Like Ansem's Reports, the full text of Xehanort's Report is listed within the hero's journal.

Xehanort Report 1
Xehanort's Letter
It has been a long time since leaving my hometown,
::Ventus obtains Xehanort's Letter after leaving the Land of Departure.
but I until now I have traveled to many worlds and obtained a lot of knowledge.
:Please accept my deepest gratitude for the invitation to witness your pupils' accession to the office of true Keyblade Master. It was a heavy mantle our Master placed upon your shoulders naming you Successor, but you have nonetheless persevered and raised two Masters yourself. I know it cannot have been easy.
I will record part of my progress here.

If I recall, my destiny changed when I arrived at a certain location,
:I did you terrible harm in the past over a petty difference in opinion, and just a few years ago selfishly thrust my own burdens upon you. I think of you like a younger brother, and yet, fool that I am, I have never availed myself of countless opportunities to apologize or thank you for opening your home to the boy. Yet not once have you blamed me; on the contrary, here you are inviting me to such an important ceremony. I intend to be there to offer you all my blessings.
and learned of the terms called "master" and "brother".
That was when I gained a new hometown.

And then there was the Keyblade.
:Our Master chose his heir wisely. Ours is a bizarrely ironic task—to watch over the light from the shadows—but in the face of that, the warmth in your heart and unfailing dedication to the light impress me to no end.
What was its original purpose and who had created it?
During my training as a Keyblade wielder,
I was told that it was a guardian of the light which
watches over the world from the shadows.
But is that really all it is?
Although anything not related to my mission was forbidden,
out of personal inquiry, I have sometimes traveled
the world to gain new knowledge.

Xehanort Report 2
:I have taken to wandering the World, and seen much darkness hiding in the light. Lately, I fear it has taken a turn for the worse. Perhaps Yen Sid has already told you about the Unversed? These fledgling emotions derive from negativity, and I can now sense their presence in nearly every world.
According to my master, when coming and going between the
worlds, the body should be protected from the darkness with
armor; however, whenever I use the Strange Dimension Corridor, I have
noticed a strong presence flow into me so I have stopped wearing armor.
It may be the case that my body is consumed by darkness,
but should I gain the power to control even the darkness,
It will not be something for me to fear.

The world is large and inhabited by countless beings.
:And on the topic of darkness: we must speak of another matter that concerns me, one related to the upcoming ceremony. When I visited several years ago, your pupil Terra drew my attention. His power is immense, to be sure, but within his heart I could see darkness just waiting to be awakened. I know this is none of my business, but I have reservations about welcoming Terra as a true Keyblade Master without taking certain precautions. The traditional examination, perhaps, to see if he has the Mark of Mastery? The choice is yours, and I will humbly respect your decision.
The individual worlds are not mutually exclusive with the
space-void-like sea called the Strange Dimension,
but rather, they are all dotted throughout the Strange Dimension.

Those different worlds have their own sense of order,
:Take care. I eagerly await our long overdue reunion.
and like ourselves, they are unaware of the entirety of this world.
As well, we cannot allow other worlds to come to know this fact.

Xehanort Report 3
Xehanort's Report I
In ancient times, when there were no gaps between the worlds,
::Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report I from a chest on the Launch Deck at Deep Space.
the worlds did not hide themselves behind walls of light unlike today,
:Much time has passed since I left the home of my youth behind, and in the myriad worlds I have since visited, I have gained much knowledge. On these pages, I intend to record a portion of that knowledge, and put the course of my life to paper.
and were not protected from physically interfering with one another.

At that time, the worlds were overflowing with light,
:Upon reflection, my life underwent the most considerable sea-change when I arrived at that place. Yes, it began when I found a Master, and another I would later call my brother—when I found a new home.
and there were even a great number of Keyblade wielders.
However, in a world without gaps, the rush to claim the light began.

