Some time later, Lea is watching the horizon when Kairi greets him, revealing her new clothes and haircut. Kairi confides in Lea about her desire to free Naminé, a sentiment he shares in regards to Roxas. He reveals he met [[Ven]] years ago and had nearly forgotten about him until meeting Roxas, who was identical to him; he never told Roxas, fearing he would vanish too. Lea does worry if Ven will remember him.
As Lea continues his training, he is joined by Kairi, who is also beginning to undergo training in the art of the Keyblade. During their time together, Lea constantly apologizes to Kairi for kidnapping her back when he was Axel. Initially apprehensive about him, Kairi warms up to Lea during their training, seeing him as someone she cannot bring herself to hate when she learns that he also has a friend that he is trying to save. Back at Master Yen Sid's Tower, Lea tries to make sense of his allies' connections with each other. When Lea asks where he fits in, pointing out that Ven and Roxas are identical, Ven notices Lea, surprising the latter that he remembers their friendship. As the group decides their next course of action to save the missing members, Lea pledges to get Roxas back.

Some time later, the pair receive new outfits from Yen Sid, but unlike Kairi, Lea decides to stick to his black coat in hopes it will make him more memorable. The pair concur that Naminé and Roxas deserve their own lives, and Lea confides in her about his old friend, [[Ventus]], and how when he later met Ventus's doppelgänger, Roxas, he decided not to inform the boy out of fears that he would also vanish. Lea is comforted by Kairi, who assures him that Ventus will remember him.
 
When the guardians assemble at the Mysterious Tower after Aqua and Ventus are retrieved, Yen Sid introduces Lea and Kairi to the rescued wielders. Lea comments on how confusing the relationships between each of them are and how hard this will be to explain to them, but Ventus surprises him by remembering him from their meeting in Radiant Garden. As the group plan out how to retrieve their remaining friends, Lea pledges to get Roxas back.

Later, Lea sits on the clock tower, eating sea-salt ice cream while holding two others. Saïx appears, asking why Lea bought three; he swipes one. They reminisce about being [[Ansem the Wise]]'s apprentices to rescue a girl they befriended in the castle, but ahe disappeared. Saïx accuses Lea of giving up, though Lea argues he helped Saïx climb the Organization's ranks to get closer to Xemnas to find her. Though Aaïx believes their friend is gone forever, Lea declares he will get all their friends back, including Saïx. Lea vows to beat Saïx in the final battle before the latter disappears.
Lea spends the evening at the Clock Tower, eating his own ice cream while carrying two extra bars for his lost friends. As he rues his lack of progress on rescuing Roxas, Saïx appears in peace and points out that Lea has taken Twilight Town as his new home, and cannot remember who the third bar is for. The pair reminisce on how they apprenticed themselves to Ansem the Wise in order to rescue their friend, [[Subject X]], and ended up being pulled into the Organization. When Saïx expresses his resignation toward retrieving their lost friends, Lea counters that he'll not only retrieve them, but Isa as well, and Saïx takes his leave after noting that Lea has given up the teardrop tattoos that were meant to keep him from crying.


The next day, Lea and the other guardians of light travel to the [[Keyblade Graveyard]]. A [[Demon Tide]] is unleashed and it swallows the group. After Sora manages to rescue everyone using the [[power of waking]], they return to the graveyard. When they are surrounded by a swarm of Heartless once more, Master Yen Sid appears and opens a path to the Organization.

Although they fend off an immense swarm of Heartless, they are overpowered by [[Terra-Xehanort]] and a [[Demon Tide]]—Lea is knocked out protecting Kairi from Terra-Xehanort before being extinguished by the Demon Tide. Sora manages to retrieve Lea's heart from [[San Fransokyo]] using the power of waking, which causes a loop to occur.{{?}}<!--cite to nomura--> This time, Terra-Xehanort and the Demon Tide are fended off with help from the [[Lingering Will]] and the spirits of the [[Dandelion]]s, followed by Yen Sid walling off the Heartless summoned by [[Dark Riku]], allowing Lea and the others to proceed towards the waiting Organization.


