Riku and King Mickey are first seen in the Dark World looking for Aqua. During their search, Riku recalls how he was first scared of the darkness but he now feels ready to face the darkness and save Aqua and also King Mickey is with him. The duo reaches the Dark Margin where Aqua was last seen but when they arrive, they are ambushed by a group of Shadows who form a Demon Tower. The two fight the Demon Tower but Mickey gets sucked in and Riku gets consumed and nearly drowns until he hears a voice. Riku then awakes on the beach where he finds that his Keyblade was destroyed from the battle. Mickey suggests they go back to Yen Sid but Riku insists in staying and trying to save Aqua from the Dark World, but Mickey assures him that she's strong and that if Sora can escape from dark clutches, so can Aqua. Before leaving, Riku leaves his Keyblade on the beach for his other self.

Riku and Mickey return to Yen Sid's tower to report their status to Yen Sid as well as Sora, Donald and Goofy. Riku thinks that Aqua is the key to finding the 3 missing Keyblade wielders and Yen Sid tells the duo that Aqua visited many worlds during her journey and suggest following her footsteps to find some clues. Yen Sid also gives Riku and Mickey new Keyblades as well as new clothes to deliver to Kairi and Lea in the secret forest. With their mission received, Riku and King Mickey begin their journey.

At the end, Sora and Riku toss their Keyblades together to act as a super-damaging magnet. It should be noted, though, that despite the fact that Riku is a wielder of the Keyblade, he can't use any of Sora's [[keychains]] while he is in the party. Also, Riku is one of the three only characters shown being able to summon [[Synch Blade|more than one Keyblade]] at once, the other two being Roxas and [[Sora]].

In ''[[Kingdom Hearts III]]'', Way to the Dawn is snapped in half by a [[Demon Tower]] in the [[Realm of Darkness]]. Riku leaves it behind for the [[Riku Replica|other him]], and goes to ask [[Yen Sid]] to help him get a new Keyblade to replace it. This Keyblade, [[Braveheart]], resembles a modern car key.
