Vanitas appears as a boss in Terra, Ventus, and Aqua's storylines in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. In Terra's storyline he fight Vanitas and Master Xehanort at the same time, but the battle stops halfway. Ventus fights Vanitas in both the real world and the Awakening. Aqua fights Vanitas alongside Mickey, where Vanitas wields the completed X-Blade.