They unfortunately understood the original purpose for using a Keyblade.
:Then there was the Keyblade. For what purpose was it begotten, and by whom? During my training as one of its wielders, the precepts offered a clear answer: the Keyblade existed so that we who watched over the light could protect the world from the shadows.
Trying to make the great heart of light called Kingdom Hearts their own,
the Keyblade wielders began to wage war.

Kingdom Hearts can be considered the gathering place of hearts.
:But was that the TRUE answer? Could there not be more to it than that? My heart sought knowledge, and so I sometimes visited other worlds—though such travel was forbidden unless duty required—and found what my heart sought.
Just like the hearts of people, worlds also have hearts.
Generally, you cannot see the location of a world's heart.
Hidden within each world is a door behind which lies the heart of that world.
By gathering the hearts of all of the worlds into one,
Kingdom Hearts can be completed.

Xehanort Report 4
Xehanort's Report II
And the opening of the door of a complete Kingdom Hearts
::Terra obtains Xehanort's Report II after defeating Braig at Radiant Garden.
is said to lead to the creation of a new world.
:Our Master instructed us to don armor while traveling between worlds, so that we might shield ourselves from the darkness. But there, in the Lanes Between, I could feel the force of it—the power—and from then on, I forwent my armor's "protection." I had been told the darkness would devour me, but what terrors could it possibly hold, so long as I found the strength to control it?
It is something which exceeds the human domain.
In other words, it means that those who open the door will
be reborn into something other than human.

Light and Dark are one in the same;
:The World is vast—and the worlds within the greater World, uncountable. Like little islands, they dot a great Ocean Between which keeps them ignorant of each other, uncorrupted.
there is no light which lacks darkness.
The war surrounding Kingdom Hearts which was started by
the Keyblade wielders enveloped even those who had taken
no participation in the war. Those who were trying to protect the Light,
those who were trying to support the Dark,
those who were trying to mediate between the Light and the Dark,
those who sought power for merely selfish reasons,
all had their own expectations and as a result all became involved
and the whole world became covered in darkness.

With this, the Keyblade War came to an end.
:Each world had its own order. Unlike us, they could not know of the World in its entirety, and we were never to enlighten them.
There has yet to be anyone to open the door to Kingdom Hearts.

Afterwards, the worlds of today were created by the light from the
Xehanort's Report III
few hearts that remained, and, so that war would not once again
::Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report III from a chest in Merlin's House at Radiant Garden.
break out, each and every world hid behind their own walls.
:In ancient times, no such buffers kept the larger World divided; there were no walls of light enclosing each smaller world the way they do today. Nothing prevented one from physically interfering with the next.

Xehanort Report 5
:At that time, the World was filled with light, and a great many Keyblade wielders. But without buffers, the worlds began to squabble over ownership of the light. You see, they learned of the Keyblade's true use. War broke out as each of the Keyblade wielders struggled to lay claim to an almighty entity known as Kingdom Hearts.
Currently both the Keyblade wielders and those whose bodies have fallen
to darkness can use the Corridors and travel the Realm Between.

In order to prevent the worlds from dying out like before,
:Kingdom Hearts could be described as an aggregate of hearts. Worlds, too, have hearts, just like people; each world's heart is concealed from sight, beyond a hidden door. By gathering all the hearts of all the worlds in a single place, one may complete Kingdom Hearts.
the mission of the Keyblade wielders is to pass through the gaps between
the worlds to observe and protect them from the dark existence which
tries to intervene in the worlds.

Even the Keyblade wielders are currently dwindling in number.
Xehanort's Report IV
There are at least several confirmed outside of ourselves but
::Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report IV after speaking with Yen Sid at the Mysterious Tower.
in such a spacious realm, where they could have gone is unknown.
:And when Kingdom Hearts is complete, it is said the one who opens its door will bring about the creation of the Next World. Such a feat is above any human. Or, to put it a different way: whoever opens that door will be reborn as something far greater than human.

