Contrary to his journal entry in ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Cloud never made it into SOLDIER in ''Final Fantasy VII'', but instead suffered trauma during the {{ff|Nibelheim Incident}} that caused him to adopt memories from {{ff|Zack Fair}}, a friend of his who was an actual SOLDIER 1st Class. He and his allies seek to defeat Sephiroth, a legendary SOLDIER ~~who had burned~~ down Nibelheim, killing many people including Tifa's father.
