Composition[edit]

"Memories in Pieces" is approximately one minute and fifty-four seconds long and plays at a variety of tempos at different sections. The piece switches between time signatures and keys as the piece progresses. It is a medley of four themes—"Hand in Hand", "Scent of Silence", "Naminé", and "Castle Oblivion", telling the story of the opening cutscene of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories.

The piece opens with a slower version of "Hand in Hand", representing the ending of Kingdom Hearts as Sora and company chase Pluto down the path. "Hand in Hand" transitions into a more ominous, mysterious section which incorporates elements from "Scent of Silence", representing Marluxia luring Sora to Castle Oblivion. Naminé's theme then plays as the scene shows her sketching and is then interrupted by "Castle Oblivion", using a driving eighth note pattern from the strings, piano, harp, and choir-ahs. The theme slowly crescendos into the climax of the entire piece, announcing the trio's arrival at Castle Oblivion. There is no difference of versions between games.
