Vanitas appears as a boss in Terra, Ventus, and Aqua's storylines in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. In Terra's storyline, he fights Vanitas and Master Xehanort at the same time, but the battle stops halfway. Ventus fights Vanitas in both the real world and the Awakening. Aqua fights Vanitas three times in the game: once at Neverland, once at Radiant Garden, and one last time alongside Mickey in the Keyblade Graveyard, where Vanitas wields the completed X-Blade.
