Take me to your leader

Who is in charge of this? I am just asking, who changes it every month? Cause whoever it is, they are a bit late. Ultima The High Seraph 21:20, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it was late last month as well, shouldn't we have this done on the first day of the month? Guardian Soul 21:46, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

We should nominate somebody to be incharge of it. Ultima The High Seraph 21:49, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm all for that. Guardian Soul 21:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I've been doing it. I've just been a bit distracted, what with the new fiscal year and the troll and all that jazz. Thank you for reminding me, though. ^_^ BebopKate 05:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Make "Forms" its own category

LegoAlchemist - They changed "Snipe Magnet" to "Magnet Grab"? Who's translating this game, 4kids?
TALK - Friendships are in direct contravention of mercenary conduct as delineated in your contracts, and on a personal note: I am very, very, disappointed with you.
Vsymbol.png It doesn't seem to me like "Characters" covers things like Frankenstein form. Should we make a "Forms" category?

Well, looking at the mirage arena, Forms fit under the characters section. Should we not be consistent? KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png

Mirage arena came after Votes for Featured media. So we can change that if we have to. --VenCharm.pngLegoAlchemistVenCharm.png 03:36, September 3, 2010 (UTC)
Much like the Mirage Arena, we allow for all editors to enjoy taking part in selecting the next Featured Media. Akin to the Mirage Arena is the fact that we want diversity in these selections. To force this, we make past categories ineligible for two months, and also "merge" some categories. For example, locations images are classified as world images. Also, all images of a form are directly images of the a character, and can be classified as such. Creating another category just for what I believe will be this one instance is not a reason to make such a hasty decision. Also, a form category would hardly have enough images in it to be classified as such. --DTN Room Core.png 03:48, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Umm... what Doorsey said. ^_^ KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png

A simple "no" would be fine. But thanks anyway ^_~ --VenCharm.pngLegoAlchemistVenCharm.png 04:08, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Audio Samples

As DTN pointed out this month, many readers may not be able to listen to audio files. Since it is bound to win this month, should the rules be changed in the future to combat this problem? Oh, and DTN, if you read the rules on top, the boxart is still disqualified, as it still falls under the other two categories, technically. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON.

Again, no. "Boxart" is its own category under the Featured Media Gallery, which defines the categories that become ineligible and how images are classified. The BBSFM boxart is within the boundaries.
Other than that, I have never seen an audio clip featured on any wiki, the reason being that it is difficult for some viewers to enjoy it. The only solutions I can see are to eliminate audio clips altogether, with this month being an exception if so desired, or to set a limit on how many there can be each year. However, the latter will result in more audio clips being nominated and likely selected, which actually creates a larger issue. --DTN Room Core.png 00:10, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most browsers link users to the page wherein they can download the right audio plugin? Soxxeh 12:12am, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
I have the newest plugin installed in Firefox, but it won't work for me anyway. I only voted for the audio because I thought most other users could access it. --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 00:40, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
Apparently not, Silva. And DTN, I thought that just because something was in one category didn't mean that it couldn't be included in several others. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON.

Canvassing

I have born witness to a possible account of canvassing in the votes for the February 2011 Featured Media. OavatosDK persuaded the general Final Fantasy Wiki's large IRC community to support him. As a result, DrakeClawfang further canvassed in an odd reverse in manner, in which Drake arranged to vote for the Aqua picture in exchange for OavatosDK voting for the latter's nomination on an off-wiki poll. To me, this seems like an unfair exchange to both wikis. Now, months ago, we had the Room Core incident, which was stopped due to canvassing, as can be shown by the chewing-out by Miss BebopKate. If we stopped that image from being Featured Media due to canvassing of votes, we cannot allow an exception to the rule, especially when it was the exact same issue: using #FFWiki to "whore" for extra votes. This is certainly not the first time I have seen a link to this page asking for votes for the Aqua image on this channel either. Counting the nomination, at least two-thirds of the votes are from the FFWiki, and this is supposed to be our Featured Media. Not the trolls' and random followers' who want the image "for teh sexeh."

However, when I raised the concern on the #FFWiki IRC Channel, it was impossible to reach a conclusion, which I find may possibly be due to different interpretations of the term "canvassing"--just what is it? It can refer to many different types and deviations of "whoring for votes," bribery, and persuasion. If the community of this wiki could settle the issue here on what we are going to define as "canvassing," we can get this all sorted out properly. Thanks!

P.S. DISCLAIMER: I seriously, IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, bring this up due to my nomination lacking in votes. I honestly do not care who wins, as long as it remains a fair decision. And to clear up anything, all of the above message from me; everything posted so far in this section is by me. --DTN Room Core.png 06:25, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

I don't ususally vote for the Featured Media, but I'd define canvassing as a direct attempt to solicit votes for something; that is, asking users on their talk pages of the IRC to specifically vote for their nomination. Any sort of bribe or exchange is covered by that, and I specified it being direct for a reason. I don't see anything wrong with having a general message or link on the user's page saying "Hey, vote for what I nomiated". That's advertisement of the vote more than canvassing in my opinion.LapisLazuliScarab07:34, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

ODK asked no one specifically, I offered support and gave it. Frankly I would have supported that image for Featured anyway. A pity, DTN, you didn't post the rest of that conversation, where you lorded your authority over us with an "Admin Cap" and were a general ass about the matter. Got, I want an Admin Cap."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 15:03, January 19, 2011 (UTC)
I, for one, think it becomes canvassing when you start going to individuals. If you put up a message in the IRC to cast your vote for Featured Media, I don't see a problem, as long as you aren't pinging anyone. KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png
