Enchanted Dominion is a world that is featured in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts χ. It is based on the Disney film Sleeping Beauty.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Enchanted Dominion is a world that includes the castles of Maleficent and King Stefan. The highest point of King Stefan's castle is the Tower Room (屋根裏部屋, Yaneuraheya, lit. "Attic Room") with a clear view of world outside, while down the stairs is Aurora's Chamber (オーロラの部屋, Ōrora no Heya). Outside of this room is the Hallway (廊下, Rōka), filled with beautiful stained glass windows, which leads to the stairs down to the Audience Chamber (謁見の間, Ekken no Ma), the castle's largest room where Wheel Master is also fought.

Through the gates of the castle is a long Bridge (橋, Hashi), which is temporarily covered in thorns during the battle against Dragon Maleficent. The bridge connects to the Forest Clearing (森:広場, Mori: Hiroba, lit. "Forest: Square"), which further leads to the Waterside (森:水辺, Mori: Mizube, lit. "Forest: Waterside") area deeper within the forest.

Beyond the Waterside is the Forbidden Mountain (魔女の城:入口, Majo no Shiro: Iriguchi, lit. "Witch's Castle: Entrance"), a dark and twisty path which marks the edge of Maleficent's territory. At the top of the mountain lies Maleficent's Castle (魔女の城, Majo no Shiro, lit. "Witch's Castle"), where no Unversed are found and is instead filled with Maleficent's goons. Entering the castle leads to the ruined Gates (門, Mon), while proceeding further inside will lead to Maleficent's Throne (玉座の間, Gyokuza no Ma, lit. "Throne Room"). The throne room is large circular area, filled with broken pillars barely supporting the roof, and Maleficent's throne up above. To the left of the throne is the large Hall (祭壇の間, Saidan no Ma, lit. "Altar Room"), which is either an open area, or a maze filled with portals, depending on whether Aqua or Ventus is the one visiting the world. Navigating through the hall leads to the Dungeon (地下, Chika, lit. "Basement"), much similar to the Gates area, with its ruined walls and stairways. Below the Dungeon is the Dungeon Cell (牢屋, Rōya), where Prince Philip is held prisoner.

Story

Before Kingdom Hearts χ

The Master of Masters, seeing the future written in the Book of Prophecies, learns that Maleficent will travel through time in an attempt to change her fate. To counter this, the Master makes sure that Enchanted Dominion is not created in the real world before the Keyblade War. Kingdom Hearts Union χ

Kingdom Hearts χ

Player wakes up in a data projection of Enchanted Dominion, having just experienced a nightmare that detailed the events of the Keyblade War. Player is confused and asks Chirithy why they had been sleeping in such a strange place, which Chirithy blames on fatigue.

Player and Chirithy attempt to explore Enchanted Dominion, but find the bath blocked by a briar thicket, and decide to return later. As they leave, Maleficent's Raven flies overhead and reunites with Maleficent, who has traveled back in time following her future defeat by Sora.

Kingdom Hearts Union χ

Player and Chirithy chase a Fluttering into Enchanted Dominion, and meet Prince Phillip and his horse Samson, who are drawn away by Aurora's singing. Phillip and Aurora, who is disguised as "Briar Rose", recognize each other from their dreams, and share a conversation while Player and Chirithy look on. Before they can exchange names, Aurora invites Phillip to meet her at the cottage before running away. Chirithy, realizing that Aurora is a Princess of Heart, speculates that the Heartless are after her. Aurora is attacked in the woods by Heartless, but is saved by Player.

Player follows the Fluttering they had been chasing earlier to a cottage, where Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather are being swarmed by several more Flutterings. Player dispatches the Heartless, and the three good fairies thank them before returning indoors to set up for Aurora's sixteenth birthday party. Their preparations cause magic to spout from the chimney, which Maleficent's Raven notices.