In addition to the realm we inhabit, the Realm of Light,
:Light and darkness are two sides of the same coin; without darkness, there is no light. The Keyblade wielders' great war over Kingdom Hearts was fought by defenders of the light, servants of darkness, those who sought to reconcile the two, and those motivated by nothing more than lust for power. A whole spectrum of thought was swept into the conflict, and the worlds that did not go to war found the war brought to them. In the end, the whole World was cast into darkness.
there is the Realm of Darkness and the realm which connects them,
the Realm Between.
Among them, the Realm of Darkness is forbidden ground.
I hear there has yet to be anyone to return from that realm.

Xehanort Report 6
:That was how the ancient Keyblade War drew to a close. To this day, no one has ever managed to open the door to Kingdom Hearts.
There are 3 types of Keyblades; the ones we use, the Keyblades of the
Realm of Light, the Keyblades of the Realm of Darkness, and the Keyblade
of a person's heart.

The Keyblades of the Realm of Darkness exist within the Realm of Darkness.
:Some time later, the little light that remained in the hearts of the few gave rise to the World we know today: one made of many worlds behind just as many walls, so that the Keyblade War would not be repeated.
They are in opposition to the Keyblades of the Realm of Light which we use.
Other than the Realm from which they come, there is no difference between
these two Keyblades.

Then there is the 3rd type of Keyblade; the Keyblade of a person's heart.
Xehanort's Report V
This type of Keyblade was born at the time the Realm greatly changed as a
::Terra obtains Xehanort's Report V after completing Sinister Sentinel at the Mirage Arena.
result of the war. Because of this fact, it seems as though you it is no longer
:At present, the lanes and corridors that run between the worlds may only be traversed by us Keyblade wielders, and those who have given themselves over to darkness.
possible to get near Kingdom Hearts without one of these.
By gathering the 7 hearts of pure light you can complete the Keyblade of a
person's heart and open the door to Kingdom Hearts.

If by chance, you could open the door to Kingdom Hearts,
:As the former, our duty is to cross the chasms between worlds and guard against the latter, whose darkness corrupts and contaminates, so that no world need ever be lost again.
you could theoretically control every world and person.

Xehanort Report 7
:Few Keyblade wielders remain now; I have heard of but a handful of others outside my circle. But the World is vast, and more of our kind may be out there.
The greatest mystery hidden among the Keyblades.
Keyblade... A different Keyblade from those 3 realms.
The name sounds the same but it is written as X-Blade,
and it falsely resembles the Keyblade.

Keyblades are considered to be brought about by people,
:Now, in addition to the realm of light in which we reside, there is also a realm of darkness, and the realm between which connects the two. The realm of darkness is most forbidden; I am told none who set foot there have ever returned.
together with the existence of Kingdom Hearts.
However, X-Blade is one together with the existence called Kingdom Hearts.

X-Blade is born when two hearts of equal strength,
Xehanort's Report VI
one of pure light and one of pure darkness, intersect.
::Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report VI after defeating Maleficent at Enchanted Dominion.
And then, the Kingdom Hearts which appears at that same time
:There are three families of Keyblades: the Keyblades of light we wield, Keyblades of darkness, and Keyblades of heart.
is not an artificially (unnaturally) assembled Kingdom Hearts,
but rather a Kingdom Hearts assembled of all the world's hearts.
In other words, I believe the ancient Keyblade War
occurred because of this.

If that is the case, even though the worlds of the present
:The first and second families differ only in origin; Keyblades of darkness are found in the realm of darkness, and are counterparts to the Keyblades we use in the realm of light.
erected barriers of isolation, even with only the X-Blade, the hearts
of all the worlds will gather and complete Kingdom Hearts.
In other words the return of the Keyblade War.

