| As chief of the other gorillas, Kerchack takes extremely careful care in what interacts with the group to ensure that the gorillas as a whole are kept safe. In lieu with his duty, he rejects anything and anyone which may be a negative influence or endangerment to the rest of the gorillas and usually acts in a manner worthy of someone with great responsibility. Despite his seemingly nonchalant and ignoring attitude of all Tarzan tries to introduce to him, he cares about him very much, and accepts him as part of the gorilla family.

| ==Origin==

| After Kara and Kerchak's baby is killed by Sabor, Kara introduces the recently-orphaned Tarzan to Kerchak in the hopes of replacing their son. Unable to accept Tarzan as his true son, he allows him to become part of the gorilla family, despite the dangers he brings to all the gorillas. Always turning a blind eye to the boy's endeavors in hopes of persuading Kerchak to truly accept him, Kerchak is killed by Clayton and is succeeded by his newly-accepted son, Tarzan.