Lea and Kairi pair up to fight Saïx and a [[Xion|hooded figure]] wielding a Keyblade. Aora joins in but Saïx overpowers them. Xemnas appears and condemns Lea for becoming a traitor. He orders the figure to kill Lea, but Sora stops the figure, whom he calls "Xion". Xemnas kicks Xion, revealing her face as her hood falls, triggering Lea's memories. As Xemnas prepares to destroy Xion, Lea attempts to stop him, but is helpless. A heart escapes Sora and Roxas reappears, using a replica as his vessel, and saves his friends, much to Lea's joy.

At the Skein of Severance, Lea and Kairi pair up to fight Saïx and Xion but are overpowered by Saïx shortly after Sora catches up to them. Xemnas appears and condemns Lea as a traitor to the Organization, shatters his Keyblade, and prepares to dispatch him, but is stopped by Xion. Xemnas commands her to finish the execution, but when Roxas's heart stirs within Sora and calls out to Xion, both of their hearts return to their designated Replicas, forcing Xemnas to kidnap Kairi and flee. Lea is left to recover as Sora, Roxas, and Xion subdue Saïx, who admits that he was jealous of Axel's friendship with Roxas and Xion. Lea and Saïx affirm they will reconcile, as Isa, and Lea urges Sora to go after Kairi while he and his friends catch up.

Lea, Roxas, and Xion show up just after Master Xehanort claims Kingdom Hearts. With his revived Keyblade, Lea joins the other guardians in holding Kingdom Hearts shut while simultaneously trapping Xehanort within his own portal.
Xemnas kidnaps Kairi and leaves the group to fight the berserk Saïx. Lea, given his injuries, is forced to stand back, with Roxas and Xion aiding Sora. When the battle concludes, Lea rushes over to Saïx, who says he sacrificed everything to find their friend. However, when Lea befriended Roxas and Xion, it enraged Saïx and he lost all sense of purpose. Lea insists he didn't forget them. Saïx admits he was jealous before fading away. Lea tells Sora to go after Kairi; he, Roxas and Xion laugh before embracing and crying, finally reunited.


Lea, Roxas and Xion join the others in using their Keyblades on Master Xehanort and helping close [[Kingdom Hearts]]. After Master Xehanort is defeated, Lea and the others appear alongside Sora, Donald, and Goofy in [[Scala ad Caelum]]. After Xehanort and [[Master Eraqus]] fade into the light together, Sora uses Lea and the others' light with the χ-blade to purify and close Kingdom Hearts before being transported back to the Keyblade Graveyard. Then Lea and the others watch Sora leave a solo journey to bring back the missing Kairi.
After Sora, Donald, and Goofy defeat Xehanort within the portal, Lea and the others follow after them and share their light with Sora so that he can close Kingdom Hearts using the χ-blade. The group is then ejected back to the Keyblade Graveyard, where Sora leaves them to retrieve Kairi.

Shortly after Kairi is recovered, Lea, now wearing his new clothes, sits with Roxas, Xion, and the revived Isa on the clock tower in Twilight Town to share ice cream in celebration. They are joined by Hayner, Pence, and Olette, but Riku shortly arrives in the [[Highwind]]. The group is taken to another celebration at Destiny Islands with the other former Guardians of Light, where Lea plays frisbee on the beach with Isa and Ventus. Then they look on as Kairi makes a last contact with Sora's heart, before he fades away.
Having recovered his friends, Lea finally changes into his new clothes, and celebrates at the Clock Tower alongside Roxas, Xion, Isa, Hayner, Pence, and Olette. Riku soon arrives on the [[Highwind]] to inform them that Kairi has been rescued and bring them to a celebration at Destiny Islands, where Lea plays frisbee with Isa and Ventus. They look on as Kairi makes a last contact with Sora's heart, before he fades away.
