:Yes, if I recall correctly, that's correct. Yen Sid and Xehanort went their separate ways, and the one who remained in the LoD would be tasked with guarding it. Aqua could have had the choice to go her own way or become Successor, but technically, she's done both. LoD fell to darkness ''before'' she could bring back Ventus and resume her task of guarding it, which meant her task of Successor involved changing the world to what she wanted it to be, and in her case, it would be to keep Ven safe.