Aurora returns to the cottage and invites Player inside. The three good fairies surprise Aurora with a dress and cake, and reveal she is a princess and is betrothed to Prince Phillip. Distraught that she can never see the man she'd met earlier again, Aurora runs to her room in tears. Maleficent's Raven, having overheard the conversation, returns to the Forbidden Mountain in order to report what he has learned to Maleficent. As Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather prepare to take Aurora to the castle, they ask Player to help defend them against the Heartless. After traveling through the forest, they part ways just outside of the castle boundaries, but Chirithy worries about Maleficent and urges Player to follow after them.

After taking Aurora to her room, the three good fairies give a still-morose Aurora a moment alone. Maleficent appears and uses her magic to guide Aurora up the tower steps toward a spinning wheel. The three good fairies attempt to rush after her, and are joined by Player. However, Maleficent summons Thorned Snake to stall them, and after defeating it, they find that they are too late; Maleficent has made Aurora touch the spindle of the spinning wheel, cursing her to eternal sleep. Ashamed by their failure, the three good fairies put the entire kingdom to sleep until Aurora wakes. Unable to do anything else, Player and Chirithy leave Enchanted Dominion.

Meanwhile, Prince Phillip visits the cottage with Samson, intent on seeing Aurora, but he is ambushed by Maleficent and her goons, who imprison him in the dungeon.

Player returns to Enchanted Dominion, and the three good fairies enlist their help in finding Prince Phillip, whom they have learned is the stranger Aurora met. Back at the cottage, they find Phillip's hat and suspect Maleficent has taken him to her castle in the Forbidden Mountain. They find Maleficent's castle heavily guarded, so the fairies shrink themselves and Player down to miniature size to sneak inside. In the dungeons, Maleficent reveals Aurora's true identity and fate to Phillip, and taunts him before leaving. The three good fairies and Player sneak into the dungeon cell and free Phillip. Flora arms Phillip with a magic sword and shield, and Player promises to help Phillip fight Maleficent.

As they make their escape, Maleficent's Raven spots them and rouses the guard. Player and Phillip manage to fight their way to an imprisoned Samson and escape, with Merryweather turning Maleficent's Raven to stone. However, Maleficent sees their escape and uses her magic to trap Player in her castle. Player manages to escape and follows Phillip, but Maleficent then creates a forest of thorns around King Stefan's castle to impede Phillip. As Player reaches the forest, Maleficent flies in after Phillip. Player fights their way to Phillip and the three good fairies. Then, the group is accosted by Maleficent, who transforms into a dragon and sets the thicket aflame. Player and Phillip battle Maleficent before the three good fairies enchant Phillip's sword, which he uses to defeat her. With Maleficent gone, the forest of thorns disappears and Phillip is able to reach Aurora and wake her with true love's kiss. Afterwards, Player watches Phillip and Aurora dancing while Chirithy remarks on the power of true love.

Back in Maleficent's Castle, Maleficent is frustrated at her inability to alter her fate. A mysterious figures appears and introduces itself as Darkness, and reveals that Maleficent is actually in a data version of Enchanted Dominion created as a trap to keep Maleficent from bringing the knowledge of the past to the future. Darkness explains that the Master of Masters knew Maleficent would come here through the Book of Prophecies. Darkness then informs Maleficent that there is a way she can escape and return to her own time, and agrees to help her.

Between Kingdom Hearts Union χ and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Shortly after Princess Aurora's birth, Maleficent places a curse on her. In order to keep her safe, Aurora is taken by Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather and raised by them as "Briar Rose".

As part of their Mark of Mastery exam, Vidar, Vala, Vali, Hoder, Heimdall, Helgi, and Sigrun journey to Enchanted Dominion. There, they learn that Aurora has been cursed by Maleficent and debate whether or not they should intervene. That night, Hoder sneaks off to Maleficent's castle and confronts her dragon form. Baldr appears and attempts to rescue Hoder, but Hoder dies attempting to protect him. Meanwhile, the other upper classmen realize Hoder's disappearance. Heimdall, Helgi and Sigrun decide to look for her, while Vidar, Vala, and Vali remain behind. Heimdall, Helgi, and Sigrun discover a dying Hoder and attempt to fight Maleficent's dragon form, but are vanquished by Baldr's darkness. Kingdom Hearts Dark Road

Some time later, Aurora and Prince Phillip see each other in their dreams, and are eventually able to briefly meet. On Aurora's sixteenth birthday, Maleficent causes Aurora to trigger the curse she placed on her, sending her into an eternal slumber. After Aurora is cursed by Maleficent, Flora casts a spell to put the castle residents into a slumber. Maleficent captures and imprisons Prince Phillip so that he cannot break Aurora's curse.

