|ansemreports1=It came. We saw. They conquered. After what seems like an eternity, fans have finally seen progress regarding the creation of the upcoming release ''Kingdom Hearts III''! During June's E3 2015 gaming convention, fans were treated to a special trailer and news from series' creator [[Tetsuya Nomura]]. Wow. What else is there to say other than "WOW!"?

The new trailer was packed full of exciting information! Before I continue, I cannot stress how crucial it is for you to watch this trailer. If you haven't watched it, '''watch it now!''' If you've already seen it, '''watch it again!'''

Let that sink in for a moment...

Now let me point out a few things:

*Magic. Returning to Sora's arsenal is [[Fire]] and [[Blizzard]]. [[Aero]] is either making a comeback as well, or we have a new type of tornado spell. This new magic attack shown involves Sora summoning a brief gust of wind and releasing it around him. Unlike with aero, this attack follows a more offensive type of spell than defensive.

*Continuing the elemental trend, a new type of water enemy has appeared in a world based on Disney's ''Hercules'', a film that has been featured in ''Kingdom Hearts'' [[Olympus Coliseum|many times before]]. Said enemies appear encased in orbs of water that they are capable of projecting as a directional attack.

*In an interview with Japanese magazine ''Dengeki'', Nomura explained two of the new gameplay features shown. The first is called "Attraction Flow"; this etymology lines up with the previewed examples of explosive tea cup and roller coaster attacks, which are modeled on attractions from Disney theme parks. The second feature pertains to how [[Sora]] moves. Using a system Nomura describes as "free running", Sora's actions now follow an automatic response, meaning his movement will instantly react accordingly to hills, cliffs, and platforms.

*There is a cutscene between a young [[Xehanort]] and a young [[Eraqus]]. In the aforementioned interview, Nomura stated that this cutscene will be the opening cutscene for ''Kingdom Hearts III''. Not much was said about this footage, other than it will be longer than what is shown and that the youths' age reflects how far back the story will take place, as well as how it will tie into ''Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ'' (more on that game later).

*New duds! Sora's new look seems to be a hybrid between his ''Kingdom Hearts II'' and ''Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance'' clothes. In a different interview, Nomura also shared that, along with Sora's new attire, we might see a return of [[Drive Form|form changes]]. [[File:Young Xehanort KHIII.png|right|200px]]

*Online play? Maybe... but the game's crew cannot say anything for certain at the moment.

*How about the game environment? Nomura says that, unlike the previous games, ''Kingdom Hearts III'' will feature open-ended worlds, with no transitions between stages. If you look closely, you can also spot Sora affecting the environment in the trailer; in summoning a tornado-like spell, Sora not only inflicts damage upon the enemies nearby, but also sways the surrounding blades of grass. Wow.

*Throughout the gameplay section of the trailer, it is revealed that Sora can transform his Keyblade into a gun and even a cannon!

*Did you spot the two new Keyblades? While neither of the weapons has been officially named, it does seem as though one of them is sporting a ''Hercules'' theme, as seen in the tip of the Keyblade's blade, where Zeus is shown gripping a thunderbolt. This Keyblade has been shown to transform into a chariot that is pulled along by a Pegasus. The other Keyblade follows a simple design, with a noticeable five-pointed star in the center of the blade's tip. *A new world has been revealed! Get ready to explore the realms of Disney's ''Tangled''!

*As with ''Kingdom Hearts'' and ''Kingdom Hearts II'', the Disney worlds Sora visits in ''Kingdom Hearts III'' will give him a temporarily ally. On that note, it has also been revealed that summons will be available as well.

*It's confirmed that there are to be no quick time events [QTE] in ''Kingdom Hearts III'', meaning [[Reaction Commands]] are O-U-T out.

*In development news, gameplay and world assignments have been decided. With the foundational work finished, all that remains is to start plugging in the details of the game. Nomura has also stated in an [http://www.gameblog.fr/news/51502-final-fantasy-vii-remake-tetuysa-nomura-nous-donne-plus-d-in interview] that ''Kingdom Hearts III'' is further along in development than the E3-featured ''Final Fantasy VII'' remake, which is still in the "beginning stages of development."

|ansemreports2=Only halfway through the year and we lose another component of the series. Sir Christopher Lee passed away on June 11th at the age of 93 due to respiratory problems and heart failure.

