The group is puzzled as to how they can be in Traverse Town, yet still in Castle Oblivion. Reminiscing of their previous time spent here, the group begins exploring the town. Suddenly, the group is ambushed by a group of Shadows. The trio struggle against the Heartless, as they have forgotten their previous fighting abilities. Leon soon arrives, easily defeating the Heartless. Sora warmly greets Leon, only to learn Leon has no recollection of the group. Thinking this is a joke, Sora hounds Leon with their past history, with Leon accidentally calling Sora by name. Despite this new breakthrough, Leon is unable to remember anything else. Yuffie shows up, saying Aerith's hunch was right. Like Leon, Yuffie is only able to remember the heroes's names. Before taking the group to the others, Leon teachs Sora how to fight again. Also, Yuffie comments that while she does not remember the group in her memory, her heart remembers them.
At the Small House, the party reunites with Cid and Aerith. While eating, Aerith concludes that Sora's memories affect his friend's memories. Sora tells the others about Castle Oblivion and how they made it to Traverse Town. Yuffie dismisses the claim, commenting that there are no castles in the town. Afterwards everyone splits up to help Sora search for Riku and the King. Unable to find either of the two, Sora bids farewell to Leon and the others. Just before Sora leaves, Aerith warns Sora of his memories, claiming he must beware of the illusions that could distract him from what is most important.
Back in Castle Oblivion, the group finds themselves on the second floor. Here they run into the mysterious figure from before. The figure tells Sora that everything he just experienced was nothing more than an illusion created from his memories. The figure claims that in order to find what is most precious, Sora must pursue his hidden memory. The figure prepares to attack the group, only to be interrupted by another cloaked figure. This new figure insists that he will test Sora. The previous figure consents, tossing a card to the new one before leaving. The remaining figure introduces himself as Axel, summoning his chakrams.
In a different room, a young girl is shown alone, sketching.