Xehanort visits Enchanted Dominion and informs Maleficent about the Keyblade and its wielders Terra, Aqua, and Ventus, as well as the Princesses of Heart that are the key to conquering other worlds. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Terra visits Enchanted Dominion in search of Xehanort, and finds it overrun with Unversed. At the castle bridge, Terra meets Maleficent and inquires about Xehanort, whom Maleficent denies knowing, but points Terra towards the castle and Aurora. When Terra finds the sleeping Aurora in her room, Maleficent appears to explain that Aurora's heart holds the key to controlling all worlds, and asks Terra to retrieve it for her. When Terra refuses, Maleficent puts him into a trance, and, while he's entranced, Maleficent and Xehanort steal Aurora's heart. After Terra regains himself, Maleficent claims he was responsible for the deed, and asks him to join her, but he refuses. As Terra prepares to fight her, the Wheel Master shakes the castle, and Maleficent disappears. Terra descends the castle and defeats the Wheel Master, after which he leaves the world.

Shortly after Terra's departure, Ventus finds Aurora sleeping in her room. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather approach Ventus, initially mistaking him for an enemy, but after sensing his pure heart they agree to help him retrieve Aurora's stolen heart. Ventus and the three good fairies travel to Maleficent's Castle in the Forbidden Mountain and find Aurora's heart imprisoned inside. As Ventus releases the captive heart, he sees Aurora's memories of Prince Phillip. At the same time, Aqua arrives at Enchanted Dominion and sees Aurora's freed heart leaving Maleficent's Castle, and decides to investigate.

As Ventus as the three good fairies attempt to leave, Maleficent confronts them, and, recognizing Ventus, tells him that Terra stole Aurora's heart. Ventus thinks she is lying and the two battle. With the three fairies' help, Ventus defeats Maleficent, but she continues to taunt him about Terra. Aqua arrives and insists that Maleficent must be lying, and urges Ventus to come home with her, but he refuses and runs off. After he leaves, Maleficent once again claims Terra had helped her and invites Aqua to join her as well, but Aqua refuses, so Maleficent causes the ground beneath Aqua to crumble, sending her to the dungeon.

In the dungeon, Aqua meets Prince Phillip. The three good fairies arrive to free them, recognizing Prince Phillip as Aurora's true love. They escape and head to King Stefan's castle, where Maleficent confronts them, covering the bridge in thorns and transforming into a dragon. Aqua and Phillip fight Maleficent, and Aqua ends up separated by green flame. The three good fairies enchant Phillip's sword, which he throws at the dragon, defeating her and dispelling the thorns. Phillip enters the castle and wakes Aurora with a kiss, ending the curse. As Maleficent limps away, Aqua tells her that she stands no chance against light, but Maleficent insists that as light exists, so will darkness, and swears her return.

Sometime after Terra-Xehanort's defeat, Maleficent is seen standing on the bridge outside the castle. Inside, Aurora and Phillip dance together while Flora and Merryweather change the color of Aurora's dress between pink and blue.

Between Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts

Some time later, Maleficent once again steals Aurora's heart, while Enchanted Dominion is consumed by Heartless and falls to darkness.

In the realm of darkness, Aqua comes across the Forest of Thorns, the thorn-filled remains of Enchanted Dominion, where she fights multiple Darksides at the Forbidden Mountain. Afterward, Terra's lost heart is able to make contact with Aqua. Xehanort attempts to use their link to find out where Ventus is being kept, and, as Terra resists, Aqua is pulled into a dark portal. When the Door to Darkness is sealed, the worlds that have fallen to darkness are restored, including Enchanted Dominion.
