Medals are one of the most important gameplay element in Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ since they are used to increase the player's Strenght and Defense, providing passive and active Special Attacks.

Story

Medals are the physical manifestation of power from the future, drawn by the Book of Prophecies.

Medal Types

Medals are divided into Attack medals, EXP medals, Boost medals, Cost medals, Evolve medals, and Munny medals and can be categorized by rarity depending on the medal Special Attack Bonus.

Attack Medals are the only ones that can be equipped into Keyblades and they will determine the player's attack and defense values. There are three types of Attack medals: Power (パワー Pawā?), Speed (スピード Supīdo?), and Magic (マジック Majikku?), each with a different set of abilities and preferred by certain Keyblades, increasing their attack values momentarily. A full attack deck consists of 5 Attack medals.

EXP Medals are the kind of medals that will provide the player the most experience of all medals. There are three types of Exp medals: Power, Speed and Magic, each with his respective character from the series: Huey for Power Exp Medals, Louie for Speed Exp Medals, and Dewey for Magic Exp Medals. These medals can not be equipped and can only be sold or used to level up Attack medals. There is also a neutral type of experience medals who will give the player some experience and a Skill when fused with an Attack Medal, the character from the series in this medal is Scrooge

Boost Medals are usually used to increase the strength, defense and special attack of the player medals. These medals can be categorized as: Chip and Dale medals that will increase the medal Strenght and Defense respectively, Magic Mirror medals that will add 1% to the medal Special Attack Bonus percentage, Mickey and Brooms medal which will add a Orb to the Special Attack Bonus or Roll/Re-Roll if all the 5 orbs are illuminated, and Broom Servant(Enchanted Brooms) medal which the only use is to be fused with Fantasia Mickey medals to create Mickey and Brooms medals. Some of these medals can be fused to create stronger versions of themselves.

Cost Medals (or Cid medals) are medals that were created to decrease the Cost limit of 6 star medals. This medals can be fused to form stacks that will decrease 5 or 10 points of cost depending on the medal stack.

Evolve medals are medals used on the evolution process of the Attack Medals. There are 8 types of Evolution medals: Cheshire Cat medal is used to evolve 1 star medals into 2 star medal, Merlin medal is used to evolve 2 star medals into 3 star medal, Fairy Godmother medal is used to evolve 3 star medals into 4 star medal, Yen Sid medal is used to evolve 4 star medals into 5 star medal, Fantasia Mickey medal is used to evolve 5 star medals into 6 star medal, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather are the type specific medals (Power, Speed, and Magic respectively), those medals are used to evolve medals with the same type and amount of stars.

Munny Medals (or Moogle medals) have the main purpose of being sold for huge amounts of munny.

The standard medals that the game was released with are called Upright medals and only depict the heroes and supporting characters with a bright grey and silver color, or a bright yellow and gold color scheme, while the Reversed medals only show the villains and enemies in a dark blue and purple color scheme.
