Olympus Coliseum is a world introduced in Kingdom Hearts based on the Disney feature film Hercules. It has appeared in more Kingdom Hearts games than any other world. The Coliseum is stated to be in Greece, atop Mount Olympus, where Zeus is the ruler, while Hades runs the Underworld beneath. The Coliseum itself is an invention of the games; only the Underworld actually appears in the film.

The world is expanded into Olympus in Kingdom Hearts III.

Settings and Areas[edit]

Kingdom Hearts[edit]

The Coliseum Gates

In Kingdom Hearts, Olympus Coliseum consists of three areas: the Coliseum Gates (コロシアム前 Koroshiamu Mae?, lit. "Colosseum Anterior") where Sora and his party enter, the Coliseum: Lobby (ロビー Robī?, lit. "Lobby") where Phil briefs contestants and keeps the cups of the winners, and The Coliseum (コロシアム Koroshiamu?) itself, where the party competes against various combinations of Heartless, villains, and other characters in the game. The Coliseum has rows of seat on each side with the arena itself being a square in the middle, having four massive pillars in each corner. These, as well as the square, will during certain battles be removed allowing for free access to the entire area. During the Platinum Match and later portions of the Hades Cup the squared arena space will be expanded into a long octagon, with eight, white and tall tree trunk-like structures in each corner.

Inside of the Lobby is a big stone block which can be pushed to the side once Sora learns Trinity Push. Doing so reveals the world's Keyhole.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Sora and party comes across a memory version of Olympus Coliseum inside of Castle Oblivion. The world is explored through boxed-in areas inspired by the world's general aesthetics. In cutscenes, areas such as the Coliseum Gates, the Coliseum: Lobby, and the The Coliseum are visited, with the last one serving as a boss arena.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Hades's Chamber

In Kingdom Hearts II, the world receives a major expansion with the inclusion of the Underworld, which can be accessed through the Coliseum Gates (コロシアム:入口広場 Koroshiamu: Iriguchi Hiroba?, lit. "Coliseum: Entry Square"). The Underworld Entrance (冥界入口 Meikai Iriguchi?) connects the living world to the world of the dead, as well as holding the world's Moogle Shop, a save point, and The Underdrome (冥界闘技場 Meikai Tōgijō?, lit. "Underworld Arena") where Sora can talk to Pain and Panic to gain access to the tournaments there. From there, two paths into the Underworld branch off. The first branch that Sora and his friends can explore leads to Hades's domain through the Cave of the Dead (亡者の洞窟 Mōja no Dōkutsu?). Beginning at the Entrance (入口 Iriguchi?) the party travels down the narrow and meandering Passage (通路 Tsūro?) before reaching the relatively safe Inner Chamber (最深部 Saishinbu?). From there, the party traverses the ledges and cliffs of the Valley of the Dead (亡者の谷 Mōja no Tani?) before reaching Hades' Chamber (ハデスの間 Hadesu no Ma?).

Later in the story, the second path opens and allows the group to enter the Underworld Caverns (冥界の大空洞 Meikai no Dai Kūdō?, lit. "Great Cavity of the Underworld"). After going down through the Entrance (入口 Iriguchi?), the party travels through The Lost Road (迷いの道 Mayoi no Michi?), which in turn leads to the Atrium (広間 Hiroma?, lit. "Hall"). After an encounter with Demyx, the party passes through to The Lock (封印の間 Fūin no Ma?, lit. "Chamber of the Seal"), where they can access the Well of Captivity (囚われの間 Toraware no Ma?, lit. "Room of Captivity") to fight Pete and rescue Meg.

The Olympus Coliseum itself initially remains the same as it was in the first game. The Coliseum Gates will take Sora to the Coliseum Foyer (コロシアム:ロビー Koroshiamu: Robī?, lit. "Coliseum: Lobby") where all the trophies he's previously won will still be on display. Passing further through will take Sora back to The Coliseum (コロシアム Koroshiamu?) where he can train with Phil. After a battle with the Hydra resulting in the Olympus Coliseum's destruction, only the Coliseum Gates will be accessible. The area's walls are broken on each side, with the statues being completely decimated and its pieces spread across the room. The Coliseum Foyer is reduced to nothing but rubble which leaves clear of The Coliseum. Certain elements from the foyer has been saved and placed on rocks outside, such as Sora's trophies and Phil's rule board.

