Counter Shield (カウンターシールド Kaunta Shīrudo?) is a Formchange in Kingdom Hearts III. It allows the user to transform the Keyblade into a shield, allowing for strong counters and throwing attacks.

Mechanics

In Kingdom Hearts III, Counter Shield is the Formchange of the Hero's Origin Keyblade, associated with Guardian Form. Its basic combo consists of Sora throwing the shield in an upwards horizontal strike before spinning the shield and dashing forward into enemies, then hurling the shield in a Strike Raid-esque fashion. The first combo finisher has Sora throw the shield in a circular fashion around himself, and the second has him raise the shield above himself as an electric forcefield surrounds him, then expands outward.

While in this Formchange, holding Square/X allows Sora to hold the shield in front of himself and walk around while doing so. Attacks that hit him in this state replace the Attack command with a reprisal- the first level being Wrathful Fist, which summons a giant fist from the shield, and the second being Wrathful Flurry, which summons a barrage of fists to attack the enemy. Wrathful Flurry has the shield glow yellow, while Wrathful Fist has the shield glow blue.

The Formchange finish command has Sora transform the Keyblade into a chariot pulled by an ethereal Pegasus. The Attack command is replaced by Thunder, allowing Sora to ride around the arena while casting bolts of lightning on any enemies present.
