Destiny Islands Logo KH.png

You wake up on a sunny beach overlooking a vast ocean: the Destiny Islands, your home world. You'll also meet your two best friends: Riku and Kairi.

Your weapon
You won't be able to use the weapon you chose anymore. Instead, you are now wielding a wooden sword, a toy weapon perfectly suited for playing and sparring.

Collecting supplies

Once you regain control, talk to Kairi and she'll give you a list of items to collect to build your raft. The items she requires are:

  • 2 Logs
  • 1 Cloth
  • 1 Rope

These items can be found lying around the island. You can ask Kairi for hints where to find them, but it reduces the reward you obtain at the end.

Walk along the beach and you'll find the first Icon Material KH.pngLog lying there. Walk over it to pick it up. The second Icon Material KH.pngLog can be found on the smaller island. To reach this island you can enter the wooden shack (which also contains a Save Point) and exit out the back or jump on top of the wooden shack, and cross the bridge to the island. Another option is to swim around the small island and climb the stairs on the back end.

Back on the main island, head to the big tree in the center. On the left side is a set of stairs. Get up the stairs and follow the wooden boards and ladder to zigzag your way to the top. At the top is a small room with the Icon Material KH.pngCloth hanging on the wall. Walk up to it to obtain it.

To the left of the stairs leading up the big tree is a ladder leading to a wooden platform which you might remember from the previous world. In the corner is the Icon Material KH.pngRope. Once you've obtained all four items, you can return to Kairi to receive your reward and advance the story. However, you can also take some time to fight against the other islanders.

A good place to train
You can battle as many times as you like. Although the EXP obtained from winning isn't a lot, you can get a lot more by deflecting attacks, making these fights a good way to gain some levels.

Sparring session

If you talk to Tidus, Selphie, Wakka, or Riku, you can choose to fight them. It's a sparring match, so don't worry about dying. Although it is completely optional, it is a good way to get some EXP.

Other Emblem.pngTidus can be found on the wooden platform where you find the Rope (and where you answered his question in the Dive to the Heart), Other Emblem.pngSelphie can be found on the dock, and Other Emblem.pngWakka can be found on the beach.

Once you have defeated all three of them, talking to either of the three gives you the option to fight them all at once.

Tidus
Tidus KH.png
HP 60 EXP 2
Attacks
  • Swing Down Attack
  • Shake Off Attack
  • Front Air Attack
  • Back Air Attack
Strategy
Tidus uses a wooden pole as weapon, making him rely on close combat attacks.

His attacks consist of swinging his weapon, and somersaulting while swinging his weapon. All attacks can be deflected for Tech points, or avoided by keeping your distance. Deflecting his attacks leaves him open for a combo.

Selphie
Selphie KH.png
HP 45 EXP 1
Attacks
  • Moving Swing Attack
  • Jump Attack
  • Shake Off Attack
Strategy
Selphie uses a jump rope as weapon, giving her more reach than Tidus.

All attacks can be deflected for Tech points, or avoided by keeping your distance. Occasionally, she will trip while trying to attack, leaving her open to attacks.

Wakka
Wakka KH.png
HP 75 EXP 1
Attacks
  • Spin Attack
  • Ball
  • High Speed Ball
Strategy
Wakka uses a beach ball as a weapon, allowing him to attack from far away.

His main attack is throwing the ball at you, which you can knock back by hitting it, earning you a Tech Point in the process. If you're locked on to him, balls you hit back have a high chance of hitting him, dealing a little damage and stunning him, leaving him open for attacks.

Occasionally, he'll jump in the air before throwing the ball. This attack is both faster and more powerful, but can still be knocked back with good timing.

If you get too close to Wakka, he'll perform a close range spin attack.

Tidus & Selphie & Wakka
Tidus KH.pngSelphie KH.pngWakka KH.png
Strategy
The easiest strategy is to focus on one target at a time. Wakka's attacks can easily be dodged from a distance, so he can be saved for last. Tidus is very relentless in his attacks, so it's a good idea to focus on him first. Try to dodge the others while dealing with your target. Once one of them falls, the battle will be much easier.

Another strategy is to lock on to either Tidus or Selphie, and deflect Wakka's ball to hit and stun them, giving you a little time to focus on attacking the other.

Every time you beat the three, you'll obtain a Potion.

Other Emblem.pngRiku can be found on the small island. As part of Sora and Riku's rivalry, they're keeping score on who has the most amount of wins. Keep in mind that this number does not have any effect on the rest of the game. Be careful when fighting Riku, as falling of the small island counts as a loss for Sora. Riku grants 5 EXP when defeated, and some of his attacks can be deflected to earn Tech Points. Additionally, defeating Riku rewards you with a Icon Potion KH.pngPotion every time.

