Cuisine is based on consuming five types of dishes, categorized in {{nihongo|'''Starter'''|オードブル|Ōdoburu|lit. "Hors d'oeuvre"}}, {{nihongo|'''Soup'''|スープ|Sūpu}}, {{nihongo|'''Fish'''|魚料理|Gyo Ryōri|lit. "Fish Dish"}}, {{nihongo|'''Meat'''|肉料理|Niku Ryōri|lit. "Meat Dish"}} and {{nihongo|'''Dessert'''|デザート|Dezāto}}. Each dish is has its own set of stat increases, including Strength, Magic, Defense, max HP and max MP.

In the "Cuisine" section of the menu, the player can create a meal by selecting up to five dishes to consume at once (one per category) to boost the entire party's stats for a limited time. The player can also use the "Chef's Choice" option to automatically create a meal with up to five dishes; these will be randomly selected from the player's inventory. Additionally, after creating and consuming a meal, the player can save it a list of favorites to recreate it later.

Consuming a meal grants stat boosts to the entire party, equal to the sum of individual boosts from all selected dishes. A meal consisting of a dish from every category also grants a Full Course Bonus. The meal's stats are further increased if it has the [[Hearty Meal]] Full Course Bonus attached. Stats boosts and Full Course Bonuses will last for a set duration, which is extended by 50% if the Full Course Bonus [[Cuisine Extender]] is generated by the meal. If a meal's bonuses are active when the party changes to a different playable character, such as [[Riku]] or [[Aqua]], the meal's bonuses will continue to apply for that party.

Cooking the meals is unlocked after completing [[Twilight Town]], and requires [[ingredients]] in addition to completing a [[mini-game]] with at least a "Good" rating. Ending the Mini-game with an "Excellent" rating creates a "plus" version of a dish that gives greater stat bonuses and can be sold for a higher price.

"Full-course Dinner"}} is an extra, temporary ability granted by consuming a full meal in the Cuisine menu — starter, soup, fish dish, meat dish, and dessert — in addition to the stat bonuses normally awarded by eating Food. They are generated randomly from a set, which depends on the number of "plus" dishes included in the meal. Each additional plus dish adds more abilities to the options, as well as increasing the duration of the ability awarded. Note that the Full Course Bonus cannot be influenced by any specific foods - it purely depends on the amount of plus dishes, whichever they happen to be.

If the meal is constructed by the player, the Bonus will not be displayed until the meal is consumed, but if the player selects "Chef's Choice" to allow [[Little Chef]] to construct the meal, the Bonus can be previewed before consuming the meal. While the resulting Bonus is generally randomized, a specific Bonus can be locked in by saving the meal and its effects to the player's list of favorites. ==Strategy==
Among Soup, Meat Dishes, and Desserts, there is one food in each that has the highest stats in their entire food category: the Cold Tomato Soup+, Stuffed Quail+, and Tarte aux Fruits+, respectively. Starters and Fish Dishes instead incorporate more trade-offs in available stats.

The maximum possible stats that can be gained from food are as follows, however it is not possible to maximize every stat simultaneously in a single full-course meal.
