==Design==
A Black Fungus has a spherical, pitch black head with two glowing yellow, beady eyes. It wears a round, purple cap on its head that sports two black, angular spirals on its front. It also seems to wear a navy blue smock that completely covers its legs and thin, fingerless arms. Its Heartless emblem is present on the front of this smock.

The Black Fungus's name references its dark coloration, as well as ''{{w|Fungus|Fungi}}'', a biological kingdom that contains organisms such as mushrooms and truffles.

==Strategy==

Unlike the other Mushroom Heartless, it is hostile. Despite its low HP, it takes 1 HP of damage from all attacks but Gravity, and can become invulnerable for a short time to defend itself (where it performs a biceps-flex and coat itself in a white coloration) and release poisonous gases, making it very hard to defeat. If Sora finishes them off with a combo finish, they have a chance of dropping a [[Mystery Goo]] and a [[Mystery Mold]].

In the case they're faced in the Pegasus or Hades Cups, Sora should cast Gravity spells on them, if obtained, making sure to finish them off quickly.

Black Fungus are present on the field as soon as the area is entered, unlike other Heartless, indicating to the player their presence. The following lists their locations.

As with ''Kingdom Hearts'', the Black Fungus will periodically turn itself invincible. The cards it uses are numbered 7, so make sure your cards are valued high enough. It is recommended to always attack a Black Fungus in the overworld before initiating a fight, in order to prevent them from turning themselves invincible shortly.

Defeating Black Fungi yields a Calm Bounty card (unless in Traverse Town), if not its own Enemy Card, in Sora's Story, or a Roulette Room card in ''Reverse/Rebirth''{{ReCoM}}, so exhausting Black Room cards is a rather easy way to stock up on those cards. 

In ''Sora's Story'', using the [[Mega Flare]] or [[Blizzaga]] [[Sleight]] on it while in Traverse Town or in the 2nd Floor world is a good strategy to finish it off quickly, making it less time-consuming to earn its Enemy Card while farming for Calm Bounties for the latter world. In the case a few of them turns invincible, it might be recommended to either run away, finish the vulnerable ones, or wait until the invulnerable ones lose their invincibility. It also is a good opponent to use in easily obtaining a [[Pluto card]]{{ReCoM}} to help complete [[Jiminy's Journal]], as it does not attack that often and is easy to escape from. Due to its resistance to Warp, it isn't recommended to use a deck built around it to try obtaining its Enemy Card or to utilize any strategy revolving around Warp Break.
