Treasure Chest

To open small treasure chests in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Sora taps them twice with the tip of his Keyblade.

Treasure Chests are scattered throughout the worlds of the Kingdom Hearts series. Finding treasure chests is the primary method of obtaining items within the Kingdom Hearts series. Chests are usually out in the open, though they can sometimes be hidden, requiring interaction with the environment or the use of a Trinity to reveal.

In Kingdom Hearts coded, treasure chests are replaced by Prize Blox.

Initial designs[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts, chests have three main designs, green, red, and blue, which differ slightly based on the world they appear in. Atlantica contains a large, sunken treasure chest, as well as four types of giant clam shells that operate similar to chests. The clam shells come in four different types: "Physical", "Fire", "Blizzard", and "Thunder", specifying the attack attribute that must be performed to open them, and are distinguished by their hue.

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, only red chests appear, while in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, red chests appear in Calm Bounty, Guarded Trove, and False Bounty rooms, and blue chests appear in the Room of Rewards. A single red treasure chest also appears in Tigger's Playground.

Later designs[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts III, chests come in small and large sizes, and vary based on the world they appear in. The two sizes of chest for a specific world have similar designs, although there are always slight differences, and the designs for each size and world are constant between the four games. In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, only large chests appear.

In Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III, small chests can contain items, synthesis materials, accessories, or non-Keyblade weapons, while large chests can contain maps, Keychains, or key items. In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, small chests can contain Deck Commands or synthesis materials, while large chests can contain maps, recipes, or pages of Xehanort's Report. In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, small chests can contain item commands, Dream Pieces, or Training Toys, while large chests can contain recipes or Deck Commands.

In Kingdom Hearts χ, treasure chests come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Unlike previous games, the color of the chest is now based on its contents, with the rarity or amount of prizes depending on the size. Red, blue, and purple chests contain items, orange chests contain attack prizes, and green chests contain HP prizes. Some events contain unique treasure chests.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Spiderchests mimic large chests, although they do not replicate the designs exactly.