Known by movie fans as Count Dooku or Dracula, ''Kingdom Hearts'' fans will remember Lee for voicing the enigmatic researcher [[Ansem the Wise]], aka DiZ. It is with great sadness that we hear of Lee's passing.

Excitingly, for the year 2015, the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series' composition made it onto this list at number [http://halloffame.classicfm.com/2015/chart/position/30/ thirty]!

While this isn't the first time video game music has made it onto Classic FM's list, it is important to note just what an impact this has. This achievement symbolizes how popular video game music is becoming.  Perhaps the greatest result of being honored with such a high place is that video game music is being respected as formal/classical music, and not just unstructured "noise".

As for the woman responsible for the beautiful music of ''Kingdom Hearts'', the city of lights has an exciting event planned for this holiday season! Set as a continuation of an orchestral game music series, a concert dedicated to the works of {{Keyhole|Yoko Shimomura}}, the beloved ''Kingdom Hearts'' composer, will be presented on November 7th at Paris' Salle Cortot venue.

A trailer was shown at E3, composed of many gameplay slides and a few story scenes- one of which hints that there is a traitor among the [[Foreteller]]s! This new adaptation will feature similar plot and gameplay elements to the Japan-exclusive web browser game ''Kingdom Hearts χ'', which is set during the events of the [[Keyblade War]] and has been running since mid 2013. ''Kingdom Hearts χ'' hosts simple 2D graphics and allows players to take on various challenges and stories as their own, original Keyblade wielding character. 
[[File:Kingdom Hearts chi Logo KHX.png|300px|right]]For this international release, however, the game will be renamed as "''Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ''" and will be released for iOS and Android platforms. This will be the first game in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series to be released for smartphones.

Like ''Kingdom Hearts χ'', ''Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ'' will be free to play, but will contain in-app purchases. The game will be released first in Japan, but is set for an international release... eventually. The [https://twitter.com/kingdomhearts official Kingdom Hearts twitter account] announced that ''Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s release was set at E3... for North America and Japan. As quoted from the tweet, "availability elsewhere is still TBC".

For ''Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ'', the card-based battle system of ''Kingdom Hearts χ'' will be replaced with medals equipped by the player avatars. For the international release, game servers will be split into different language-specific sections. There has not been much elsa information released regarding this game, but Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that several aspects of this game will point towards the events in ''Kingdom Hearts III''. 

On other ''Kingdom Hearts χ'', the most recent update to the online game added to [[Wonderland]]'s story, and introduced [[Tifa|a]] [[Cloud|few]] [[Leon|new]] cards.

Yen Press is continuing to pump out more [[Kingdom Hearts (series)|''Kingdom Hearts'' series]] literature, following the release of the [[Kingdom Hearts novels|''Kingdom Hearts'' novel]] back in March. Continuing that trend, the ''[[Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories]]'' novel is set to be released this September.

This novel was initially released in Japan in three volumes- two volumes for [[Sora]]'s story and one for [[Riku]]'s. Compiling all three original volumes into one book, this novel will have the expansive size of 600 pages. This release will make an excellent addition to any ''Kingdom Hearts'' fan's collection, so don't miss it!

From [[Sora|<font color=#A394CB>Sora</font>]]'s buddy to [[Ansem|<font color=#A394CB>Ansem</font>]]'s chum, from a blindfold to a dark hold, [[Riku|<font color=#A394CB>Riku</font>]]'s been through a lot. He's a savvy [[Keyblade Master|<font color=#A394CB>Keyblade Master</font>]] now and that's all that matters! But Riku is more than just a keyblade wielding ex-vessel. Riku is a superhero. How much of superhero? Well, let's talk about how Riku sizes up to the popular comic book heroes of today. Let me tell you how everybody's favorite teenage darkness-lover fits in with the justice crusaders we know and love...

[[File:Riku_(Dark_Mode)_KH.png|thumb|left|A six-pack at the tender age of fifteen?|x200px]]First, let's examine the elements of an essential superhero factor: the "origin story". Riku's is a dark, broody tale that fits the anti-hero mold. His is a story of friendship, corruption, and betrayal.