Xehanort Report 8
:The third type of key, the Keyblade of heart, came into existence when the World was reorganized after the Keyblade War. Without this key, Kingdom Hearts is forever beyond a person's reach. Only by gathering together seven hearts of pure light—hearts completely devoid of darkness—may one forge a Keyblade of heart and open the door to Kingdom Hearts.
My fellow pupil, Eraqus thinks that the light is absolute,
but that all light has its darkness.
I think equilibrium between light and dark help
preserve the balance of the world.
However, the world of today, which has removed too much
of the darkness, has shattered the balance.
The present order of the light could all at once be destroyed
by the rise of the darkness so it is necessary to re-organize the worlds.

After a conflict in opinion with Eraqus, I wandered about the worlds.
:And, as stated before, opening this door arguably gives that person control over all worlds and all people.
I had probably finally obtained my freedom since leaving my hometown as a boy.
However, already having become a Keyblade Master, this was no longer
my purpose. Not having a legitimate successor, the only mission left
to me was to raise and train the next generation.

Generally, Keyblade Masters take on pupils,
Xehanort's Report VII
indoctrinate them on the teachings of the Keyblade wielders,
::Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report VII after defeating Ventus-Vanitas at Keyblade Graveyard.
always a need to look to the next generation.
:I have uncovered the Keyblade's ultimate mystery. You see, besides the three families of Keyblades, there is another "Key Blade." While it may sound the same when spoken, it is notated uniquely: "χ-blade." And make no mistake, while it resembles a normal Keyblade, it is something altogether different.
However, having thrown away my own hometown just to come to this
point, is it really okay to go out like this?
No, even now, I still have many things I want to confirm with my own eyes.
is it really okay to just go out quietly in the end?
It is hard not to notice that even this body has become quite old.

Xehanort Report 9
:Keyblades are said to be man-made counterparts to Kingdom Hearts. The χ-blade, however, coexists with Kingdom Hearts.
Keyblade Masters hold a special ability,
they can extract the hearts of themselves as well as other people.
Repeating this process should allow one
to remain in this world indefinitely.

As a boy, I dreamt of the boundary of this realm.
:It is only forged when two hearts of equal power intersect—one heart of pure darkness, one heart of pure light. At the time of its forging, Kingdom Hearts appears. It must be noted, though, that this Kingdom Hearts is special. Unlike the Kingdoms brought about forcibly and artificially through the collection of hearts, THIS Kingdom Hearts is a perfect and complete union of ALL the worlds' hearts. Surely it was over this that the ancient Keyblade War was fought.
A realm no one had yet reached.
A realm no one had even seen.
The new realm that is created by opening the doors to Kingdom Hearts,
the complete realm in which Light and Dark are in equal balance.

Having gained a lot of knowledge and even a new purpose,
:If so, the walls that divide the worlds today are of little consequence. With the χ-blade, all their hearts could be instantly reunited—and the Keyblade War, refought.
the only thing which remains is this aged body.
The next goal to achieve was searching for a new vessel.

That is when I met Ven and made him my apprentice.
Xehanort's Report VIII
Meeting him was destiny. I could even feel his potential,
::Terra obtains Xehanort's Report VIII after defeating Master Eraqus at the Land of Departure.
but he is far too gentle.
:My brother pupil Eraqus thinks only in absolutes. He has persuaded himself that light is the only way, but forgets that light cannot exist without shadow. I believe a balance of light and darkness is what sustains our World, but too much of the darkness has been stamped out, disrupting that balance. Someone must tear down this tyranny of light and reorganize the World around the darkness which then creeps back in.
I decided I could not use the frail Ven as my vessel
so I planned to use him for my other goal.

By extracting the darkness from Ven's heart, I will split him in two.
:Eraqus and I did not see eye to eye. I left, and wandered the World. This was perhaps the first time I felt truly free since that day I departed my boyhood home. But free to do what? I had already shown the Mark and become a Keyblade Master—but having been passed over as Successor, all that remained to me was the road of teacher.
This way, the hearts of pure light and pure darkness will be complete.

