Image caption[edit]

The description appears to coincide with the generic usage of the ability. Is there a particular reason it is worded as "when Ventus", giving the impression that it is only true for Ventus?"We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 02:32, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Because the image is of Ventus and Ventus is the only one who can use the command. Until there is an image from KH3D that shows the attack looks different, this differentiates it from Sora/Riku's version. - Challenge Sigil KHD.pngEternal Nothingness XIIIChallenge Sigil KHD.png 02:39, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
^. Ventus is the only one who can use it in BBS, but Sora and Riku can use it in 3D. We just don't have a gif of it yet. Keyblade KHREC.png~D3xus 03:05, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
More my concern is -- the image implies that the depiction is only true for Ventus, while the lede uses the same description and applies it to all users. Which is true?"We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 14:18, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

The point is, Ventus is the only one who can use Spark Raid in BBS. In case the animation is slightly different in KH3D (such as when Sora and Riku throw the Keyblade), that leaves room to say "When Sora and Riku use Strike Raid..."; otherwise, we imply the move is exactly the same when executed by all characters. - Challenge Sigil KHD.pngEternal Nothingness XIIIChallenge Sigil KHD.png 14:21, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

The image doesn't make that distinction, and I'm not sure it's an important distinction to make. The way it's currently phrased, it implies that the description following is only true for Ventus -- however, the lede implies the same (bar possibly "wrapped in white light") is true for Sora and Riku as well. Your analysis doesn't seem to make sense unless we can't know if the attack is depicted similarly in KH3D -- but not only is it possible to know that, the article makes an implicit claim along those lines.
In other words -- yes, using "the user" makes that implication, and we must confirm it is true before posting. However, using "Ventus" also makes an implication, which we must also confirm -- meaning that we should make sure to check all the facts before tossing up the captions.
If the issue is simply that the caption-poster wasn't sure about KH3D and didn't have time to check, then in my own opinion the caption should probably have been marked with something like "<!--Check whether this applies to KH3D as well-->. It's the same reason that "X uses Y in Z" is not only non-informative but slightly anti-informative -- it has the false implication that X and Z are important qualifiers for the depiction given. That's why more generic language like "the user" should be, I feel, preferred, because it makes it clear what actually is an important qualifier for the depiction given. For example, Holy. Its depictions in KH2 truly did depend on who was using it and in which game, so it would be totally appropriate to say "when Mickey uses it in KH2" or "when Minnie uses it in KH2". The point is to not only be technically correct, but also communicate the accurate interpretation to the reader.
Anyway...to put aside the more generic case and focus on this issue specifically, http://youtu.be/jdVba5jMi0Y depicts Spark Raid identically to Ventus's use, meaning it should be fine to rephrase the caption with "the user". Agreed? Honestly, given this, I'm not sure whether we need a gif from KH3D. Do we have anything in the site policies or consensus dictating that ability articles must have images from each game, even if the depictions are identical? This also applies to Holy's KHX image and Thunder's Rec image; after all, we do have Galleries if we absolutely must upload redundant images."We're werewolves, not swearwolves."