During the credits the Olympus Coliseum are seen to be fully restored to its former self.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Olympus Coliseum is almost exactly the same as in Kingdom Hearts. Roxas arrives at the Coliseum Gates, renamed Outside the Coliseum (コロシアム前 Koroshiamu Mae?, lit. "Front of the Coliseum"), during his missions, and heads into the Coliseum Foyer, now renamed Coliseum Vestibule (ロビー Robī?, lit. "Lobby"). The room appears to be a lot bigger than it previously was. The world's final area is the The Coliseum (コロシアム Koroshiamu?), where various games and mini-games take place.

Needs map variations for the barrel and tournament sections. The game glitches and makes me unable to attack when I have a party member for some reason.

Kingdom Hearts coded[edit]

One of the Layers found within the world's Keyhole.

In Kingdom Hearts coded, the data version of Olympus Coliseum found within the Datascape is similar to that of previous games, but with the addition of the data world's Keyhole now being explorable. Data-Sora arrives Outside the Coliseum (広場 Hiroba?, lit. "Square"), and heads immediately to the Vestibule (ロビー Robī?, lit. "Lobby"). There the Keyhole can be accessed, taking Data-Sora to the Labyrinth which is divided into thirty floors, called Layers (LAYERS?), with multiple Save Rooms (セーブエリア Sēbu Eria?, lit. "Save Area") spaced out between them. After Data-Sora completes Layer 01-05, he unlocks Layer 06-15; after those are completed, he unlocks Layer 16-30. The Layers are maze like rooms, and the room structure for Layer 01-05 are repeated for the subsequent Layers.

Layer 05 - as well as Layer 15, 25, and 30 - start of in a tiny room behind some gates. Passing through the gate leads to a long bridge, which ultimately takes Sora, Hercules, and Cloud, to a huge arena, surrounding by a dark sky patterned like the Bug Blox.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, the world is once again similar to how it's been in previous installments. The only new area is the Town Near Thebes (テーベの町 Tēbe no Machi?, lit. "Town of Thebes"), the place where Ventus and Terra arrive in the world, which leads to the Coliseum Gates (入口広場 Iriguchi Hiroba?, lit. "Entrance Square), where Aqua arrives. From there the Vestibule (ロビー Robī?, lit. "Lobby") can be accessed, where Ventus, Terra, and Aqua will be available to partake in the Break the Urns mini-game with Hercules. The mini-game, as well as two cups and several battles, take place within the Coliseum, now renamed Arena (西/東 Nishi/Azuma?, lit. "West / East").

Kingdom Hearts χ[edit]

The Depths within the Underworld Caverns.

The Player will arrive at the Coliseum Entrance (コロシアム入り口広場 Koroshiamu Iriguchi Hiroba?, lit. "Coliseum Entrance Square"). Going through the large doors on the right brings the Player to the Coliseum (コロシアム内部 Koroshiamu Naibu?, lit. "Inside the Coliseum"), which has five variations; one of which being the Coliseum in ruins.

Later in the story the Player is granted access to the Underworld, and first arrives at Underworld Entrance (冥界・入口 Meikai: Iriguchi?, lit. "Underworld: Entrance"). To the right of the Underworld Entrance lies the Cave of the Dead: Entrance (亡者の洞窟・入口 Mōja no Dōkutsu: Iriguchi?), an area with a twisted path, and walls shaped like dark bones. Beyond the area lies the Cave of the Dead: Inner Chamber (亡者の洞窟・最深部 Mōja no Dōkutsu: Sai Shinbu?, lit. "Cave of the Dead: Depths"), which further leads to the Valley of the Dead (亡者の谷 Mōja no Tani?). At the end of the valley lies Hades' Chamber (ハデスの間 Hadesu no Ma?).

The left side of the Underworld Entrance leads to the Underworld Caverns: Entrance (冥界の大空洞・入り口 Meikai no Dai Kūdō: Iriguchi?), which is a broken-off path, elevating high above the ground. Further traversal leads to the Underworld Caverns: Midway (冥界の大空洞・中間 Meikai no Dai Kūdō: Chūkan?), and ultimately to the Underworld Caverns: Depths (冥界の大空洞・最深部 Meikai no Dai Kūdō: Sai Shinbu?), where dead souls can be found.

