Before the Age of Fairytales
Before the Age of Fairytales
Long ago, there was an endless war fought by the physical manifestations of seven light and thirteen darknesses. Eventually, the darknesses discarded their physical forms to become a single entity, but its will could not be maintained. In order to expand and propagate their numbers, Darkness corrupted people's hearts and created the first Pureblood Heartless. The Master of Masters and other Keyblade wielders begin to fight against the Heartless.

The Age of Fairytales
The Age of Fairytales
The Master trained six apprentices of his own, Ira, Aced, Invi, Gula, Ava and Luxu. Through the power of his Gazing Eye, the Master could see into the future, and with this knowledge he created the Book of Prophecies and gave his apprentices a copy of the book. Upon reading it they were horrified by the last entry about the world's end in Darkness, and realized the significance of the roles the Master gave them: Ira as the leader; Aced supporting Ira; Invi as the mediator; Gula to discover the traitor; and Ava to create another group of devoid unions called the Dandelions. Luxu, who was not given a copy of the book, was tasked with guarding the Black Box, taking the No Name Keyblade to record and watch everything unfold between the others, and passing it along to his eventual students.

Before he disappeared the Master created the first Spirit Dream Eater Chirithy to help in the Foretellers endeavors with the warning that if a wielder's heart is corrupted by darkness or disappears, so will Chirithy. When the day came for the Foretellers to take their roles they created their own unique unions and filled their ranks with Keyblade wielders. One of those wielders, Player, met a boy with ever growing curiosity named Ephemer who wondered about their world and the two become friends. Overtime darkness crept its way into the world, causing a rift between the Foretellers and drawing their unions into fighting. Meanwhile, Player told Ephemer about the dream they had about them and decide to investigate the Clock Tower together, but was mysteriously stood up by and forced to continue alone.

Ephemer's curiosity about the Keyblade War was proved justified, and he tried to warn Player through another Keyblade wielder named Skuld. The two began to search for Ephemer before meeting Master Ava, who informed them that Ephemer is with the Dandelions. She extended an invitation to them with Skuld accepting and the indecisive Player deciding to not accept and abandon the other wielders. Unfortunately, Player was drawn into the fight by the Nightmare Chirithy who claims that it was responsible for the turmoil and had been sowing seeds of darkness in the unions. After being defeated after combining with the Darklings it cryptically says they will meet in another dream.

Disheartened, Player ends up fighting in the war against all the Foretellers and countless wielders until they are the last survivor. Stranded alone in the wasteland now known as the Keyblade Graveyard, Player’s Chirithy, Skuld, and Ephemer come to them, and the five leave for the new world.

Ventus's Surprising Past, the Missing Union Leader, and Darkness' Intentions
After the war the duty of preserving light is passed down to Ephemer, Skuld and their friends Brain, Lauriam and Ventus. They begin their new status as Union Leaders by combining unions and created the new spirit dream eaters called pets that would help the wielders forget the past (save for the Union Leaders). While reliving old along with new adventures the wielder's peace was broken when Darkness found them again but this time with ghostly apparitions appearing everywhere and the Darklings still pursuing them. Soon Lauriam noticed his younger sister Strelitzia was missing. With Brain's intellect the Union Leaders discovered that they swapped the real world for a data version of Daybreak Town and the glitches were a result of another world trying to connect, along with the Darklings, aware of the future ahead Brain promised to free them. In pursuing the creatures into the new world Ephemer and Player learned that the Darklings like Lauriam were looking for someone too.

In pursuing the creatures into the new world Ephemer and Player learned that the Darklings like Lauriam were looking for someone too.

Lauriam, continued to search for his sister with the help of Elrena and it led him to his comrades. Explaining the situation they knew that Strelitzia was apart of their group but was hesitant to join and had a great admiration for "someone" that she tried to save them from the war. Matching Player's description, Ephemer takes Lauriam to meet them but learned they didn't know her either. As the mystery unravels Brain consults the book of prophecies and finds a note inside with a startling discovery he summons Ephemer to inform him that Strelitzia was the missing Union Leader. With that in mind Brain figured out that there is an imposter in their ranks and when Ventus and Skuld arrive he asks them to remember their encounter with Master Ava. Hearing that Ventus's encounter was different Brain reveals to him the shocking truth that he is the imposter. Knowing this wasn't Ava's plan and that he didn't know the Union Leaders suspected that Darkness may have done this and by pushing their comrade to remember Ventus recalls meeting Master Ava inside an abandoned building and left together heading towards the Clock Tower but not much else except for Strelitzia dying with that they resolve to help him and tell Lauriam what happened to his sister.

Meanwhile unknown to them, Maleficent came into their world led by the Darkness entity and despite Lauriam's efforts she escaped in one of the lifeboat pods unknowingly beginning the world's destruction. As the others returned to the tower the strain of remembering puts Ventus to sleep while Brain, Ephemer and Skuld tried to figure out Darkness' next move aware that it was here but didn't know the entity's motive. Through his dreams Ventus remembered what really happened, it was Darkness that struck her down not him and Ventus woke up distraught that he couldn't save her. Then, the other's conversation was misunderstood by a vengeful Lauriam who demanded to know what happened to Strelitzia but before his friends could explain Ventus reveals that he was responsible for her demise despite the other's protest but the grief and anger knocked him unconscious again revealing the true culprit to the group.

The group discovered why Darkness targeted Strelitzia as it played on Ven's hidden desire for power but knowing of their comrade's nature knew otherwise. But Darkness believed gaining what was more important than how, realizing that his sister was gone for nothing Lauriam tried to avenge her but was easily defeated. The reason why Darkness hid inside Ventus was because it was written in the book by the Master discovering that it and the Master were friends. Discussing further the Union Leaders learn that darkness was always around and the only reason they couldn't be seen was because they lacked acknowledgement until now hearing enough Brain and the others decide to fight against the entity.

After the destruction, the friends are separated Ephemer waking up in Daybreak Town left underwater, Lauriam in a field of flowers, Elrena unconscious on a stormy mountain, Ventus the same in the Badlands but was found by an unknown person leaving Skuld missing. However the dream eater gives it's friend a choice to sleep or reincarnate as a new heart. Glimpsing into the future Player decided to reincarnate saying goodnight to their Chirithy. Luxu is seen walking through the Keyblade Graveyard with the Black Box and No Name Keyblade revealing Brain's face.

Meanwhile Brain wakes in an unknown town and meets Sigurd who explains that he is the only one that made it to this time and before leaving to his group's headquarters; Sigurd takes Brain to the fountain square to explain that he is in Scala ad Caelum and the mysterious person shows him a statue of the town's founder and first Keyblade master. Arriving Brain was happy to see that it was his old friend Ephemer.