Riku's often the superior in his friendship between Sora, but as is well established in the KH fan world, it's Sora and [[Kairi|<font color=#A394CB>Kairi</font>]] who are the couple. Unfortunately, Riku's lust for power and, most probably, Kairi's heart (excuse the pun) takes him down an evil route at the very beginning of the series. His actions trigger a journey that we get to watch unfold, as Riku is forced to recuperate from his choices in the following games. He's truly regretful for his actions and showcases almost-desperate determination to vanquish the darkness within him. I can imagine that being his drive to fight crime in the modern day; evil-stopping is solidarity for his reform and a promise to never deteriorate his character again.

You know what else is an important superhero factor? The costume. Look at Riku's costume! Every superhero needs a good suit. Riku is no stranger to spandex. If he lost the awkward skirt, Dark Mode would be the perfect costume for the darker side... except Riku isn't a villain. [[Vanitas|<font color=#A394CB>Vanitas</font>]] already has the villain look spot on. But, with a lighter color scheme and a more inspiring emblem, et voila! Riku has his super-suit. And maybe the regular dark mode suit Riku is something for an [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraman_(comics) <font color=#A394CB>alternate universe</font>] plotline?

Finally, we get to the big guns: Riku's powers and gadgets. How would they fit into the modern day superhero context?
*Graciously, the [[Way to Dawn|<font color=#A394CB>Way to Dawn</font>]] is one of the few Keyblades that resembles actual swords. You can bet bad guys would be taking Riku seriously when he's swinging that around.[[File:Reunion with Riku 02 KHRECOM.gif|thumb|So that's how superheroes suit up so quickly...]]
*Riku has an uncanny knack for sniffing out darkness, which may actually be useful in detecting deceit or evil intent.
*He can use magic! For a comic book explanation, Riku could be able to channel the unpredictable dark energy found in atoms into fireballs and barriers. He can even open Corridors of Darkness, ripping through time and space for quick travel. These powers actually fit in quite well with the supernatural, magic-y section of the DC Universe (Wonder Woman, Trigon etc.).
*Already agile and muscular, Riku is more than capable of climbing buildings and running across pipes. Parkour, an often used tool in the superhero toolkit, would be redundant for him, however, as Riku is able to glide.

Today I would like to focus on the events of the most recent ''[[Kingdom Hearts (series)|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts</font>]]'' cinematic movie, ''[[Kingdom Hearts Re:coded|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts Re:coded</font>]]'', as shown in ''[[Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX</font>]]''. More specifically, I want to look into the role that [[Data-Roxas|<font color=#472A72>Data-Roxas</font>]] and [[Data-Naminé|<font color=#472A72>Data-Naminé</font>]] had to play in the events towards the end of the movie. I will be attempting to illustrate the way in which the events in the data version of [[Castle Oblivion|<font color=#472A72>Castle Oblivion</font>]] relate to ''[[Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance</font>]]'', and the upcoming title, ''[[Kingdom Hearts III|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts III</font>]]''.

Now, I am aware that to many, many ''Kingdom Hearts'' fans across the world, ''Re:coded'' has always been a dark spot on the horizon. The reasons for this dislike are manyfold, but criticism is primarily related to the fact that ''Re:coded'' added very little to the storyline of the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series, and was thus described as "pointless". [[File:Magazine Issue 5 KeybladeMaster1.png|275px|left]]This, however, was changed significantly with the most recent cinematic. Though a tad long-winded at times, the latter part of the movie certainly makes up for any bad feelings that the first segments of the film muster up. To any of you reading this without having seen the movie, I would highly recommend sitting down with some popcorn and watching it before we continue.
 
Now, after the [[Datascape|<font color=#472A72>Datascape</font>]] has been cleared of bugs and glitches and it has been reset, [[Data-Riku|<font color=#472A72>Data-Riku</font>]], along with [[King Mickey|<font color=#472A72>Mickey</font>]] and company, notice the emergence of a new world which had previously been hidden to them. This new world is a data version of Castle Oblivion, which the team decide to enter, believing it to be the key to understanding the mysterious, cryptic message left in [[Jiminy's Journal|<font color=#472A72>Jiminy's Journal</font>]]: '''"Their hurting will be mended when you return to end it."'''. With guidance from Mickey, [[Data-Sora|<font color=#472A72>Data-Sora</font>]] is once again called upon to fulfill this task, and it is this that leads to the crux of my discussion.
 
