Overlay commands are commands that only appear within the rail-shooting and side-scrolling areas of Traverse Town, Wonderland, and Hollow Bastion and they have limited number of uses. During rail-shooters and side-scrollers, only one command slot is available. If another command is obtained while another one is already is use, the new command replaces the old one,

An Overlay command is obtained by picking up a diamond-shaped power-up, which are found in certain areas. Power-ups have four different elements, which are shown by their distictive colors; red represents Fire, blue represents Blizzard, yellow represents Thunder and green represents Aero. Each element gives different commands.
