" ("Their hurting will be mended, when you return to end it" in Re:coded). Because the journal is corrupted by a bunch of computer bugs in the form of data blocks, this Sora is created to destroy them.

The actual Sora does not appear until the very end, and the Sora in this game is a computer A.I. created from data from Jiminy's early journal entries.

In order to recover these, Sora visits the memories of this Data-Riku, including the worlds he has been to.

Design

Personality

Data-Sora displays exactly the same personality as the real Sora in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, and is also fully aware that he is merely a digital copy, though he doesn't mind his status much.

Abilities

As Data-Sora is based on the real-world Sora, he fights exactly the same as his real-world counterpart, complete with the same ground and aerial combos. His primary ability to destroy the Bug Blox Corruption is the Debug Ability, which he must use every time he visits a world and engages in battle. In Olympus Coliseum, Data-Sora's special attack is Boiling Point.

Weapon

Both Data-Sora's digital and real Keyblades are based on the Kingdom Key.

Eventually, though, the strength of his heart allows him to summon a real Keyblade in Hollow Bastion.[1]
