Would someone mind providing a summary of how to navigate through the jail in the waterway please? I'm having trouble reaching a certain part there, and it might be helpful to others. Thanks.

I think some of the information here should be moved to radiant garden

Symbol Character - Mickey.png
FA icon.png Only the information regarding what's below the castle, surely... whatever is connected to the castle itself should be left in Hollow Bastion.

As for the waterway, I think I'll have to replay that section - and if I do, I'll post the solution here.

Isn't the list of enemies in Hollow Bastion incomplete ?[edit]

Symbol Character - Mickey.png
FA icon.png As far as I know, the Kingdom Hearts list of enemies in Hollow Bastion only covers Sora's first visit. It doesn't cover Sora's second visit (where there are Red Nocturnes and Large Bodies as well) or even the invisible, powered-up version of the Soldier Heartless which can be found in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix.

Can someone please add them in for me ? Because I've no idea how to edit the enemy list.

Thanks in advance.

what do you mean "and" i was just wondering if this could be hollow bastion.

Villain's Vale (and other things that want questioning) ?[edit]

TALK - I would be delighted to talk.
Does it seem to anyone else that Villain's Vale, not the castle shown in Kingdom Hearts II, was the world first shown under the name Hollow Bastion (which literally means "empty fortress")?

I immediately thought that the two were the same due to the circuitry forming the walls in the room in which Pete and Maleficent are shown to meet, for this same sort of apparatus appears behind the walls in Kingdom Hearts though I find myself contradicted by the clockwork pieces of the castle in the centre of town (as well as what appears to be something that could have been the entrance to the original world in the Kingdom Hearts II artwork) and the statement that Aerith makes regarding the original castle having been Ansem's castle (thereby implying that Ansem's study is in an inaccessible basement region).

While I am not asking that anything in the article be changed, I would like to hear some thoughts on the subject.

I am not really certain, but it appears as though it could very well be so for several reasons --

It is remarked where Maleficent used to reside. In the composition of its spires, it appears to be structurally similar to the original (though this case could also be made for the castle in the centre of town). The circuitry on the walls is similar. The Lift Stop, Library, Castle Chapel and Grand Hall are not present in the parts of Hollow Bastion accessible from the Postern. The foundations upon which the castles sit are different. The waterways are missing from the city part. The Castle Gates appear to lead nowhere.

I do believe, however, that the castle in the centre of town could be the original after sustaining significant structural damage, or after having both the pipes that dominated the left half of its façade as well as the large heartless emblem.

I would say that the case could be made for either structure being the original, or even for the original being some sort of world akin to Traverse Town that was composed of what remained of the original city and castle, as it appears as though the heartless have already taken the heart of the world, which is ostensibly restored alongside the Destiny Islands, among other places, alongside the vast lands of blue crystal.

This was also my first impression of what the Villains' Vale was intended to be, especially because Diablo and the restored Maleficent appear to operate from it rather than returning to her world of origin.

I may just be overstating a rather egregious error of internal consistency, the fact that Hollow Bastion looks drastically different in Kingdom Hearts II, including a massive change to the castle's structure, without any real explanation, though I really would like more thoughts on the subject.

Symbol Character - Mickey.png
FA icon.png I have a feeling that thing is what used to be Ansem the Wise's castle. The one which they were finally constructing (see the structural similarities ?) Also, it houses the place where Xehanort tore out his heart, and the artificial Keyhole. This coincides with the fact that Xehanort already sent the Heartless to open the Keyhole, see ?

Hmm, I suppose I see the similarity between the town centre castle -- I give you my thanks for pulling me out of that plothole.

The aesthetic dissimilarity between the two games is a bit disturbing, however.

I really cannot believe that I didn't think to replace the pipes (I suppose that in Kingdom Hearts III, if it ever comes about, the castle should be restored to its former splendour), though I was actually quite fond of them myself.

Regardless, I suppose this is one of few discrepancies of internal consistency within the series, though I suppose that Atlantica is really more cause for concern (though Hollow Bastion is my favourite world).

Unlike the rest of the Radiant Garden, which poses as Final Fantasys world, Hollow Bastion has no relation to Final Fantasy whatsoever.

Does this seem incorrect to anyone else?

