Inspired by the unnamed prince from {{w|Charles Perrault}}'s ''{{w|Cinderella|Cendrillon}}'' Prince Charming first appeared in the 1950 film ''{{w|Cinderella (1950 film)|Cinderella}}'', voiced by William Phipps (though his singing voice is done by {{w|Mike Douglas}}). In that film, he only had a minor role, appearing only at the ball scene and the film's end. At the ball, he appears to be bored with having to meet every single maiden in the kingdom since his father forced him to. Once he lays eyes on Cinderella, he rushes to her and they start dancing. As they dance, they sing "So This is Love," until Cinderella is forced to leave at midnight, leaving one of her glass slippers behind. The next day, Prince Charming leads a hunt through the kingdom to find the slipper's owner, declaring that whoever it fits shall be his bride. Eventually, he reunites with Cinderella, marrying her and living happily ever after. Prince Charming also appears in the film's two sequels: ''{{w|Cinderella II: Dreams Come True}}'' and ''{{w|Cinderella III: A Twist in Time}}'', the latter of which he has a prominent role.