Riku
Riku (Battle) KH.png
HP 90 EXP 5
Attacks
  • Thrust
  • Spinning Art
  • Continuous Art
  • Damage Counter
  • Guard Counter
Strategy
Riku is stronger than Tidus, Selphie, and Wakka, and has more attacks as well.

Besides attacking with his sword, Riku will also jump over Sora, or guard against his attacks. When he guards an attack, Riku may perform a counterattack. Riku often taunts Sora, but don't try to attack him as he just guards.

The key to this battle is Riku's Damage Counter. After every 4 hits, Riku will fall on his back, and regain his footing with a powerful kick. This can be difficult to dodge when performing a combo, so time it wisely to be able to avoid it, either by landing a combo finish as the fourth hit, or using a single hit without continuing the combo. When he gets low on HP, he starts using Damage Counter more often, but he should be down in a couple of hits at that point anyway.

Hi-Potion
Icon Potion KH.png
Restores 60 HP of one character. Can be equipped by party members.

Once you're done sparring, talk to Kairi. She'll reward you with a Icon Potion KH.pngHi-Potion, Icon Potion KH.pngPotion, or nothing, depending on the amount of hints you needed. She'll ask you if you want to call it a day. You can only fight Riku on this day, so unless you want to fight him again, agree to go home.

Scavenging for food

After a cutscene, you'll arrive on the island the following day. You can now enter the door Kairi blocked before to reach the Cove. Once there, talk to Riku to pick a name for your raft. Riku challenged you to a race along the Cove. The goal is to reach the tree with the star on top and get back. Start by walking along the wooden platforms, but be careful as one of the platforms will fall down if you step on it. When you make it across, you can climb the tower and use the zipline to get ahead of Riku. Jump off the platform, run up the ramp, and jump on the plant-covered rocks to reach the star tree. Make sure you touch it, and the star starts to glow before heading back. You can jump across the trees to reach the area with the zipline tower again and head back across the wooden platforms, or drop to the ground and head back along the beach and water. If you win, you'll obtain a Icon Material KH.pngPretty Stone, a pretty worthloss item that can be sold for some Munny later on. Sora and Riku continue to keep score with the race, and you can race again by talking to Riku.

Pretty Stone
Icon Material KH.png
A beautiful stone that glistens in the sun. It has little value.

After the race, head to the far side of the Cove, where Kairi waits on the raft. She'll ask you to gather some provisions. The items she requires are:

  • 1 Seagull Egg
  • 3 Mushrooms
  • 2 Coconuts
  • 3 Fish

She'll also give you an Icon Material KH.pngEmpty Bottle, which needs to be filled with Drinking Water.

Icon Material KH.pngCoconuts can be obtained by hitting the trees at the Cove or on the little island. When you hit a tree, either a brown or yellow coconut will fall down. Keep hitting the trees until it drops a yellow coconut, and walk over it to collect it. Next to the raft is a rock blocking a hole in the wall. Push the rock to reveal a Icon Material KH.pngMushroom. A second Icon Material KH.pngMushroom can be found between the plants next to the zipline tower. If you pick up the crate near the zipline tower and place it (not throw it) next to the rock wall, you can jump on top of it to reach a hole with a treasure chest containing a Icon Accessory KH.pngProtect Chain! There are two places where you can gather the Icon Material KH.pngDrinking Water: from a small stream under the wooden platforms at the Cove, or from the waterfall near the Seaside Shack.

DEF +1

Back at the Seashore, you can find Icon Material KH.pngFish swimming in the ocean near the docks. Lock-on to see where they swim and swim towards them to pick them up. For the Icon Material KH.pngSeagull Egg, head to the top exit of the Seaside Shack, and climb the thin tree. Once you reach the top, jump on top of the tree with the egg on it to collect it. Finally, head into the opening next to the waterfall to reach the Secret Place, where you can find the last Icon Material KH.pngMushroom, which also triggers a cutscene.

Once you've collected everything, go back to Kairi and talk to her twice. The first time you talk to her, she'll show you the charm she is making. She'll once again reward you with a Icon Potion KH.pngHi-Potion, Icon Potion KH.pngPotion, or nothing, depending on the amount of hints you needed. This time, make sure you are prepared when she asks if you want to call it a day. If you still want to fight Tidus, Selphie, or Wakka, or explore the island, do it now. Otherwise, you can continue.