Symbol Character - Mickey.png
FA icon.png HB = pure Kingdom Hearts. I wouldn't call it a relation to Final Fantasy unless there has been a similar manor in previous FF games. The entire design of the building coincides with Ansem's journal entries, and the Heartless emblem = even more Xehanort's Heartless. I'd call it Xehanort's building more than anything else. :P

It is a castle, so it does resemble some locations in Final Fantasy games, but it does appear to pose as the Final Fantasy world in Kingdom Hearts, being what remains of the homeworld of Leon, Yuffie and Aerith (as well as a part of the Radiant Garden).

It resembles other castles in that it is a castle (that was supposed to be perceived as a joke), though it does resemble some actual locations...
  • A castle in the opening FMV of Final Fantasy III DS
  • The castles appearing in Final Fantasy V Advance have similar brick colouring.
  • Hollow Bastion is also vaguely reminiscent of Artemisia's Castle in Final Fantasy VIII.

My argument was that this statement does not appear to be correct, by virtue of both the castle Hollow Bastion being a part of the larger world of the Radiant Garden, and that, in the original game, it does appear to stand in for the Final Fantasy world (as do Twilight Town and the Destiny Islands).

The plot hole[edit]

This is what I concider to be one of the biggest plot holes in Kingdom hearts: In the End of the World, Sora visits a small portion of each of the worlds depicled thoughout the game; In the one that is unmistakably Hollow Bastion, it is an area that was never seen before or after where a computer screen tells a strange and hard to understand story. Any way I just wanted to say that and see if anyone has an idea?

The blue part[edit]

Does anybody know the purpose and name of the blue underside of both Hollow Bastion and Radiant Garden? It's not a reflection as it appears in the original Kingdom Hearts world logo.--Digitor 16:46, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

I know that in the first KH, it serves as the environment for the waterways where it's all ice, as with the rising falls.

In KH2, or at least in FM, it serves as the Cavern(s) of Rememberance, along with the Garden of Assemblage(Technically located in the water-area surrounding the castle).

Merging[edit]

Void Gear (Vanitas) KHBBS.pngShouldn't this page be merged with the Radiant Garden page? It's the same world but it's called different in some games.
I agree. This article is supposed to be about the castle itself, not the World, but it's way too confusing like this, considering the entire World, not just the castle, went by the name "Hollow Bastion" at one point. It'd be far less confusing and simpler to just add a subheading to the Radiant Garden article about the castle itself if we really need one. Or maybe even a sub-article as seen with Master Xehanort and Young Xehanort. Fabala011 (talk) 22:29, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Hollow Bastion II[edit]

Shouldn't this just be merged with Data-Riku? We separate out the Dive to the Hearts from Destiny Islands and Twilight Town, and this is essentially the same thing. Either that, or its own "Inside (Data-)Riku" page."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 19:52, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Or just another page for Hollow Bastion II? TheFifteenthMember 20:14, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Hollow Bastion II is from the beginning of Inside Data-Riku through the Sora's Heartless boss battle. If you want to be technical, the only parts of Hollow Bastion featured in this part are the chapel (Maleficent boss battle) and Great Hall (lead-up to 3D shooter segment). --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 03:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
The reason I don't want to merge it with Data-Riku is we'd have another character-world confusion like Monstro. I'm fine with a page called Inside Riku, though I would still prefer the title to be Hollow Bastion II with an Inside Riku redirect. TheFifteenthMember 07:32, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
There's no confusion since they're identical, and this is basically the exact same situation as Monstro. It's easy enough to keep story on one page, game info on one or more others."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 02:35, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
So will we still keep Personality, Appearance and Ability sections? TheFifteenthMember 21:18, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Japanese Name[edit]

Yeah it's me again. Here Utsuronaru Shiro (虚ろなる城?) is the castle's name in Japanese and it is used in-game as map names. Should this be on the article and if yes, where? Pea14733 ---- [土] 03:19, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

I don't see why not...Perhaps a mention in the settings/area section? Xion4ever 03:23, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
I think it should go in the start of the page, just like the other Japanese names, like in abilities. --Sora TR Sprite KHII.png— Funest Gamer 03:25, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Merge?[edit]

