The '''Wooden Sword''' is a weapon introduced in ''{{c|Kingdom Hearts|game}}''. It is wielded by [[Sora]] and [[Riku]] at [[Destiny Islands]], and again by Sora at [[Hollow Bastion]] when Riku takes the Keyblade. In ''[[Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep]]'', [[Ventus]] uses his own Wooden Sword as a practice weapon before [[Terra]] gives him the [[Wooden Keyblade]].

Ventus uses a Wooden Sword as his practice weapon in the [[Land of Departure]]. At this point, its blade has many nicks and dents in it from practice fighting. Noticing the damage, [[Terra]] bestows Ventus with his [[Wooden Keyblade]] as a replacement and encourages him by pointing out that the dents show improvement.

===''Kingdom Hearts''===
On Destiny Islands, Sora and Riku would often use Wooden Swords to spar against each other, or against [[Tidus]], [[Wakka]], and [[Selphie]]. They would pass the time on their tiny island with friendly matches against each other—Sora and Riku even having a friendly rivalry.

During the destruction of the islands, Sora attempts to stave off the [[Heartless]] with his Wooden Sword while making his way to Riku and [[Kairi]], but has no effect on the [[Shadow]]s. When he and Riku are engulfed in darkness, Sora receives the [[Kingdom Key]] [[Keyblade]], which he then uses until he arrives in [[Hollow Bastion]].

Riku appears to have kept his Wooden Sword after his arrival at Hollow Bastion, even after receiving the [[Soul Eater]] from [[Maleficent]]. When Sora arrives in Hollow Bastion, he and Riku have a brief standoff before Riku claims Sora's Keyblade for himself. Riku then tosses his Wooden Sword to Sora, taunting him to go and play hero with it instead.

With the help of the [[Beast]], Sora makes his way into the Entrance Hall of Hollow Bastion, where he and Riku have another showdown. Sora's bonds of friendship allow him to reclaim his Keyblade. The Wooden Sword's whereabouts afterwards are unknown.

==Design==
The Wooden Sword is essentially a toy, crudely made from pieces of wood to resemble a sword. Ventus's Wooden Sword is identical in design to Sora and Riku's, except it has a darker color scheme and its blade is dented from practice fighting.

The Wooden Sword is easily the weakest weapon in the first game, and possibly the weakest in the entire series, with its only rivals being the [[Struggle Bats]] in ''[[Kingdom Hearts II]]'' and the [[Wooden Stick]] in ''[[Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days]]''. Despite Sora's adept swordplay, melee strikes with the sword have next to no effect on the Heartless whatsoever, although he can still use it as a medium for magic if he knows any.