During the events of ''[[Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance</font>]]'', in [[The World That Never Was|<font color=#472A72>The World That Never Was</font>]], [[Sora|<font color=#472A72>Sora</font>]] finds himself dreaming. Inside the dream, he encounters [[Xion|<font color=#472A72>Xion</font>]], marking her first appearance since ''[[Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days|<font color=#472A72>Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days</font>]]''. This provokes a reaction from the [[Roxas|<font color=#472A72>Roxas</font>]] within Sora, in the form of tears.

Moments later, Sora meets Roxas himself. An exchange occurs between them, which ends with the transfer of Roxas's painful memories into Sora. This, however, was in no way a coincidence; the events of ''Re:coded'' have already set the scene for this memory transfer perfectly. 

Data-Roxas appears before Data-Sora in the Castle Oblivion Datascape world, and begins to guide a confused Data-Sora through the floors. His role? To show Data-Sora the meaning of hurt and help him understand it. In doing this, Data-Roxas will know whether the real Sora is ready to take on board the painful memories which Roxas had accumulated within himself during his short life. But this is no easy process. Data-Roxas has to be <u>absolutely</u> certain that Sora is capable of retaining the memories that the real Roxas holds within him, without giving darkness a foothold in the [[Keyblade|<font color=#472A72>Keyblade</font>]] wielder's pure heart. The floors through which Data-Roxas guides Data-Sora hold illusions of characters which the real Sora knows well from his many journeys throughout the Kingdom Hearts universe. These characters are Sora's friends, whom he should remember in an instant!

Upon being questioned by Data-Roxas, Data-Sora finds himself unable to recall a single name from those that he had been talking to just moments before. Here, Data-Roxas acts as the antagonist, as he tries to impress on Data-Sora that the knowledge that his having forgotten the names of his friends will bring him hurt, which will in turn introduce darkness into his heart.
 
<br><b>{{Q|The sadness of knowing you forgot someone who matters to you.|Data-Roxas to Data-Sora}}</b><br>
 
There does, however, seem to be more to Data-Roxas' actions than just this "test". This whole sequence of events also seems to be a ploy to make someone else see and feel the pain that the non-Data Roxas has experienced. This is entirely understandable, as Roxas has lived through many sad and painful events. Perhaps Roxas, too, has the feeling that he has forgotten someone important to him (Xion).

At the end of this pivotal scene, Data-Roxas attacks Sora, wanting to show the Data version of his Somebody what "real hurt feels like". Data-Roxas loses the fight, at which time he taunts Sora, telling him to finish him off. Sora, however, explains that he had felt an "intense, sharp pain" from Data-Roxas, and stipulates that if carrying some hurt around inside him brings him closer to people, then that is a price that he is willing to pay. Data-Roxas, upon hearing Data-Sora's speech, finally relaxes and ceases to be the antagonist, signifying that Sora has "passed the test".

Data-Sora's willing acceptance of Sora is deemed proof that the real Sora will be able to take on-board Roxas's memories and the memory transfer, enacted in ''Dream Drop Distance'' can go ahead without issue.  But this was not the end of things. More scenes follow, in which Data-Sora and Mickey meet with [[Data-Naminé|<font color=#A394CB>Data-Naminé</font>]]. When reconstructing Sora's memories between ''[[Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories|<font color=#A394CB>Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories</font>]]'' and ''[[Kingdom Hearts II|<font color=#A394CB>Kingdom Hearts II</font>]]'', [[Naminé|<font color=#A394CB>Naminé</font>]] stumbled upon some memories hidden deep within Sora's heart which she discovered did not belong to Sora.

[[File:Magazine Issue 5 KeybladeMaster3.png|275px|right]]These special memories turn out to be the hidden keys to saving many people who had been thought lost, including Xion, Roxas, [[Terra|<font color=#A394CB>Terra</font>]], [[Aqua|<font color=#A394CB>Aqua</font>]], [[Ventus|<font color=#A394CB>Ventus</font>]], and even Naminé herself. As Mickey was present during this discussion, he was also made privy to the memories, so that he would be able to pass them on to the real Sora once outside the Datascape. When the time has come, Sora will need to call those memories to the surface, rescuing those lost souls.
 
This sequence of scenes brings to light much more than it appears to.  Combined with [[Ansem the Wise|<font color=#A394CB>Ansem the Wise's</font>]] speech at the end of ''Kingdom Hearts 3D'', we can most certainly assume that these events were hugely significant in the lead up to ''Kingdom Hearts III'', and perhaps even other future titles. We can potentially look forward to seeing some of the characters which many readers may associate themselves with back in the series in the future!