Xehanort Report 10
:Ordinarily, Keyblade Masters take pupils under their wings, malleable minds in which to impress the precepts of the Keyblade wielder and keep our profession alive for generations to come. Was my time drawing to an end, then, after all I had accomplished since casting away the place of my birth? Surely waiting for a quiet death would not do, not when there was still so much I needed to see for myself. Powers help me, I thought, my body is so old...
Just as I figured, Ven's body was not able to withstand having
his heart extracted. Although the extraction of the heart
of pure darkness, Vanitas, was a success, the process
left Ven in a comatose-like state.

The heart of pure light, Ventus.
Xehanort's Report IX
The heart of pure darkness, Vanitas.
::Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report IX after leaving Destiny Islands.
:We Keyblade Masters have a special gift. We can extract a heart, be it our own or that of another. By continuing this cycle, it is possible to remain in the world of the living forever.

Raising these two might one day lead to the potential of completing
:As a boy, I dreamed of seeing the farthest reaches of the World. If I only went far enough, there had to be a world out there in which no one had ever before set foot. And now I know of just such a world. If I become the first to open Kingdom Hearts' door, I can create a Next World in which light and darkness exist in perfect equilibrium.
the X-Blade should the two hearts intersect.

However, Vanitas's heart of darkness was too strong.
:So there I stood, with vast knowledge in one gnarled, dying hand, and newfound purpose in the other. The next step was clear: I needed a new vessel.
Ven's heart is in shambles and the heart of light is about to die out.
For the sake of at least letting him die in a peaceful place
I thought about where I could take him.
The first place which popped into my mind was my own hometown.

And then, my feet spontaneously began to move, and by the time I
:And that was when I met Ventus and made him my pupil. We were destined to meet, and I could sense the potential within him, but the boy was too benign for his own good. I came to the conclusion he was too frail to serve as a vessel, and decided to use him for a second purpose I had in mind.
realized it, I was already standing on a beach.
I had not once returned home since departing all those years ago,
but it had truly not changed one bit.
It was as if time stood still in this peaceful place.
I thought of all places, Ven would surely be able to rest in peace here,
however, the unconscious Ven then summoned his Keyblade.
The heart of light had not yet died out.

Xehanort Report 11
:I would remove the darkness from his heart and split him in two. Then I would have my heart of pure light, and my heart of pure darkness.
Ventus and Vanitas.
Even now, the power of the light heart and the power
of the dark heart have yet to reach a balance; because
of which, I must raise the two separately.
Vanitas' darkness will consume Ven.

There is but one place suitable for raising a heart of light;
Xehanort's Report X
the home of Eraqus's who believes that the light is absolute.
::Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report X after defeating Vanitas at the Keyblade Graveyard.
:As was to be expected, Ventus lacked the constitution for such an ordeal. I was able to remove the darkness inside him and create Vanitas, a heart of pure darkness, but Ventus drifted into the clutches of sleep.

Paying no heed to the dispute we still have,
:Ventus's heart of pure light and Vanitas's heart of pure darkness... If both could be made strong enough to one day clash, I knew the χ-blade would be forged.
Eraqus was overjoyed to start again and he even took
Ven under his wing quite willingly.
All I need to do now is wait for Ven's heart to grow
strong at Eraqus's place.

It had been a while since I been to my second home,
:But Vanitas took too much of Ventus's heart, and from that fracture, I could see the last of Ventus's light was slipping away. The boy deserved a place to spend his final moments peacefully. And what should come to mind but my own boyhood home.
and Eraqus had already raised two pupils of his own.
In addition, I could feel what lie dormant inside one of his pupils, Terra.
More than just being gentle, Terra was seeking power.
His attachment to power will soon cause darkness to be born within his heart.

My new vessel had been decided.
:My legs took me there unbidden, and as I stood there on the same beach where I had made my choice so many years ago, I thought: not a single thing has changed. Here, in this quiet world, time marches in place. Content that Ventus would find peace here, I started to walk away—but just then, the boy held up his Keyblade. The light within him had not died.

