Enemy Cards have to be placed in the deck like other Cards, but they appear in a separate menu and each card can only be activated once per battle. Only one Enemy Card effect can be active at a time; activating a second Enemy Card will replace the effect of the first. The passive effects will naturally end after a certain number of reloads, attacks, or other criteria. For effects that last for a certain number of reloads, the duration will count down after using the [[Reload Card]], when using an [[Item Card]], when entering [[Dark Mode]], or when hit by Marluxia's Whirlwind to the Void sleight.

In ''[[Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories]]'', the effect of the [[Darkball]] Enemy Card is changed due to the removal of [[Link Mode]]. As such, the Darkball Card becomes unavailable for Sora. Due to the addition of a battle with [[Zexion]], his Enemy Card is added for both Sora and Riku. Seven additional Enemy Cards based on the remaining members of [[Organization XIII]] are available for Sora as an extra [[Room of Rewards]] reward for having a completed ''[[Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix]]'' save file for the Japanese version, after completing the game for the North American version, or for completing ''[[Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days]]'' in the ''[[Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX]]'' version.

Bosses that use regular Cards to attack have access to Enemy Cards with the same or similar passive effects as when used by Sora or Riku, with the exception of Cloud and the first battle against Axel. The Enemy Cards do not grant the bosses elemental resistances or weaknesses, or vulnerability to stun from certain elements, but Sora or Riku can benefit from those effects when they use [[Mimic]]. [[Dispel]] and Mimic are the only two Enemy Card abilities that will only work if the opponent has their own Enemy Card in play.

Other enemies use [[Battle Card#Enemies|unique Battle Cards]], which in appearance look identical to the Enemy Cards they can drop.

==Obtainment==
[[Sora]] has a chance of obtaining the Enemy Card of the last enemy defeated in battle, instead of a [[Map Card]]. The probability of an enemy dropping its card is multiplied by 2.5 in the Teeming Darkness, Almighty Darkness, or Looming Darkness rooms. This does not affect the [[Black Fungus]] and [[White Mushroom]], who only appear in their own designated room.

Most bosses drop their Enemy Card when defeated for the final time, with the exception of [[Marluxia]], whose Enemy Card is obtained after the first battle, and [[Vexen]], [[Riku Replica]], and [[Ansem, Seeker of Darkness]] in ''Reverse/Rebirth'', whose Enemy Cards are not available for Riku. The boss Enemy Cards exclusive to ''Reverse/Rebirth'' can be found as [[Bounties]] in [[Castle Oblivion]]{{KHCoM}} or various worlds{{ReCoM}} in ''Sora's Story'', but only by having a completed save file of the former, and after Marluxia had been defeated the first time. [[Riku]] has access to a different Enemy Card in each world, although he can keep any Enemy Cards obtained from bosses. Enemy Cards dropped by bosses are not counted for the total number of battle cards that Sora can hold, and they cannot be discarded or sold.