The Valley of Stone is an area filled with monoliths; on the floor and in the air, all with glowing edges. It's pretty, it's elegant, and it's littered with treasure chests. Most importantly, it's crawling with Heartless that release Drive Orbs! This place has loads of [[Emerald Blues]], [[Crimson Jazz]]es and [[Fortuneteller]]s, all of which drop Drive Orbs. Just be sure to heal regularly, because those Crimson Jazzes and Emerald Blues can be an absolute pain in the you-know-where.

Pretty much all of [[Agrabah]] has enemies that drop Drive Orbs, but I find this the best place in all of Agrabah to level up Master Form, because the Drive Orb dropping enemies appear consistently, and there isn't too long of a lapse of time between Heartless waves – you just need to stand at the right place to spawn them.

Just be sure you're having a relatively lucky run where all you encounter are Heartless. The reason I say this is because, if this is your second visit to the [[Beast's Castle]] or later, you are likely to run into [[Dragoon]] Nobodies as a result of [[Xaldin]]'s interference. 

[[File:Magazine Issue 5 GameTutorial3.png|left|250px]]Various Heartless in this world release Drive Orbs upon defeat –  Crimson Jazzes, [[Morning Star]]s, [[Gargoyle Knight]]s and Statues, and even [[Lance Soldier]]s. These Heartless appear almost everywhere in the Beast's Castle – in the main hall, in the East Wing, in the West Hall, in the West Wing... pretty much every conceivable area of Beast's Castle has enemies dropping Drive Orbs.

The best place to train in all of Beast's Castle is the Undercroft – you know, the place leading to the Dungeon where the [[Beast]]'s friends were all locked up. There are many Gargoyle Knights and [[Gargoyle Warrior]]s there, and all of them drop (you guessed it) Drive Orbs. Just be careful not to take too much damage, because you're going to be pretty much ambushed once you get in there. You'll be surrounded pretty easily.

In addition to all this, at the entrance to the West Hall, there are various suits of armour that drop Drive Orbs when you smash them to pieces.

The only place in all of the Beast's Castle that does not have enemies that drop Drive Orbs consistently is the Bridge, where Mushroom #3 appears. But even that enemy drops Drive Orbs if you fulfil its objective!

You're entering a warzone, so there will be ammunition and fireworks scattered everywhere. Destroying these will net you prizes. Some of these things, when destroyed, leave Drive Orbs! Be sure to never miss the ammo carts!

In the way of Heartless, there are a good number of them that drop Drive Orbs. Emerald Blues, [[Assault Rider]]s, [[Bolt Tower]]s, and [[Nightwalker]]s all drop Drive Orbs. As is the case with the previous two examples, however, the ones that release the best Drive Orb bonuses are also enemies that you need to be careful of; in this case, they are the Assault Riders.

As is the case with the Beast's Castle, be sure that the waves of enemies you are fighting are Heartless. Nobodies occasionally appear at the summit of Tung-Shao (the mountain where Shan-Yu was first spotted) due to [[Xigbar]]'s interference.

Finally, the ''Kingdom Hearts'' novels are being released in English! Naturally, I got the first one not long after its release. While ''Kingdom Hearts, the Novel'' is mostly the same as the game (which makes sense, since it is a novel based on the game), I felt there could have been extra content. For example, most of the dialogue is directly taken from the game. While this means that a lot of memorable quotes are present, it also makes conversations really predictable. At certain times, its like the author simply copied the game script. Not to mention the over-use of the phrase "to and fro". Also, the fighting scenes get pretty repetitive. It mostly follows the same pattern: [[Sora]] attacks with the [[Keyblade]], [[Donald]] casts a barrage of spells, [[Goofy]] attacks with his shield and hands out potions. 

Most novels describe what people or places look like when they first appear, so the reader can create an image in his/her head of what the subject looks like. In this novel, the amount of descriptions is varying. One time, it describes a character completely, from hairstyle to clothing, and another time it only says the character is "an old man". In fact, the novel never mentions that Donald is a duck, except for his name, the fact that he is wagging his tail when they first introduce him, him saying "Quack" a lot, and the assumption that everyone knows, or should know, who Donald Duck is.