Xehanort Report 12
Xehanort's Report XI
The time has come.
::Terra obtains Xehanort's Report XI after defeating Terra-Xehanort at the Keyblade Graveyard.
I have just received word of the Master Acknowledgment
:Ventus and Vanitas were not matched in power; I could not train them together, or Vanitas's darkness would gnaw away what little Ventus had left.
from Eraqus.
Terra and Aqua...
Beckoning those two to go venture to other worlds is a simple matter,
but what about Ventus....?

Vanitas can feel Ventus' heart.
:Of course, since I needed a place where the boy's light might flourish, the answer was obvious: Eraqus, and his absolutes.
According to Vanitas, the key to Ventus's
is the one called Terra.
Almost immediately after Ventus began his training,
Terra gave him his wooden sword.
Since then, it seems he has adored Terra like an older brother.
In other words, the one who can shake Ventus's heart is Terra.

First I need to make Terra isolated.
:Considering how we had parted ways, I expected friction—but if anything, Eraqus seemed delighted to see me again. He readily agreed to take care of Ventus. Now I need only wait for the boy's heart to get stronger.
I will then instill that uneasiness in Ventus.
In doing that I will force the weak light to face the darkness
and chase after the elder brother, Terra.

Strong darkness will make the light stronger.
:I had not visited this second home of mine for some time, and discovered Eraqus had already found two pupils of his own. Within one of them, Terra, I sensed something. The boy, though well-intentioned, seeks power single-mindedly. And that kind of hunger is a seedbed for darkness.
Strong light will make the darkness stronger.
With this, everything will intersect and the legend will return.spoilerend

:Vanitas can feel some of what Ventus feels, and he says Terra is the key. Ventus has loved Terra like a real brother ever since he let him keep his old wooden Keyblade. It seems we have found a loose thread at which we can tug to unravel Ventus's heart.

:The first step is to get Terra alone; then we need to plant the seeds of doubt in Ventus. Let him carry his faint light as he chases his brother into the darkness.

Secret Ansem's Report KHII.png

Xehanort's Report is a multi-page report written by Master Xehanort, whose pages are scattered throughout the worlds of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Every report in the game must be collected before the player can unlock the Final Episode, though each page can only be obtained by a specific character. Like Ansem's Reports, the full text of Xehanort's Report is listed within the hero's journal.

Xehanort's Letter

Ventus obtains Xehanort's Letter after leaving the Land of Departure.

Take care. I eagerly await our long overdue reunion.

Xehanort's Report I

Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report I from a chest on the Launch Deck at Deep Space.
Much time has passed since I left the home of my youth behind, and in the myriad worlds I have since visited, I have gained much knowledge. On these pages, I intend to record a portion of that knowledge, and put the course of my life to paper.
Upon reflection, my life underwent the most considerable sea-change when I arrived at that place. Yes, it began when I found a Master, and another I would later call my brother—when I found a new home.
Then there was the Keyblade. For what purpose was it begotten, and by whom? During my training as one of its wielders, the precepts offered a clear answer: the Keyblade existed so that we who watched over the light could protect the world from the shadows.
But was that the TRUE answer? Could there not be more to it than that? My heart sought knowledge, and so I sometimes visited other worlds—though such travel was forbidden unless duty required—and found what my heart sought.

Xehanort's Report II

Terra obtains Xehanort's Report II after defeating Braig at Radiant Garden.
Our Master instructed us to don armor while traveling between worlds, so that we might shield ourselves from the darkness. But there, in the Lanes Between, I could feel the force of it—the power—and from then on, I forwent my armor's "protection." I had been told the darkness would devour me, but what terrors could it possibly hold, so long as I found the strength to control it?
The World is vast—and the worlds within the greater World, uncountable. Like little islands, they dot a great Ocean Between which keeps them ignorant of each other, uncorrupted.
Each world had its own order. Unlike us, they could not know of the World in its entirety, and we were never to enlighten them.

