—Dive to the Heart

The Dream Shield is a weapon which appears in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. It appears within Sora, Roxas, and Data-Sora's Dive to the Heart, alongside the Dream Sword and Dream Rod. These three weapons represent the paths that Sora, Roxas, and Data-Sora can take — the path of the warrior, the guardian, or the mystic. As the weapon of the guardian, the Dream Shield focuses on defense and avoids strength, and if Sora or Roxas choose it, they will learn their defensive abilities at lower levels. Additionally, Sora will eventually gain two extra Item Slots. Data-Sora will gain a Round Blitz command if he chooses the Dream Shield, and a Sliding Dash command if he gives it up.

If Sora chooses the Dream Shield in Kingdom Hearts, he will use it as a weapon throughout his Dive to the Heart. Like the Dream Sword and Dream Rod, it will disappear at the end of the dream. In contrast, if Roxas or Data-Sora chooses the Dream Shield in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, it will immediately transform into his Kingdom Key.

In Kingdom Hearts, after obtaining each of the seven spell Arts, Merlin will reward Goofy's progress with the Dream Shield. Goofy can also equip this shield within Mission Mode in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Design[edit]

The Dream Shield has a simple design. It is pentagonal and its bottom three corners are rounded. It has a red border and the top and bottom two corners all sport a silver bolt or pin. Most of the face of the shield is black, save for the prominent Hidden Mickey symbol in the center. This symbol is red and has a pale yellow outline.

Gameplay[edit]

Goofy can wield this weapon in Mission Mode within Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days by equipping the Zero Gear. The ground combo consists of a series of continuous 360° spins, followed by dive forward. If one presses Y during one of the spins, Goofy will dive forward sooner. The aerial combo consists of a downward slash with the bottom of the shield followed by Goofy doing a backflip, jumping on the shield, and driving it downward.
