The Mandrake is an Unversed that appears in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
The Mandrake is a small, plant-like Unversed appearing in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. At first, the Mandrake is partially buried in the ground, shooting leaf-blades at the player. However, once approached, it jumps out of the ground and hovers with its leaves while expelling a poisonous pollen. This stops once it reaches the ground, where it is relatively harmless until approached, where it can ram onto you, causing confusion. It resembles many of the plant-like Heartless in behavior and appearance (e.g. Creeper Plant, Fire Plant, ect.).

Normally, Mandrakes hide in the ground and attack from afar with their Leaf Cutters--and that's when they're still playing nice. If you get too close, they'll leap out of the ground and try to poison you, or else confuse you with the pollen they spew into the air as they charge.

Design
Design
The Mandrake is a small Unversed with dark green skin, wide hips, and short legs. It has green and light green highlights on its body, and it lacks arms. The Mandrake has a spherical, white head that is partially surrounded by a dark green "collar," and its eyes are red and set in a sorrowful expression. A red marking between the Mandrake's eyes resembles a mouth. The Mandrake's most prominent feature is the three white, leaflike blades atop its head. These blades end in pale green, arrowhead-like tips.

The Mandrake’s most prominent features are the three white, leaf-like blades on its head. These blades end in pale green, arrowhead tips that are vaguely reminiscent of the spikes on the Nobody symbol.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, the Mandrake receives a palette swap that gives it an orange body with yellow highlights. The leaflike blades on its head are changed to a light shade of yellow-green.
Strategy
A Mandrake is an easy opponent. While halfway buried, it shoots leaf blades which can be deflected back with Guard for damage, or dodged by jumping. Once approached, It leaps out of the ground and flies around dispelling poisonous pollen, at which time it's best to wait until it lands. Once on the ground, it attempts to ram players, causing confusion status if successful. Its tackles can be guarded, leaving it open to damage from Revenge Stamp or Barrier Cracker.

The Mandrake's name is derived from that of a Mandrake in the Final Fantasy series, as well as the mythical Mandragora.

From a distance, Mandrakes launch sharp leaves at their opponents which can be deflected back at them to deal damage or dodged by jumping. When approached, these Unversed leap out of the ground and hover in midair, spewing poisonous pollen. It is best to wait for this attack to conclude before countering. Otherwise, one risks being poisoned. One can be confused if a Mandrake's Panic Attack makes contact, but if it is successfully blocked, the Unversed will be left open to damage from Counter Hammer, Counter Rush, or Counter Blast.