[[Olympus Coliseum]], [[Halloween Town]], [[Atlantica]], and [[100 Acre Wood]] were all left out of the novel. That's 4 worlds! Not only is this disappointing, but it makes the scene where you first meet [[Maleficent]]'s council very weird, as they (once again) copied the exact conversation from the game. With [[Hades]], [[Oogie Boogie]], and [[Ursula]] missing, it's just a dialogue between [[Jafar]] and [[Hook]]. Surprisingly, [[Deep Jungle]] does appear in the novel, most likely because it teaches Sora the meaning of friendship. (You know, *&&X%. Friends here.)

Of course, the novel has good points, too. For example, they merged the reunion with [[Riku]] in [[Traverse Town]] with the [[Opposite Armor]] battle, which Riku helps Sora defeat. They also managed to add the encounter with the [[Game:Xemnas|Unknown]] into the story!

In all seriousness though, being a musician myself (read: singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist), I find a lot of joy in the various music pieces of this series. What's more, the music of the Kingdom Hearts games was what really drove me to write background music pieces of my own.

In translating {{KHWiki|User:Troisnyxetienne/Japan Expo 2012 Interview Translation|an interview with Yoko Shimomura}}, I learned of the anxiety the ''Kingdom Hearts'' composer experiences as she sits alone behind her computer screen, unsure what kind of reaction her songs will garner until she hears the love and positive feedback fans send her way. I found that Yoko's composition process was something I could relate to.

Though my appreciation for the plethora of ''Kingdom Hearts'' music is clear, I'll ultimately be narrowing my preferences down to a list of just five of my personal favourite tracks. For this top five list, several factors will be considered:

For this list, I am undertaking the arduous task of listening to EVERY piece of music from the ''Kingdom Hearts series'' during my free time – of which I have little these days. Of course, my results for this list will differ from the top five of others', which I accept and respect. It is also likely that with the release of future titles, my top five list is going to change, as Yoko Shimomura and her soundtracks are full of surprises.

As a final note, I want you to bear in mind that this article is going to be spoiler-heavy, because the description of each respective song will include the context in which it plays. 

So, without further ado:

<font size=5><center><font color=#841D63>Number Five</font><br><br>
The World of Dream Drops, ''Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance''</center></font><br>

There have been many world map themes, and nearly all of them have truly moved me. Most of them have given me surges of joy, so, in my mind, spotlighting a single world map theme was quite hard. It is especially hard when you have ''Precious Stars in the Sky'' from the first ''{{c|Kingdom Hearts|game}}'', and ''A Twinkle in the Sky'' from ''[[Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep]]'' to keep in mind; both pieces stick in your head and I am partial to both. I, however, eventually found a winner for the best world map theme: it is that of ''Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance''.

<font size=5><center><font color=#299ABC>Tonality</font></center></font>

There isn't much of a melody, but rather a harmonious ambience with (what sounds like) 
bass guitar, piano chords, pizzicato strings and everything else in between. There is a hint of electronica thrown in for flair, as in parts of the piece, I can hear synthesisers. Strings and piano have always been a powerful combination, and it is still powerful here.

This is actually the ''first ever'' world map theme from the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series to not have a well-defined melody until a good bit into the piece. And whatever melody there is, it follows the accompaniment, allowing other elements of the music to take centre stage and function as a whole. Everything about this piece works together; it is no longer a case of one instrument standing out from the rest anymore. This makes The World of Dream Drops quite pleasantly different.

The musically trained ear might also recognise VI – VII – I chord progressions ending the sequence. Shimomura has been known to use VI – VII – I progressions a number of times in the games' soundtrack (''Hau'oli, Hau'oli'', the field theme of [[Deep Space]], comes to mind when I talk about this progression). VI – VII – I is a progression used by ''a lot'' of composers, and can be cliché unless there is some sort of quality that changes that progression. Here, the overall magical feel of the piece makes this ending progression pleasant to my ears, and not just simply tolerable.

<font size=5><center><font color=#299ABC>Context</font></center></font>

The setting is simple; it's just a world map. The world map of ''Dream Drop Distance'' is considerably simpler than that of most other games, because there are no gummi ship mechanics and the map doesn't involve you flying to one world from another. You simply pick a world and dive.

