Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.png Hey, guys! It's that time of year, the Wiki's Annual End-of-Year Event. Chainoffire and I have been planning a Mirage Arena-style tournament, which can be seen here. Basically, we have a competition in various categories to determine the best of the best in each, according to the fandom. It's a great ending to the year, a celebration of the 15th Anniversary, and a lead into Kingdom Hearts III. We're planning to start this off next week (that way, it's a 13-week event, the final week being the last week of the year), with a nomination-style window for a couple of the larger pool categories (Disney Characters, Heartless, etc.), and most of the brackets would start either mid-October or November. We could even open the rest of this week and next week to other ideas for categories. Finally, the tournament would be duplicated on The Keyhole, and we'd count the votes on both sites at the end of each battle to determine the winner. We'd like to know what you all think, especially since we plan to start next week. Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.png

While this idea sounds fun, I have some concerns:
  • It's similar to the Mirage Arena, and while this isn't a problem, the MA hasn't been getting a lot of votes lately, so I'm not sure this will.
  • Spreading it out over 13 weeks is fitting for a KH event, but it may cause people to lose interest after a while.
  • Comparing to previous EoYEs, it doesn't seem to require much activity. One EoYE I personally really enjoyed was when we had to figure out which trivia belonged to which users. For me, the fun in that was that we had to discuss and do research to find the correct answers. In this event, you only need to vote, which doesn't really sound very exciting to me.

That being said, I have no problem against doing this event, I'm just not sure if it will be a success. If we're doing this, we might want to put the MA on break, so we don't have two tournaments running at the same time. I actually have an idea of my own, though. Something I've been wanting to do for a while.

Basically, it's a quiz with questions about all aspects of the series (games, manga, novels, TCG, etc.), similar to the trivia contests held on Bulbapedia every year. A small group of editors, maybe 2 or 3, will choose the questions, with the answers being on either of the wiki's. The questions should be tricky of course, so the participants will have to search the wiki's to find the answers. We could even promote the event on facebook and twitter (and maybe on KH13, since the Unchained wiki is part of KH13), and let all people join, even if they don't have accounts. Not only would this increase the traffic to the wiki's, but people might actually start using them if they haven't already. The only problem is that, unlike Bulbapedia, we can't give away any real prizes, they actually give out games to the winners, so I'm not sure if it will be very appealing to people. If we're doing this, we should start early, though, so we have enough time to sync the information between wiki's. And we need to keep an eye on the edits to see if people aren't changing the pages that contain the answers to change it so that they're correct.

So what do you think? We can always use the other event to count down to the release of KH3, or something.