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts χ[edit]

When Player first enters Olympus Coliseum, Philoctetes hears them approaching and assumes that they're someone else. Once Phil realizes his mistake, he tells Player that he has no business with them and that they should leave. Suddenly, Hercules runs in and is scolded by Phil for being late, when Hercules asks who Player is, Phil says that he has no idea, but suggests that perhaps Player is another candidate looking to join in the tournament. Instead, Hercules suggests that Player enters on his behalf, prompting Phil to ask what Hercules is up to, only for Hercules to whisper to Phil that he's acting on a hunch and that there's something he has to do right now, so he's leaving it all to Phil for the time being. Though disappointed, Phil accepts this and assumes that Hercules must know what he's doing, promising to take care of Player. Hercules thanks Phil and tells Player that Phil will take care of them, mentioning that he's sure Player will become a great hero too, before leaving. After Player win the Preliminaries, they gain a new power with the Keyblade and immediately rush over to Daybreak Town to report back to Chirithy.

Upon their return to Olympus Coliseum, Player is approached by Phil and Cloud, asking if the tournament is just some kind of game to Player. Cloud states that Player has no reason to win the tournament, and has been fighting without a real sense of seriousness over the situation. Confused, Phil asks what Cloud is talking about, only for Cloud to claim that he intends on winning the tournament. Phil tells Cloud that he doesn't know what he's talking about, as Player has potential, and might even become a hero. Though this doesn't faze Cloud, who simply brushes it off and says that he couldn't care less before walking away.

After receiving word about the resumption of the tournament, Player makes their way to Olympus Coliseum once again to meet with Phil. Phil notes that Player looks even stronger than the last time they'd seen one another before guiding Player back into the arena to continue the tournament. Once Player has made their way through to the end of the semifinals facing Cloud, After defeating Cloud, Hercules notes that the tournament seems a little fishy. Hercules is able to surmise that Hades is behind the whole thing. Hades then appears and admits to having done what he's been accused of, before asking who their champion is. Hercules tells Hades that because he'd arrived before the match had been officially finished, they couldn't declare a winner and his contract is thereby invalid. Though Hades is furious, his mood lightens when Cloud asks to be taken to the Underworld. Phil and Hercules try to convince Cloud that he doesn't know what he's getting himself into, as the Underworld is the world of the dead that exists beneath Darkness itself. Surprisingly, Cloud seems to like the idea, feeling as though “he” would like that kind of place. With Cloud's persistence and interest in darkness, Hades accepts and takes Cloud to the Underworld. Hercules decides that he won't stand for this and that they have to save Cloud, which Phil agrees. Phil suggests that Player leave before they get too involved in the situation, Chirithy shows up to open a Gate to the Underworld.

In the Underworld, Player only to come to a dead-end when they find a tightly sealed door blocking the path. Returning to the Coliseum, Player tells Phil that they were unable to find Cloud. Player once again returns to the Underworld, where they find Hades, who voices his annoyance with Cloud for declining his offer, vowing to make Cloud suffer the next time he sees him. Hades then realizes Player's presence, asking what they were doing there before summoning Cerberus. After Player manages to defeat Cerberus, Hades tells Player that he never anticipated that they'd defeat Cerberus, and remarks how powerful they were. Hades encourage Player to gain more power they'd have to bind their will to the Darkness and to reach his Throne Room, he will tell him more. Player makes their way to Hades's Throne Room, where Hades says that he will teach Player how to access darkness. Player asks that Hades instead tell them where Cloud is. Hades intends on allowing Player to access their talent to its full capabilities. When Player asks how Hades intends on making that happen, Hades explains that all Player has to do is perform a few little tasks. After the series of tests, Player is still unable to harness the power of darkness, and so instead Hades tells Player to wait while he thinks up more tests.

When Player returns to the Underworld, Hades tells them to go through the gates at the entrance to the Underworld to the depths of the Underworld. Player finds Cloud, who claims not to have any more business in the Underworld, and Hercules runs in with the intention of leaving the Underworld with Cloud and Player. Hades arrives, having come to see what was taking so long. When Hercules insists that they're leaving, Hades battles the trio, sending Hercules away in a blast of black fire, while deciding to destroy the Coliseum. Cloud volunteers to buy some time for them, with Player making way for Hades's Throne Room, where they finds Hercules bound in black glowing chains. Using the power of the Keyblade, Player frees Hercules and together they rush to leave the Underworld and stop Hades at the Coliseum.

Player and Hercules find that most of the Coliseum has been destroyed, arriving just as Hade