I do have to wonder, when/where was it said that "Hollow Bastion" was the name of just the castle and "Radiant Garden" the name of the world. From my understanding from playing the games, I've never heard "Hollow Bastion" used as just the name of the castle. In fact, I've never heard that the castle alone has a name, to begin with. And when "Radiant Garden" is used as the world's name, the name "Hollow Bastion" isn't used. This implies that they're both used to refer to the same thing, the world. I believe/understand that Hollow Bastion was used after Maleficent took over the world, but that the true name of the world was Radiant Garden. Having used the name for ten years, Leon and the gang didn't remember the world's true name until Tron tells them in Kingdom Hearts II. Following that event, the name "Hollow Bastion" isn't used anymore. So shouldn't we merge the two articles, since the two names refer to the world? Unless there's some interview or report or something in-game that says the castle's name is Hollow Bastion, which I don't believe there is. Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.pngKeybladeSpyMaster Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.png 04:39, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

I think it roots from the fact that Hollow Bastion was just the castle alone in the first Kingdom Hearts game. You have wormed your way to the very nadir of repugnance. - Erry 07:48, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
I believe if there was a interview with T.N., that doubt would be exterminated, although, I agree with KeybladeSpyMaster. Hollow means empty, it became 'hollow' with the corruption of Maleficent's changes, It should have another name in its glory days. But, anyway, just my thoughts. Sora TR Sprite KHII.png— Funest Gamer 03:17, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
So then should we merge the articles? Because other than the limited area seen in the first game, there's little reason for Hollow Bastion to refer to exclusively the castle. Like I said, if Hollow Bastion were about the castle, the term would be used even when Radiant Garden was used as the world name. But it isn't; Hollow Bastion is used in Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, or following the reveal of the world's name in Kingdom Hearts II. In addition, a discussion higher up on this page brings to question whether the castle in Kingdom Hearts actually becomes the ruins that are Villains Vale in Kingdom Hearts II, which further discredits the idea that Hollow Bastion refers to just the castle. Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.pngKeybladeSpyMaster Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.png 04:31, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
Hollow Bastion includes the Library where Kari and her grandmother went. Ansem's Report 5 also claims that the world's Keyhole is located underneath the castle. The castle probably does have a different name before the fall, but right now we have a name for it by virtue of it being the sole contents of the KH1 world: Hollow Bastion. It's also a fairly massive article, so I wouldn't recommend a merge."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 00:41, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Passwords[edit]

"While the password to Ansem's D.T.D. dataspace is the names of the Seven Princesses of Heart, Xemnas's password to access the Chamber of Repose is the true names of Ansem the Wise's six apprentices: Xehanort, Even, Braig, Dilan, Ienzo, and Aeleus."

Isn't this depicted in the Final Mix cutscene?"We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 01:03, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Character Section[edit]

How should the character section on this page work exactly? Seeing as the page only focuses on events within the castle would we then add characters that have appeared only inside the castle? For example, in BbS we see Ansem the Wise, Ienzo, Braig, and Terra-Xehanort wander the corridors of the castle so they should be added, but Dilan, Even, and Aeleus are never seen within the castle in BbS so they shouldn't be added. Correct? - JTD95 (talk) 20:37, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

I think this page should only cover the castle in KH1, CoM, and Coded. In BbS the castle is just part of Radiant Garden. TheSilentHero 22:03, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
Great! But does that mean the KH2 section for Settings and Areas should be moved to Radiant Garden? - JTD95 (talk) 22:08, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
Right now we're treating Hollow Bastion as an area (like Christmas Town and the Underworld) of Radiant Garden. So by that logic we should keep the Settings and Areas and also a character section. However, it might be easier and clearer for readers and editors if we just use Hollow Bastion for KH1, CoM, and coded, and Radiant Garden for KH2, BBS, and KH3. TheSilentHero 18:17, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Dark Depths[edit]

Something that has been bothering me is about the Dark Depths (aka, the portal that has been in the Grand Hall of the Hollow Bastion), and that is... are the Dark Depths located somewhere within the Realm of Darkness or in the End of the World? I'm saying this since being called the Dark Depths it could mean as an artificial gateway towards the Realm of Darkness, but Behemoths, being emblem heartless, are not natural inhabitants of the Dark Realm. Does it's means is a gateway towards the End of the World? (since Behemoths are also encountered in there as well, plus the appearances of the orbs in the Valley of the Dark looks a lot like the Dark Depths from the portal).