I'm aware that this makes the setting relatively simple and, perhaps, lacklustre compared to a good many other world maps. And maybe the vast majority of people aren't going to stay on the world map for hours on end listening to this theme... unless the vast majority of ''Kingdom Hearts'' fans are actually the kind of music buffs who would stay on the world map for hours listening to the world map theme and I am just unaware of it. I mean, ''I've'' done this in a lot of other ''Kingdom Hearts'' games.

''The World of Dream Drops'', however, adds a specific magical quality to the map screen that otherwise wouldn't be there. Taking everything into context, Sora and Riku are not going through their ordinary journey, travelling from world to world  on a ship or by some other external means. They are diving into worlds by themselves; ''they themselves'' are undertaking a very magical act that perhaps no one else ever has.

<font size=5><center><font color=#299ABC>Expression</font></center></font>

As I mentioned before, every map theme gives me a sense of elation, a rush of joy as the piece progresses. ''The World of Dream Drops'' is no different. There is a sufficient variation in the music – there are high points and low points, points of lush orchestration and points of calm – that ensure I don't feel fed up after listening to this piece for hours on end. This is a reaction I didn't have with any other ''Kingdom Hearts'' map themes.

<font size=5><center><font color=#299ABC>Memorability</font></center></font>

If you're a lazy person, who listens to something on the simple basis that it sounds good, there are chances that you may remember this composition... or you ''may'' have forgotten it. We remember melodies far better than accompaniments, which is simply natural. I could see this piece as being forgettable in many minds.

If you are, however, a musician who plays by ear, what are the chances that you could perfectly play this piece, or arrange it by yourself within a matter of minutes? Extremely high. This chord sequence has been so stuck in my head, the piano parts have been so stuck in my head, that I believe that any attempt to arrange this piece live or impromptu, would go a great deal better than if I were to arrange, say, ''Precious Stars in the Sky'' or ''A Twinkle in the Sky'' under the same conditions.

|flickrushmailbaganswer1=I take it you're talking about the wiki version, and not the actual Keyholes featured in the [[Kingdom Hearts (series)|''Kingdom Hearts'' series]], so I'll gladly explain how it came about.

The Kingdom Hearts Wiki started off as one of many wikis hosted on a platform known as Wikia. Over the years, Wikia departed from its standard layouts and made many, MANY poor decisions, mainly disallowing the Monobook and Vector skins, and forcing a skin on everyone that jammed huge ads on pages that made the content area smaller, so they were padded out in an unprofessional manner. Quite frankly, we got sick of it. We didn't have the heart to delete our Wikia wiki, because
#Some of the old members were no longer online and it would have been unwise to delete the original domain
#Some people chose to remain on Wikia.
So a split came about: the Kingdom Hearts Wiki got its own domain name and address and what was left at Wikia was renamed the Keyhole.

|flickrushmailbaganswer2=I can name historical differences, but I doubt I can name new ones owing to my absence from the Keyhole. Kingdom Hearts Wiki needed a sense of semi-professionalism, as I mentioned above, with the skins, while the Keyhole was sort of remodelled into a fan site. And so its tagline for quite a while was "Ye Olde Kingdom Hearts Fansite". Right now, however, people tell me that the functions of the Kingdom Hearts Wiki and the Keyhole aren't too far removed from each other.

That being said, the Keyhole has to cater to Wikia specifications. You have fixed template limits on pages, for example. (I guess the more technical among us can fully list out the differences.) On our own domain, the Kingdom Hearts Wiki is free to add as much or as little template space as we need, and we have made many new ways of displaying stats, character, or weapon information, that we wouldn't have been able to do before. We've been breaking many moulds ever since... at least with the way our pages are displayed. Look at our character pages, for instance. A lot of them have tabs for galleries, quotes, battles etc. that Wikia would not be able to support.

There are missing descriptions, images, strategies, walkthrough videos, attack GIFs, userboxes, better templates to make... There are passages in need of better grammar and presentation! There are always going to be vandals to deal with! And, if [[Tetsuya Nomura]]'s indication that the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series will not end with ''[[Kingdom Hearts III]]'' is true, there is even more reason to contribute to the wiki! New games may spring up, new merchandise, new manga, new soundtracks. There are always pieces of the ''Kingdom Hearts'' universe that need to be strung together, and there are parts available for everyone to play.
