Story

Miguel's power is channeled by the Book of Prophecies to create the Miguel, Miguel & Héctor, and Miguel & Dante Medals.

Appearance

Miguel is a young Latino boy with a round face, black, mop-like hair, brown eyes, and dark skin. He wears a white tank top, blue jeans, and a red jacket.

Origin

Miguel first appeared as the main protagonist of the Disney/Pixar film Coco, voiced by Anthony Gonzalez. Ever since an ancestor of his, a musician, disappeared one day, his family, starting with his great-great-grandmother Mamá Imelda, has banned music while making shoes. Miguel, however, has a lingering interest in music, inspired by the late musician Ernesto de la Cruz. One day, when he tries to audition for a talent show on the Day of the Dead, Miguel discovers a photo featuring Imelda and her daughter Coco featuring a man with a guitar resembling Ernesto's. Believing that Ernesto is his great-great-grandfather, Miguel tries to steal Ernesto's guitar from a mausoleum, but is cursed and transported into the Land of the Dead.

After reuniting with his deceased family members, Miguel learns that he has removed Imelda's photo from the family ofrenda. To escape the Land of the Dead, he must gain the blessing of an ancestor, so he sets off on a quest to gain Ernesto's blessing, teaming up with lowly skeleton Héctor along the way. He eventually discovers Ernesto, but soon realizes that Ernesto is actually not related by blood to Miguel. As it turns out, Héctor is Miguel's great-great-grandfather and thus Coco's father, and Ernesto was the one who killed Héctor and took credit for his songs. With the elderly Coco slowly beginning to forget Héctor, Miguel vows to restore Héctor's place on the family ofrenda. Miguel reconciles with his family, defeats Ernesto with their help, and is transported back to the land of the living with Héctor's blessing. Back in the land of the living, Miguel helps a near-catatonic Coco remember Héctor, thus restoring his memory. With Héctor's memory retained, Miguel's family continues to honor their relatives.
