To save the worlds from being consumed by the Heartless, Mickey ventures to the [[Realm of Darkness]] to find the [[Kingdom Key D|Keyblade of the Realm of Darkness]] needed to seal the Door to Darkness. Coincidentally, he finds [[Aqua]] floating unconsciously in the Realm of Darkness. After regaining ground, they are attacked by a swarm of Heartless, but managed to defeat them. Mickey is surprised that he has found Aqua in the Realm of Darkness, within ten years of searching her, and learns about her sacrifice to save [[Terra-Xehanort]] from sinking into darkness has led to her being stuck there. Eventually, the pair arrive at the wreckage of [[Destiny Islands]] and are intercepted by a massive swarm of Heartless at an entrance to a cave. After defeating them, they enter the cave and discover the Kingdom Key D. Despite Mickey's acquisition of the Kingdom Key, they find Riku being chased by a swarm of Heartless. By the time the Final Keyhole was opened, Mickey finds Riku, whose body had been stolen by [[Ansem, Seeker of Darkness]], and quickly becomes allies with him. After the defeat of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, he helps Sora to seal Kingdom Hearts to prevent the Heartless from escaping through it. Although Sora is reluctant to leave Mickey and Riku trapped within the Realm of Darkness, Mickey assures them that there will always be a door to the light, and thanks Donald and Goofy for their loyalty.
