The '''Mushroom XIII''' are a group of [[Emblem Heartless]] that appears in ''[[Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix]]''. All thirteen Heartless that make up the group wear [[black coat]]s and, like other Mushroom Heartless, must be satisfied in a special mini-game in order to be defeated. As [[Sora]] completes the challenges issued by the Mushroom XIII, his results are recorded in [[Jiminy's Journal]].

==Prizes==
When defeated, each of the Mushroom XIII drops [[Tranquility]] materials. The six even-numbered Mushroom Heartless drop Shields for [[Goofy]] to wield, while six of the seven odd-numbered Mushroom Heartless drop Staves that can be wielded by [[Donald Duck]]. Fulfilling the highest requirements for odd-numbered and even-numbered Mushroom Heartless unlocks the [[Premium Mushroom]] and [[Ultimate Mushroom]], respectively. When the thirteenth Heartless has been satisfied, Sora obtains the [[Proof of Peace]] and the [[Winner's Proof]] Keyblade.

For the most part, each Mushroom is physically identical. The Mushroom Heartless all sport the same spherical, pitch-black heads and glowing, yellow eyes. They all wear black coats reminiscent of those worn by the members of Organization XIII; these coats are adorned with similar zippers, pull-strings, and hoods, although the hoods resemble mushroom caps and have twin angular, black spirals decorating them. The Heartless emblem appears on the front of each of the Mushroom XIII.

Only two differences exist between the Mushroom XIII: the Heartless are all different sizes, and they all sport different numbers on their backs. The Roman numerals on the backs of the Mushroom XIII are silver and range from I to XIII. These numbers denote the rank of a particular Mushroom Heartless. The sizes of the Mushroom XIII vary greatly; No. 5 is the largest Mushroom Heartless, while No. 8 is the smallest, being roughly half as tall as Sora.

The Mushroom XIII's collective name refers to its members' mushroom-like shape and resemblance to Organization XIII.

No. 1 will continuously attempt to use [[Reversal]] to get behind Sora, but this will allow Sora to use his own "Reversal" and "[[Quick Slide]]" reaction commands. Once both commands expire, No. 1 will dash at Sora, knocking him back. If Sora can get behind the Mushroom with either Reversal or Quick Slide, the Mushroom will become confused and drop its guard. The key to defeating it is to wait past Reversal for the more effective Quick Slide, which instantly makes the Mushroom open to damage—it is also possible to make the Mushroom vulnerable using Reversal, but requires at least two uses and often sends Sora in the wrong direction, negating its effect. The window on Quick Slide is very small, and Sora can only deal nine hits at a time, so it is recommended to use Wisdom Form or Final Form in order to deal them as quickly as possible.

Like Xemnas, this Heartless has the "Reversal" reaction, and like the Memory's Contortion battle, the key to dealing damage and avoiding being stunned is to use good timing with the reactions instead of mashing them as soon as possible. The key to defeating No. 7 is by using long-range attacks. Wisdom Form works well, though Sora will have to keep gliding away from No. 7. Alternatively, one can use Limit Form's Sonic Blade, Strike Raid and Ragnarok combos to keep it at bay. Using Donald's Fantasia or Flare Force allows for easy damage while also keeping Sora invincible, allowing him to attack in conjunction. However, the most effective method is to use Reflega while in Final Form, although Thundaga can also work when used in tandem with Thunder Boost + the Photon Debugger (especially when properly unleashed during a Reflega damage blast for combined combo damage). One way to defeat the challenge is to equip Berserk Charge and remove all [[MP Haste]]-type abilities, use Cure to empty the MP Gauge, then repeatedly hit the Heartless with Horizontal Slash or Master Form attacks<!--is there an ability for the basic slash?-->. If MP refills before the desired hit count has been reached, use Trinity Limit to deal the final few hits. The [[Fenrir]] Keyblade is the best for this fight, as it has the longest reach of any Keyblade in the game.

However, the difficulty of this mushroom comes from the fact that roughly every 15-to-30 hits, as well as upon reaching 50 hits, it will be launched away from Sora forcing him to have to move after it even if a combo finisher doesn't connect on it (unlike the balloon during the Grandstander minigame). Because of this and the shape of the room being awkward at best, making use of Master Form to juggle the mushroom continuously can be difficult as it may force Sora to glide away from it as the mushroom is being air combo'ed, and there is also a chance it may fly out of range of Horizontal Slash; both these scenarios can also be true if both Sora and the mushroom contact the invisible ceiling of the room.

An alternate way of doing this is to equip as much [[Combo Plus]]es and [[Finishing Plus]]es as possible, activate Wisdom Form, and then pelt the mushroom with Wisdom Shot combos. After a Wisdom Shot combo finisher, cast one or two Thundaga finishers to finish the combo. Equipping [[Magic Lock-On]] makes this easier due to it automatically locking on to the Mushroom and increasing Thundaga's range. While Berserk Charge is also recommended for this strategy, the challenge becomes significantly easier with no need to cast spells if one can juggle the mushroom into any corner of the room (around any of the trees), where Sora can simply just shoot away from the proper position/distance to rack up hits without any extra movement.