Xehanort's Report III

Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report III from a chest in Merlin's House at Radiant Garden.
In ancient times, no such buffers kept the larger World divided; there were no walls of light enclosing each smaller world the way they do today. Nothing prevented one from physically interfering with the next.
At that time, the World was filled with light, and a great many Keyblade wielders. But without buffers, the worlds began to squabble over ownership of the light. You see, they learned of the Keyblade's true use. War broke out as each of the Keyblade wielders struggled to lay claim to an almighty entity known as Kingdom Hearts.
Kingdom Hearts could be described as an aggregate of hearts. Worlds, too, have hearts, just like people; each world's heart is concealed from sight, beyond a hidden door. By gathering all the hearts of all the worlds in a single place, one may complete Kingdom Hearts.

Xehanort's Report IV

Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report IV after speaking with Yen Sid at the Mysterious Tower.
And when Kingdom Hearts is complete, it is said the one who opens its door will bring about the creation of the Next World. Such a feat is above any human. Or, to put it a different way: whoever opens that door will be reborn as something far greater than human.
Light and darkness are two sides of the same coin; without darkness, there is no light.
That was how the ancient Keyblade War drew to a close. To this day, no one has ever managed to open the door to Kingdom Hearts.
Some time later, the little light that remained in the hearts of the few gave rise to the World we know today: one made of many worlds behind just as many walls, so that the Keyblade War would not be repeated.

Xehanort's Report V

Terra obtains Xehanort's Report V after completing Sinister Sentinel at the Mirage Arena.
At present, the lanes and corridors that run between the worlds may only be traversed by us Keyblade wielders, and those who have given themselves over to darkness.
As the former, our duty is to cross the chasms between worlds and guard against the latter, whose darkness corrupts and contaminates, so that no world need ever be lost again.
Few Keyblade wielders remain now; I have heard of but a handful of others outside my circle. But the World is vast, and more of our kind may be out there.
Now, in addition to the realm of light in which we reside, there is also a realm of darkness, and the realm between which connects the two. The realm of darkness is most forbidden; I am told none who set foot there have ever returned.

Xehanort's Report VI

Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report VI after defeating Maleficent at Enchanted Dominion.
There are three families of Keyblades: the Keyblades of light we wield, Keyblades of darkness, and Keyblades of heart.
The first and second families differ only in origin; Keyblades of darkness are found in the realm of darkness, and are counterparts to the Keyblades we use in the realm of light.
The third type of key, the Keyblade of heart, came into existence when the World was reorganized after the Keyblade War. Without this key, Kingdom Hearts is forever beyond a person's reach. Only by gathering together seven hearts of pure light—hearts completely devoid of darkness—may one forge a Keyblade of heart and open the door to Kingdom Hearts.
And, as stated before, opening this door arguably gives that person control over all worlds and all people.

Xehanort's Report VII

Aqua obtains Xehanort's Report VII after defeating Ventus-Vanitas at Keyblade Graveyard.
I have uncovered the Keyblade's ultimate mystery. You see, besides the three families of Keyblades, there is another "Key Blade." While it may sound the same when spoken, it is notated uniquely: "χ-blade." And make no mistake, while it resembles a normal Keyblade, it is something altogether different.
Keyblades are said to be man-made counterparts to Kingdom Hearts. The χ-blade, however, coexists with Kingdom Hearts.
It is only forged when two hearts of equal power intersect—one heart of pure darkness, one heart of pure light.
If so, the walls that divide the worlds today are of little consequence. With the χ-blade, all their hearts could be instantly reunited—and the Keyblade War, refought.

