Dodge Roll (ドッジロール Dojji Rōru?) is a technique introduced in Kingdom Hearts. It allows the user to dodge attacks with a forward roll, during which they are invulnerable to enemy attacks. Leveling up increases the distance covered by the roll.

Mechanics[edit]

Sora using LV 3 Dodge Roll twice.

In Kingdom Hearts, Dodge Roll is a combat ability used by Sora. It is executed by pressing Square and pushing Left Stick in any direction, though Square can be tapped without a direction if Guard is not equipped. It costs 1 AP to equip.

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Dodge Roll is an innate movement ability that is executed by double-tapping the control pad in a direction during battle. In Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, it is executed by pressing Square and can also be used outside of battle.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Dodge Roll[1] is a Reaction Command.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Dodge Roll is also a growth ability that costs 3 AP to equip. It allows Sora to perform a combat roll by pressing Square. Leveling it up increases the distance of the roll. If Guard is equipped, Dodge Roll can only be executed by also tilting Left Stick, and if Quick Run is equipped, it can only be executed by quickly tapping Square.

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Dodge Roll is an ability panel that can be leveled up from Dodge Roll LV1 to Dodge Roll LV2 and Dodge Roll LV3 by linking Dodge Roll LV+ Ⓛ (ドッジアップⓁ Dojji Appu Ⓛ?, lit. "Dodge Up Ⓛ") panels, increasing invincibility time, rolling distance, and speed. Higher levels can also push enemies out of the character's path while rolling. It is triggered by pressing Y and a direction on the control pad.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Dodge Roll is a movement command exclusive to Ventus. It is activated by pressing Square and a direction on Left Stick, though Square can be tapped without a direction if a Block-type command is not equipped. It has a maximum level of 4.

In Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Dodge Roll is a Bonus Booster ability that can be leveled up from Dodge Roll Lv.1 to Dodge Roll Lv.2. It is triggered by pressing Y and holding a direction on the control pad, though Y can be tapped without a direction if a Block-type command is not equipped.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Dodge Roll is a movement command that is triggered by moving Circle Pad and pressing Y (Square in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD), though the button can be tapped without a direction if a Block-type command is not equipped. It can be used to initiate Flowmotion. Sora's version is identical to previous games, while Riku's is similar to his High-Speed Step in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories.

In Kingdom Hearts III, Dodge Roll is a mobility ability activated by pressing Square/X while moving.

In Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, some characters may execute a Dodge Roll to evade the cinematic attack after a Dark Zone in a boss battle. Depending on the player's performance in the Dark Zone, it may fail to activate, causing the player to take damage.