It is similar to the Overtake Reaction Command in [[Axel]]'s boss fight on the 6th Day of the Prologue. Its small size could be a reference to Axel's waning loyalty to the group. It must also be pulled out of the ground to attack it, similar to the Assassin Nobodies.

This can be accomplished by attacking with [[Berserk Charge]] (either through the copy Sora learns or through the [[Fatal Crest]] Keyblade) and [[Horizontal Slash]] equipped and all [[MP Haste]]-type abilities removed, a combination which can land up to 99 hits for an easy S rank.

However, the player should be sure to unleash the Horizontal Slashes at a low-enough aerial height; too high overhead will likely cause any of them to whiff and thus have a high chance to fail the streak.

The Mushroom's spinning, or dancing, is a reference to Demyx's association with music and control of [[Dancer]] Nobodies. It is also the location where the Melodious Nocturne met his end.

When attacking it, it is recommended to equip Hero's Crest to double up on Air Combo Boost, and to remove Aerial Finish and Magnet Burst so that the Finishing Plus abilities allow Sora to consecutively chain his faster standard air combo finishers, albeit there is a chance that depending on positioning and angling, that one of them may whiff. The damage will be enough to cut down on enough time to possibly S rank the encounter in at least 3 proper guesses, depending on how much raw power Sora possesses at his current level.

The best way to defeat it is by using Wisdom Form and equipping as much Finishing Pluses as possible to take advantage of its burst-fire combo finisher. Sora can also use Wisdom Form combined with Berserk Charge, making sure to empty the MP Gauge immediately before starting the battle in order to use Berserk as soon as possible. Alternatively Sora can equip as much [[Negative Combo]]s as possible and pelt the mushroom with only Wisdom Shot combo finishers.

However, it's apparent that the mushroom will periodically jump about as it moves around, which will likely mess up Sora's shots even if he's locked-on as some of the Wisdom Shots may end up curving below or away during any of the mushroom's jump arcs. This can mainly occur if Sora is within a close-enough range as it jumps towards him or jumps towards the side, but not when jumping away. Sora must also not move too far back as the Wisdom Shots have limited range and will dissipate before contacting the target; the key is to keep a proper distance so Sora can land as much shots as possible within the time frame if aiming for an S rank and being able to predict its jump path to land the maximum amount of shots by moving Sora around properly.

It's possible though, to have enough MP leftover and to revert back just in time to immediately execute Trinity Limit to stop the timer to also deal the final amount of hits, but this requires fast reflexes and pause scumming; even then there's a chance the final Trinity Limit hit might not rack up any extra hits at all while Donald and Goofy's commands do not reduce the mushroom's counter whatsoever (only Sora's command does).

The hit counter resembles the one [[Marluxia]] uses against Sora in his Absent Silhouette battle, and the mushroom's appearance within the Timeless River in general likely alludes to Marluxia's role in tampering with Sora's past memories in ''[[Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories]]''.

'''No. 12''' appears at [[The Old Mansion]]. Sora must defeat 40 or more clones before time runs out. However, unlike No. 6, they appear by themselves in rapid succession. A good way to defeat No. 12 is to use Wisdom Form; normal attacks or finisher strings are both capable of completing the challenge, either using Berserk Charge or the Fatal Crest, or un-equipping all Combo Plus abilities, equipping Finishing Plus and Negative Combo, and using Fenrir to fire continuous finisher bursts. Proper control of the camera helps greatly in completing this challenge, as the clones can appear among and on top of the pillars on the mansion grounds where they may not seen easily and Wisdom Form's shots will not auto-aim toward them. Avoid locking onto the clones and sweep the camera around to keep more of the area in view and see where the clones are appearing, then move in to fire at them.

Though if you prefer to lock-on to each clone, it's wise to ensure that Berserk Charge is equipped. Furthermore, whether you decide to lock-on or not, you can choose to instead deplete your MP through usage of chaining Magnet/Magnega with both Magic Lock-On and as many Finishing Plus Abilities as possible equipped. This way, you can easily target any nearby clones while also depleting MP to reach MP Charge; Finishing Plus ensures the Magnet spells can properly chain into each other without much delay. DO NOT USE Thunder/Thundaga since the clones are immune to it.

After defeating Xemnas, each time Sora enters the Great Maw, the other twelve Mushrooms will appear before him. A second later, all Mushrooms whose challenges he has yet to complete will vanish, while those remaining will jump for joy. If all twelve have been appeased, a beam of light will appear, and approaching it will give the Reaction Command "Look Up". Doing so will reveal No. 13, who descends from above directly before Sora. After the cutscene, the Reaction Command "Ready, Go!" appears. Activating the command will result in No. 13 giving Sora the Winner's Proof Keyblade and the Proof of Peace. After that, the thirteen mushrooms ascend into the sky together; while the other twelve are still available to be challenged, No. 13 will never appear again.

Its non-hostility compared to the other twelve references [[Roxas]] as being unusual compared to the rest of the Organization. Also, the way it appears is a possible reference to Roxas's element of light.