Xehanort's Report VIII

Terra obtains Xehanort's Report VIII after defeating Master Eraqus at the Land of Departure.
My brother pupil Eraqus thinks only in absolutes.
Eraqus and I did not see eye to eye. I left, and wandered the World. This was perhaps the first time I felt truly free since that day I departed my boyhood home. But free to do what? I had already shown the Mark and become a Keyblade Master—but having been passed over as Successor, all that remained to me was the road of teacher.
Ordinarily, Keyblade Masters take pupils under their wings, malleable minds in which to impress the precepts of the Keyblade wielder and keep our profession alive for generations to come. Was my time drawing to an end, then, after all I had accomplished since casting away the place of my birth? Surely waiting for a quiet death would not do, not when there was still so much I needed to see for myself. Powers help me, I thought, my body is so old...

Xehanort's Report IX

Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report IX after leaving Destiny Islands.
We Keyblade Masters have a special gift. We can extract a heart, be it our own or that of another. By continuing this cycle, it is possible to remain in the world of the living forever.
As a boy, I dreamed of seeing the farthest reaches of the World. If I only went far enough, there had to be a world out there in which no one had ever before set foot. And now I know of just such a world. If I become the first to open Kingdom Hearts' door, I can create a Next World in which light and darkness exist in perfect equilibrium.
So there I stood, with vast knowledge in one gnarled, dying hand, and newfound purpose in the other. The next step was clear: I needed a new vessel.
And that was when I met Ventus and made him my pupil. We were destined to meet, and I could sense the potential within him, but the boy was too benign for his own good. I came to the conclusion he was too frail to serve as a vessel, and decided to use him for a second purpose I had in mind.
I would remove the darkness from his heart and split him in two. Then I would have my heart of pure light, and my heart of pure darkness.

Xehanort's Report X

Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report X after defeating Vanitas at the Keyblade Graveyard.
As was to be expected, Ventus lacked the constitution for such an ordeal. I was able to remove the darkness inside him and create Vanitas, a heart of pure darkness, but Ventus drifted into the clutches of sleep.
Ventus's heart of pure light and Vanitas's heart of pure darkness... If both could be made strong enough to one day clash, I knew the χ-blade would be forged.
But Vanitas took too much of Ventus's heart, and from that fracture, I could see the last of Ventus's light was slipping away. The boy deserved a place to spend his final moments peacefully. And what should come to mind but my own boyhood home.
My legs took me there unbidden, and as I stood there on the same beach where I had made my choice so many years ago, I thought: not a single thing has changed. Here, in this quiet world, time marches in place. Content that Ventus would find peace here, I started to walk away—but just then, the boy held up his Keyblade. The light within him had not died.

Xehanort's Report XI

Terra obtains Xehanort's Report XI after defeating Terra-Xehanort at the Keyblade Graveyard.
Ventus and Vanitas were not matched in power; I could not train them together, or Vanitas's darkness would gnaw away what little Ventus had left.
Of course, since I needed a place where the boy's light might flourish, the answer was obvious: Eraqus, and his absolutes.
Considering how we had parted ways, I expected friction—but if anything, Eraqus seemed delighted to see me again. He readily agreed to take care of Ventus. Now I need only wait for the boy's heart to get stronger.
I had not visited this second home of mine for some time, and discovered Eraqus had already found two pupils of his own. Within one of them, Terra, I sensed something. The boy, though well-intentioned, seeks power single-mindedly. And that kind of hunger is a seedbed for darkness.
I had found my vessel.

Xehanort's Report XII

Ventus obtains Xehanort's Report XII from a chest in the Seat of War at the Keyblade Graveyard.
The time has come. I have received word from Eraqus that his pupils are to become true Keyblade Masters. Terra and Aqua... They will be easy now to lure into the outside world. But Ventus! I will get nowhere without him.
Vanitas can feel some of what Ventus feels, and he says Terra is the key. Ventus has loved Terra like a real brother ever since he let him keep his old wooden Keyblade. It seems we have found a loose thread at which we can tug to unravel Ventus's heart.
The first step is to get Terra alone; then we need to plant the seeds of doubt in Ventus. Let him carry his faint light as he chases his brother into the darkness.
Let the darkness make his light stronger, then let the light deepen the darkness. And where the two finally meet is where the stuff of legends will become real.
