Template:Enemy The Hockomonkey is a Dream Eater that appears in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It serves as the boss of Traverse Town and is fought by both Sora and Riku.
Design
The Dream Eater's name contains the Japanese words for "box" (箱 hako) and "monkey" (猿 saru). His appearance is based on a mandrill. The version that Riku fights, however, is also reminiscent of some stage magicians who wear shirts with flowy sleeves while performing. Template:Section-stub
Story
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
In the first visit to Traverse Town, Sora and Rhyme meet Neku top of a garden plaza in the 5th District. Neku apologizes to Sora for handing him over to the hooded figure. Sora accepts his apology then asks if Rhyme is his partner, to which Neku says she isn't. Rhyme then disappears just as the hooded figure appears. Neku tries to attack him but is smacked aside. The hooded figure summons the Hockomonkey before vanishing. Sora fights and manages to defeat it.
In Riku's incarnation of the town, he and Shiki encounter Young Xehanort in the 5th District, who taunts Riku. Beat appears and tells Riku that Xehanort posed as a Reaper and promised to return Shiki to her world if she delivered Riku to him. Xehanort takes off his hood and summons the Hockomonkey in its mage form before vanishing. Riku fights the Dream Eater and defeats it.
The Spellican summons the Hockomonkey during Sora's first encounter with it in Traverse Town during his second visit, but is destroyed and replaced with the wingless Wargoyle.

Sora's battle
Attacks
- Long Punch (ロングパンチ Rongu Panchi): The Hockomonkey's hands form into boxing gloves, its arms stretching over a long distance to punch Sora.
- Baboon Bash: A two-strike backhand attack.
- Mandrill Mallet: The Hockomonkey changes into a hammer and slams down on the battlefield. If the attack connects, The Hockomonkey will trap Sora in its head and pummel him with its boxing gloves.
- Box Bomb: The Hockomonkey withdraws its arms, legs, and head inside the box and follows Sora for a short time, before exploding.
- Upside-down Kick: The Hockomonkey turns its body upside-down and performs an inverted kick.
- Kick Dive: The Hockomonkey jumps off a wall and performs a midair charge in Sora's direction.
- Boxing Gloves: The Hockomonkey summons floating versions of its boxing gloves that home in on Sora.
- Simian Slam: After taking enough damage, The Hockomonkey slams the ground, sending itself and Sora inside the building, deals no damage.
As Hockomonkey serves as the first boss of Sora's story, it is an easy opponent. The Hockomonkey's attacks depend on what arms are currently in use. If its arms are "normal", then it mainly attacks with a two-strike backhand attack. It may also jump off a wall and charge at Sora in midair. Hockomonkey also attacks by turning its body upside down and kicking Sora.
When its arms switch to boxing gloves, Hockomonkey's attacks change. Hockomonkey now attacks by punching Sora from a distance. Sora can guard against this, or avoid the attack altogether by staying underneath Hockomonkey. Hockomonkey also utilizes an attack where it transforms its body into a hammer and slams the battlefield. If the attack connects, Hockomonkey will trap Sora in its head and pummel him with its boxing gloves. If the attack misses, Hockomonkey will be stunned momentarily. Occasionally, Hockomonkey will withdraw its arms and summon floating versions of its boxing gloves that will home in on Sora. This attack leaves Hockomonkey vulnerable for a few moments. Hockomonkey will sometimes withdraw its head, arms, and legs in its box, follow Sora for a few moments and then erupt with a shockwave, dealing damage if Sora is too close.
The safest way to attack Hockomonkey is with Flowmotion attacks. When prompted, Sora can use the Reality Shift Sling Shot, which will toss Hockomonkey and leave it stunned momentarily. As its HP dwindles, When its HP is reduced to a certain point, The Hockomonkey will jump and slam the ground, sending Sora and itself into the building, though it is possible to defeat the boss before this happens. After enough damage, the Hockomonkey will be defeated.
Riku's battle
Attacks
- Fireball: The Hockomonkey tosses three fireballs at Riku.
- Object Toss: The Hockomonkey disperses into four disembodied hands which then grab objects in the room and toss them at Riku.
- Claw Strike: The Hockomonkey's hands swipe at Riku.
- Boxing Gloves: The Hockomonkey summons boxing gloves that attack Riku from below.
Riku's battle with the Hockomonkey is slightly more difficult as the boss remains in midair for the entirety of the battle. The boss mainly attacks by tossing three fireballs at Riku. Midair and flowmotion attacks are the best way to attack the Hockomonkey. After enough damage the Hockomonkey disperses into four disembodied hands which must be destroyed to force the Hockomonkey to reform. Once it reforms, it will be stunned and vulnerable to either more attacks or a Reality Shift if prompted. As its HP dwindles, Hockomonkey begins using a new attack where it summons boxing gloves to attack Riku from below. After enough damage, the Hockomonkey will be defeated.
Secret Portal
The Hockomonkey's Secret Portal is located in the Garden. The boss has higher stats than in the first battle, so Second Chance and Leaf Bracer should be equipped, as well as homing commands like Balloonra or Balloonga. When it replaces itself with its four hands, attack them with the Balloon commands and the Kick Dive and Sliding Dive Flowmotion attacks. Sora and Riku should endeavor to keep in the air using Flowmotion when the hands punch them into the ground. Template:Section-stub
