Symphony of Sorcery is a Sleeping World that is featured in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, the second to be based on the Disney film, Fantasia. The world features Mickey as a sorcerer commanding the Brooms.

Like Timeless River and Country of the Musketeers, Symphony of Sorcery is set in the past, during a period where Mickey was in pursuit of knowledge to become a Keyblade Master.

Development

Since the conception of the first Kingdom Hearts, Tetsuya Nomura had wanted to include a world based on Fantasia, but was unable to and ended up only including Chernabog as a boss in End of the World, though in a battlefield very similar to the Night on Bald Mountain segment.[1]

Setting and Areas

It is a dream version of Yen Sid's Mysterious Tower, composed of Yen Sid's Chamber, Tower Entrance, and Tower. The song books within the chamber lead to two other worlds. In Sora's side, the song book to The Pastoral Symphony, he enters the Cloudwalk, which takes place up in the sky. On top of the mountain is the Glen, where Sora can fly up in the air. Finally, Sora enters the Fields and gets the Sound Idea. In Riku's side, the song book to the Nutcracker Suite, he arrives to Moonlight Wood, which takes place at night. Once the grass is cleared, he enters the Golden Wood. Riku finds the Sound Idea at Snowgleam Wood, but is thrown into a fight with Chernabog at Bald Mountain.

Story

Between Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts

Sometime after Terra-Xehanort's descent into darkness, his Heartless, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, attacked many worlds and swallowed them into the darkness. One of these worlds was Symphony of Sorcery. Though it was restored after Sora defeated Ansem and destroyed the End of the World, Symphony of Sorcery remained in a state of deep sleep instead of returning to the Realm of Light, plagued by Nightmare Dream Eaters.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Exhausted from fetching water up the tower, Mickey spots Yen Sid's sorcerer's hat on his desk. Making sure that no one was around, he puts it on and begins casting magic, unknowingly summoning the Dream Eater Spellican after it evaded its pursuers in Traverse Town. In Riku's side, Mickey used Yen Sid's hat to bring a broom to life to do his chore for him while he takes a nap. But upon awakening, Mickey sees more brooms acting on his command as they flooded the room with water. In both scenarios, Mickey ends up in a magically induced sleep by the Spellican that has took residence within a song book. As Sora arrives into the world within the song book, he witness Mickey casting magic spells, bringing in a few waves, shooting stars, thunderclouds before the Spellican appears and knocks Sora out of the song book. Coming to, Sora recognizes that he is in what appears to be Yen Sid's tower. However, since the sleeping Mickey, does not recognized him, Sora guesses that he was in another dream world detailing Mickey's past. Communicating telepathically with Sora, Mickey explains that Spellican took residence in the song book and the other way to break through the barrier it created is with a Sound Idea.

At this time, within his version of the world, Riku finds Mickey trapped in darkness. Realizing that the possessed book is responsible for it, Riku attempts to smash it with his Keyblade, but Mickey reminds telepathically him that brute force won't work. Like Sora, Mickey does not recognize Riku, but does have a feeling that they will be friends one day. With both youths offering their help, the Mickeys of each version summons an unpossessed book that Sora and Riku to enter. Making his way through the magical realms within the song book, Riku finds his target Sound Idea. However, Riku is brought to Bald Mountain by the mysterious young man who attempts to undermine Riku by stating that his mistakes only cause problems for other people. However, Riku remains unperturbed and demands what the man is planning. Seeing Riku's determination, the man commends Riku for being able to lock the darkness within him, but adds that Riku is no longer of any use to him and his allies as he leaves the youth to be killed by Chernabog. Appearing before Sora as he obtains his Sound Idea, the mysterious youth tells Sora that he will be waiting for him in an area beyond sleep.

Sora returns to the tower and Mickey tries using the Sound Idea on the possessed book. When it failed, Mickey concludes that one Sound Idea was not enough to rid the darkness from it. Sora reassures him, saying that he has a friend out there that was helping him and "picking up his slack". As Sora closes his eyes, Riku's Sound Idea appears, allowing Sora to use them to create a powerful song that destroy the darkness barrier in both scenarios, although his Mickey remained in slumber. As Riku tells his revived Mickey talks to him able how his friend was responsible that that he can always "find the brightest part of anything, and pull of miracles like there's nothing to it", Sora battles the Spellican and frees Mickey. Mickey thanks Sora with a friendly handshake. Leaving to fetch the water before he gets into trouble, Mickey runs to the door, but not before bidding Sora farewell and that he will see him soon, to which the latter agrees to. Both Sora and Riku unlock their respective Keyholes before before continuing on their journeys. Template:Section-stub
