I feel the need to update the article surrounding Master Xehanort and Young Xehanort; I want to explain why.

Young Xehanort time travelled to the future before he left Destiny Islands and before he became a Keyblade Wielder. He explains in DDD that his time travel memories being etched onto is heart is what led him to want to leave Destiny Islands in the first place. Even the Kingdom Hearts Series Memorial Ultimania and the Kingdom Hearts III Character Files books all state he left Destiny Islands after returning from his time travelling. Despite the statements we have from Young Xehanort himself and from Nomura and the Ultimanias, everyone knows believes Young Xehanort time travelled after he left the islands, after the events of Dark Road. I talked about this with someone on Reddit and they say that Young Xehanort time travelling before he left the islands is the true, official plot point. What does everyone else think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Master O (talk • contribs)

Without a doubt, the time-traveling Xehanort we see in KH3 is from a time after his training at Scala. Xehanort has two different designs in his youth: one for Destiny Islands and Scala, one for the 1-4 years time skip post Dark Road. (Pay attention to the hair, mostly:)
Noruma said in no unclear terms that the Dark Road models show the correct versions.
Question 1: In past titles, we saw a different-looking Young Xehanort than the one in the Destiny Islands [cutscenes] (seen in Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance)…is there an explanation for that?
Nomura: Dark Road shows the correct model. At the time of the production of [Birth by Sleep], the appearance of a young man was prepared, but the appearance of a boy was not because of budgetary constraints when it came to 3D modeling.
At the time of Dream Drop Distance and the Memorial Ultimania, I fully believe you are correct - the intention was that Xehanort time traveled, came back to Destiny Islands, then left for the first time. However, when the concept of Scala was invented and Xehanort's past expanded in KH3 and Dark Road, the team went out of their way to remodel island Xehanort to be younger than his time-traveling version. It's messy, no doubt, but I can't see any way around the fact that the current portrayal of time-traveling YX is from a post-Scala age, even if that contradicts pre-2018 sources. —Aid1043 21:34, September 24, 2026 (UTC)
