Isn't it speculation that he saw Kairi? I always assumed he was talking about seeing Xion during the preceding scene with her and Riku, when we see him leave in a Corridor of Darkness. He just wasn't sure if it really ''was'' her or not because 1. it felt like a dream and 2. Xion was missing, and he thought maybe he just wanted her to be there.
