Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, stylized as Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue, is an HD remaster compilation of various games from the Kingdom Hearts series. It is a follow-up to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, and includes a full HD remastered version of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, entitled Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD as well as a follow up to Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, titled Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, which follows Aqua's journey in the Realm of Darkness. It also features an original HD cinematic movie related to Kingdom Hearts χ[chi], titled Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover.[1]

A brand new playable episode utilizing the Kingdom Hearts III base engine is present in the collection. It is set immediately after Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, while acting as a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III, in a story told through Aqua's perspective.[2]
