The '''first volume''' of the [[Kingdom Hearts II (manga)|''Kingdom Hearts II'' manga]] was originally published in 2007 by Tokyopop. The series was later picked up by Yen Press not long after, releasing the first volume in 2013. The first volume of the Yen Press release details the complete story of [[Roxas]], [[Sora]]'s awakening, and the events at [[Beast's Castle]]. The first Tokyopop volume begins with Roxas's story and ends just after the completion of the [[Seven Wonders|Seven Wonders of Twilight Town]].
 
Both publishers share the same front cover image: Roxas and a sleeping Sora floating before a scene similar to what occurs in Roxas's [[Dive to the Heart]].
