OPXion4EverIcon.png I've been stalking reviewing the upload log and ran across a few .gif "images." I haven't seen any discussion against using .gif images, meaning its safe to assume that we plan on keeping them. If we plan to keep the images what will be the categorization and licensing? Most .gif images do not have categories or licensing, while ones that do vary between other .gif licenses/categories. I've created a test edit here for discussion. Note: It is a test edit and should be treated as such. Both licensing and categorization were guesses. If I was wrong in either section please correct/say so. However, should they be right I'll add them to other .gif images.

List of .gif Images

After reviewing the entire list I saw a few examples for licensing/categorizing, but a confirmed statement to clarify everything would be great. Thanks, much appreciated!

I don't mind animated gifs so long as they load in a decent amount of time and they're there for a good reason. If they're too big, though, they can cause pages to take forever to show up. Maybe we should set some kind of size limit, dimensional and space-wise, as well as an amount per page?

I think they should be at least 225px in width.

Mine loads pretty quickly, too, but I'm more thinking of visitors who might have slower computers/upload speeds. Some connections don't process animated gifs all that well.

In the case of gifs, the issue is not the dimensional size of the image, but the amount of data it has to load. And an optimal gif speed...that's I'm not sure of. Most of the gifs I've made are extremely small in size, so I wouldn't be the best judge.

To our resident wiki picture editor people: any recommendations on size, or how to keep gifs loading times down?

FA icon.png I believe the standard image size of 250px would do. Since animations only show when in "frame" mode, it's best to keep it small. 300px is just too big, 200px is just too small. And for these gifs alone, there are sometimes too many frames, but we still need them nonetheless.
